Irony: Chinese Officials Attack Quality of Foreign Luxury Goods
offshore replied to jkerouac's topic in General Discussion
Do you think things are that much different in say downtown Guangzhou? Just don't know the Chinese wording for "whacked" or "sleeping with the fishes" O/S -
Maybe some are joking but others are serious? But then thats the internet for ya! @Fakey....Surely you of all people would understand...I thought at varying times in your colorful history you held the title of- "Thread crapper/poacher of the Year!" (See a smilie always makes any statement a bit of fun!) O/S

Ok, I received the die only units a couple of days ago, and have tested them on a rep and a gen. Fit and feel was good, and no sign of slipping. Here is a quick and dirty shot. In viewing the two dies, I still think the one supplied with the handle is a cleaner cut and maybe a better grade of material, but that is all pretty subjective. The new one looks good, works OK, and for someone not doing heaps of work with it, should have an item which lasts for years. We will be offering these at $20.00 plus postage. I have six in stock for immediate dispatch. Email me at watchbitz@bigpond.com, and advise your country for a post cost. Offshore

Happy Birthday to RedWatch and ASimpleFarmer!

Hope you had a great day, RW and ASF! All the best from sunny Oz. Offshore. -
Oh, all the forums do interact wonderfully well in digging out scammers, unfortunately at times we do suffer "collateral damage" as would appear to be the case here. However there will be an upside, as the others have been notified of this turn of events, and I expect you will be reinstated soon. (Please advise if member janos is your fathers log in) The other upside, is that there appears to be more information being distributed on this guy, and the net is closing. Lets hope the fish is snared this time. Offshore

Yes S, Good call. The old keyboard slot. I use that spot for my battery tester, demag and pulse meter on my "old" desk (Home) However as you can see from the pics, the shop is a work in progress, so I will throw out all the old evolved stuff, and start thinking again, as I get this desk operational. I have an Asus netbook, which could go to work.....now how do I find an internet connection? (Preferably someone elses ) O/S

Once the bezel is off, you will see the "click" mechanism. May be bent or broken. Getting the bezel off can be a challenge in itself. May be better to find a local repairer to look at it, if you haven't a lot of repair knowledge, you could do some damage trying to get that bezel off. O/S

@Red, I said earlier that I was using/testing, a new LED magnifying light. Here is a shot of how I have initially set it up to cater for the higher desk. As said the flexi arm just gives so much more versatility...the cantilever styles are an ongoing fight, but this thing is easily and precisely positioned. For those interested, I have set this up in a new shop I have built at our local markets. I was getting a bit long in the tooth to be loading/unloading heaps of stuff each week, and have desired a lockup shop for a while, So I leased some dirt, and $4k later and much blood sweat and tears, bingo, I had my shop! Still in the process of setup, lights, signwriting and some stock still to come, but hopefully this will be my happy watch home 2 days a week. Now where can I fit a computer so I can log in to RWG in the quiet times? Offshore

Gee thats looking nice red! Maybe could do with some different lighting ( and I have just the thing in mind for it- will talk to you about that in a week or two!) I have just built a new desk, and increased the height to 1m. Have found that my preferred magnification, the cantilever arm light, is no use with the new bench height, as you must work from above, and I am now at bench level. So I am playing with a new LED magnifier, which comes on a super flexible arm, and actually viewing through the mag with the light mounted at 90deg to normal. Its seems to be the answer. Obviously if you prefer a visor or a loupe, this isn't such a problem. Will post some photos of my new set up when I come back from the shop later. O/S

@Tressles, Have a look at the multi point tool, the same one we put into our tool kit. I think you will find this is an inexpensive solution, albeit you really should use this tool with a case holder. Offshore

I just have come in from a preview of footage of the new James Cameron 3D film, "Sanctum" It is still being filmed here on the Gold Coast....I was invited to spend some time comparing notes (as all good old time divers do) with the cast and crew, as I am one of the original cave divers in Australia. This film is the story of a Cave Diving expedition gone wrong, and bears more than a passing resemblance to an expedition in the early 80's, in which the director, was involved. Spent an amazing night..( its all filmed at night) The 3D is hugely impressive, and a major effort has been put into making a thriller as factual as is possible.I am sitting here now absolutely blown away by what I have just seen. A number of the actors, even some who had never dived before, did their own scenes. ( After much training of course) It is being filmed in a huge tank with multiple sets, next door to where I live on the Coast. So when it is released in the 2nd 1/2 of this year, I recommend most strongly, an early night at the flicks! This one is something very special. (Have also been given tickets to the Oz premiere, wherever, and whenever it is) Look for this at a theatre near you! O/S

Well I was member #7 on the original RWG, having migrated from TRC. I actually joined before it was opened and whilst under testing, and I think the 6 earlier members were all Blades colleagues. There were many hundreds of hours spent building that forum to the success it became, and then when Blade did his runner, it was all torn down in a matter of weeks. Pity the old database could not be resurrected. The 20 or 30 posters left in the anarchy the old site became, were more interested in destruction, than rehabilitation, however it was this forum that raised the funds to repay all the members. So we hardly remember the end with joy. Sometime later, after it crashed and burned, and we had offered the few remaining survivors shelter and a home here, the reincarnation then took place, and lately as all have said, the domain name was purchased at auction. So what is now calling itself RWG is actually the Mary Celeste version. I also did not saddle up for a watch, as frankly it didn't appeal much. Although it would be good in hindsight to have got one, although that also was a bit of a lottery! Knowing my luck, I would have received one with bad QC, and a DOA movement. And no one to call on for any recourse!! Good luck to those who have them, the one clever thing which was done in hindsight, was not to include the word "replica" in the design. It may be a word which comes back to bite hard in the future. Offshore

@Trailboss, The deep one goes to 20ATM dry. That is the air pressure job. The vacuum tester, which is really only a leak detector, only is good for about the same as a Bergeon, ie 6ATM. O/S

Head visor or eye loupe? What do you prefer?
offshore replied to URkuk's topic in General Discussion
IMO each has its own positives and drawbacks. I use all at different times. I recently found a new LED powered mag light which has a far more flexible arm which I now use on my bench. The one pictured above I used for a number of years quite successfully, however I have recently set my desk height to 1M, and it became redundant, as it is not possible to work above it whist sitting at a 1M desk. The new LED version allows me to view my job from the side, not above, so can be used on a higher desk top. I also use a multi power loupe (eyeglass fitting) which gives various mags from 3X to 10X for some jobs, but also have a visor (3x-10X) for other base work. And for detailed work, quartz circuits are a good example, I have an 80X stereo microscope, fitted with a .5X lens which brings it back to 40X but doubles the focal length, allowing me to get tools between the lens and the subject. Just like a lot of tools, no one tool may be capable of doing all jobs, and magnification is certainly a most important tool, so various forms may be required. Offshore -
Congrats, marriage is a wonderful institution! (If you want to live in an institution.) Have a wonderful day P4, and don't worry about the cynical observation, from a recent divorcee. Offshore

Hey Red, I like that. Please let us see it with the arm rests. I've just been modifying a new bench, and am considering them a well. O/S

The one consolation, is that you probably didn't want, or need, to deal with them anyway! O/S -
Red, I normally carry them in stock....fresh out right now, but more due within the week. O/S

Just a quick update on this one. I have now been advised that indeed an alternate supplier is now offering a die only.(Or a complete kit) I have a couple of these enroute and will check and test them against the known good model. Should this alternate model prove to be of an acceptable standard, we will have it available at around A$20.00. Offshore

Bidding on a Vibrograf B200 on the 'Bay
offshore replied to redwatch's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
@Justasgood, Just get "Auction Sentry" basic, works great without all the fancy stuff, and is pretty well priced. You can get a 1 month trial I think. I've used it for about 5 years. o/S -
Where to find nice watches in Guangzhou?
offshore replied to jerome123's topic in General Discussion
@Jerome, There is a saying, "First choose your dealer, then choose your watch." Most of the dealers here, are located in GZ. Reading through their reviews will confirm where they are located. At the same time you will come to a better understanding of who you want to buy from in the future. What better way to establish ties with your preferred dealer, than to meet them in the flesh? And if they "aren't available" to meet and show you around, then maybe you haven't found the best situation for you! We all have had to face up to this at some time, and its is the best way to come to grips with who you are dealing with. We all have finally worked out what best suits us each personally, through trial and error, and I recommend this as the best way to become comfortable with your rep buying. Offshore
