Welcome John, Panerai are a good place to start learning as they are in pricipal very simple watches, You will find lots or parts available round here.
"Broken staff" i assume that would be the balence staff, that may be expencive to get a new one if it is at all available, This is not one of the new FA Jones movements
A unitas reqs 1 1/2 turns of the screw to release the stem, molnija 2, i would turn it a half turn at a time trying to remove the stem gently every time, if you unscrew it completly then you will need to re-attach the arm that holds the stem in that sits on the dial side of the movement
The bracelet looks wrong and so does the logo, also for a 39mm AT the bezel looks a little wide, it looks more like a smaller one but then the date will be in the wrong place and the marker @3 should be smaller or missing totaly, with that marker and bezel i would say it looks more like the 42mm but then the logo is all wrong
Hmm, not sure what the original problem was but now it will be that the click spring may be missing or the click is in the wrong way, proberbly a very simple fix may need a new click spring if it pinged out, not hard to get hold of.
if that photo was taken after you took the back off it may just be that thew screw for the click is too tight as well
Looks very good Rob, does the green tint complement the black like we thought it should giving it a sort of iridecant look?
What i see now the the need to refinish the hour wheel, toubillion carriage and the screw heads
A couple from me as i sit waiting for a flight back home
My first hand made carbon fiber dial, unforunatly if was a bit to thick and only stayed on the watch about a week
This is how it looked after i added a SL dial from the bay with its big brother
rep and gen ingys under black light
One of my Schuhrens, this is without doupt the best lume i have ever had, it is better than seiko without a doupt
Another one
These were taken with a phone so no photography gigery pokery here
I have been after one of these for a while now, i know that there is a version with the correct date window and AR but not sure who has it yet, the silix version has the correct date window but not sure on the AR on that one.
I have been discussing this with a watch maker i know and i know the British horological institute is looking at this type of nano partical oil, the one question that keeps ocuring is how do you clean it off when the movement needs a service in the future, as it will even just to remove any oxidation caused by the air in the case.
I would not recomend using liqid wrench as even the basic unitas movement uses 3 differnt types of oils, there is no way that one can replace all three.
