  1. As they say on TRF... "IN DA BIN".
  2. Unless the parts are broken... just use the ETA disassembly/assembly guides. Even for a novice like me, I've pretty much managed to take apart most of a 2836 or 2846 and have it go back together working! And yes, a lot of the parts are interchangeable. If you want an EBay deal... I think OCTO watches are ones that carry 2846's.
  3. It's also smart business. Look at how DeBoers controls the diamond market. All Mike Wood has to do is sell one or two of at an inflated price at auction to his friend, then his other 17 jump in value.
  4. Pismo, is the 24H hand locked to the hour hand (as in the Gen) or is it independently adjustable?

    PT 1680

Nice! Can we see some shots in daylight? Flash pics of watches tend to exaggerate the bad.
  6. Beautiful, nicely aged too. Care to share what it set you back?
  7. Why the ETA... IIRC, the GEN beat is 19.8 kbph, 21J is 21.6 kbph, ETA clone is at 28.8 kbph.
  8. Maybe they swapped a rep dial into the "Gen" so it looks 1:1.
  9. Checked the VRF Dial Archive... all of the markers touch the rehaut. That leaves the GEN as being as possible franken with aftermarket dial.
  10. It's too bad the ETA version is a 2836... IIRC the gen beats at 19.8 kbph. The 21J would be a closer match, but not sure about a 2813 that supposedly does GMT. As the 2836 and 2846 are almost identical movements, wonder if a GMT module could be placed on the 2846 thus giving you a better movement (over the 21J) and a closer to gen beat.
  11. Narikaa won't do MBW parts, only whole watches... talked to him about this a month or two back.
  12. Read that they were hacked... bad. Intruder deleted everything to the root directory. Apparently they have backups, but don't know the hole the intruder used to get in so they don't want to restore only to have it happen again. Which does not make sense. Why can't they restore the board offline, make sure they are running the latest board software (which should take care of any known security holes) and put it back online.
  13. *laugh* Thought it was Telly for a minute.
  14. Used to use that site as my gen comparison tool... but seems the Rolex Forums are gonzo?
  15. I was looking at some of the vintage 1680's offered by PT and noticed they offer a "BEST (Prototype)" edition that is sold out and then a few other 1680's, to which my untrained eye look virtually identical. AFAIK the "BEST" is also the same price as the others ($198). Can anybody tell me what difference there is (if any) between these?
  16. Definitely a rep. I have one just like this... all the IIc's that came out of the same GZ factory have the rehaut coronet slightly past 12, unlike the gen which should be smack on 12. Same SN as mine too.. Z754008. SCAM!
  17. Yeah, I already talked to Narikaa about it... and he isn't able to source them. I was at Nah Piek last November, but they had the new style cases... thinking I should have just bought the 1680 right there and then. While not as good as their previous 1680's... would have been a start instead of building from scratch.
  18. Wanting to start a new project, possibly a 1680 or 5512.. but now that EuroTimez is pretty much a dead-end... what decent case options exist without going to a Yuki or NDT?
  19. Beautiful catch... and the vintaging came for free. What did it set you back?
  20. Dial and hands issues aside, can an ETA/Asian ETA Clone use the same movement spacer as 21J NN38/DG2813 movement? Specs on the DG say it is 26mm, while the ETA is 25.6mm but both considered 11.5 ligne movements.
  21. Was attempting a movement swap and put a little too much stress on the seconds post... snapped off inside the hand. It won't come out. So hoping somebody knows a source for a replacement second hand for a 21J Milgauss. Any information is appreciated.
  22. Great post. The SD will never really go away... I think it's just "on holiday" for now.
  23. I am in Kuala Lumpur and it seems the obvious place to find reps (atleast the bad ones) is Petaling Street. There is a lot of "junk" reps on that street. I found a few references in the archives to a few dealers, but this info is a couple years old. So just wondering if someone can recommend anybody with access to good high quality reps there? Won't have alot of time... so preferably don't want to go through all the movements just to have the guy pull out junk reps from his "stash". Any recommendations are appreciated.
