From what I understand, the gmt hand fits gen but the rest are eta.

I would have much rather had a gen movement but I was not looking to over double what I have invested..............unless you are trying to offer me a deal I cannot pass up

My jorney is finally coming to an end........ I have finally aquired all the parts that I need to complete my build. I am still waiting on a few to get here in the mail but the search is over. I will post pics of all the parts that I will be using for the build. First up is a gen case. Dated to early 70's with non pcg. I did not want to build a Cornino due to the fact that in reality if I were to own a PCG 1675 it would not see to much wrist time. I am building this to wear it and enjoy. This case came under some scrutiny after I had posted some picture here due to some corrosion on the caseback. However I was able to obtain it for a price that I felt was to good to pass up. I have located a few gen casebacks to use in the event that the corrosion proves to be to much. The "stuff" on the case itself was just some dried glue that was removed. The crystal, tube, and crown are all original to the case. The second part of the build is a gen dial that I picked up and is what started the whole journey for the build. The dial is matte and is correct for a non pcg case. I think it is good overall condition and I am happy with the patina. Here is the movement that is going to power the project. This is what I had the biggest problem figuring out. I really did not want to use an a21 2813 movement in a project that I have invested a good deal of money in. In reading through other members builds I came across chiman12's project. He used the Zodiac 75B movement which is a true GMT movement that has a bph closer to gen. The thing that sold me about the movement though is the fact that this movement will accept a gen GMT hand and date wheel. I was able to source a serviced movement for an online retailer in India. I found a gen tritium GMT hand on VRF, that has the correct patina to match the dial being used. Once again staying with period correctness on the watch I went with the large hand as that is what is appropriate for a matte dial non pcg watch. I also found a gen silver date wheel with flat top 3, and open 6 / 9 that hopefully will work with the movement. For the hour, min, sec hands I plan on using Clark, Yuki, or Wholesaleoutlet, and have them aged to match gen GMT and dial. Next up is the bezel and insert. The bezel assembly was purchased from wholesaleoutlet and included the retaining ring. The bezel itself I will have aged to match the finish of the case. The pepsi bezel pictured will not be used as I am planning on using will be a gen faded black one that I picked up on rolexforums. I am actually thinking of sourcing a gen faded pepsi insert and selling the black one as in my mind the pepsi is what makes a 1675 a 1675. The final part is the bracelet. I found a gen 62510H Jubilee bracelt with 555 end pieces. Idealy I think that the end pieces should be 550 but the 555 will work. The bracelet is dated to the same period as the case and bracelet. In closing I would like to thank everyone that helped me out with information and advice on this build. It has proven to be much more involved than I originally had expected when I bought the gen dial and decided to complete the build. Hopefully the hard part of sourcing parts is over and the assembly process goes fairly easy. I am not holding my breath though, lol. From a monetary stand point I have invested more than I originally planned. I do feel that it is an amount that I could recoup, however the watch would probably have to be stripped and parts sold as their value is probably greater than the whole. I hate to think about it as I have much invested in the build but a gen 1675 is in my future!

I have been looking into the Rolex 6508 but I am having a hard time finding any info on it. I have read that it is similar to the 6538 but have also seen that it is the 5508? Can someone please let me know if this is a big crown sub model? Thanks

The 79 dollar one from wholesale outlet comes with a retaining ring now. This is the one I just bought for my gen 1665 case.

I second chiman12 in the ingod rail dial and at only 150 bukcs or so you cannot go wrong. Looks to be same dial that ndt sells for over 400. I cant wait to get my MBW 1665 case to do this build.
-
I contacted the seller about it. He will go 820 for the case set including the caseback but there is corrosion that is disturbing
-
So I got my dial today. This is the first step of my 1675 build. I also got the hands but I don't think I will need them as I have probably ruled out going gen case and movement. Out of curiosity, would I be able to sell the hands and if so would it be better to sell as a set of mercedes hands and the GMT hand seperatly. Also, what is a fair price for something like these considering that the GMT hand is missing tritium on arrow.

I messaged ingod about a week ago about it and he said he had them, I assume you are talking about the Rail Dial! He said 153 shipped, I can reply and say I will take it if you want to see if it is still available!

Help needed to ID 78350 bracelet - Is this gen?
usmctowgnr replied to nakortheblue's topic in The Rolex Area
Looks good to me, the scrolling is correct. On the right side of the crown the top scroll turns up while on the left side the bottom scoll turns up. This is correct. Here is a rather lengthy discussion about the authenticity of these clasp markings. http://www.network54.com/Forum/207593/thread/1288759930/1288922659/Orchi+believes+this+Odd+type+of+Rolex+%26quot%3BScroll%26quot%3B+Logo+on+Buckle-Clasps+is+aftermarket..%2B%2B -
Thanks for the input, I am glad I posted pictures of the case as the corrosion is something I never payed attention to. I think for now I will pursue the 1655 1:1 unless anyone knows if MBW ever made a case?

I honestly don't know if it is worth building a watch for 2700 dollars that is worth basically the same. I could have 2700 in it and maybe get what I have out of it. If I were to go the rep route I could have about 800 in it with gen dial, insert, crystal, crown, tube bracelet, and be able to get that back out as well............... and spend the difference building a 16600 with same gen parts.
-
So I have a tough decision to make. As I am sure some of you know from my other 1675 post I have a gen dial and hands that I recently purchased. I was planning on building a rep 1655-1675. However, I just found a gen 1675 midcase with back, crystal, crown and tube for what I think is a reasonable price. It is still not cheap as I will have to do some liquidating to pick it up. I plan on putting a gen jubilee bracelt with 550 endlinks on the watch either way and all ready have a faded black insert. If I were to buy the gen case I could not afford at the time to get gen bezel or movement. I would probably get a rep bezel and and a21 movement and wear it till I could get a bezel and 1575 movement. I figure I could find a gen bezel for around 400 and movement for about a grand down the road to complete everything. My question is, once I get all the parts I figure I will have around 2700 in the watch. Is that a reasonable amount for a franken? This is a tough call for me as like I said I will need to liquidate some watches and probably parts for a 16600 build I was planning. Thanks for looking and for any advice, Joe

Which 1655 needed for a franken 1675 build
usmctowgnr replied to usmctowgnr's topic in The Rolex Area
Thanks everyone for the wonderfull input. I think I have found the case, bezel, and retaining ring. My biggest dilema now is the movement. I have an eta 2846 from an OCTO coming from another member that I would like to use but I do not know how or who to contact to have it modified to a GMT. Freddy I did the search and saw your threads on the build but the links that I think were the ones on the 2846-GMT info did not work. Am I missing something? Any input on this most recent hurdle would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again Joe -

Thanks, also can an eta 2846 movement be converted to GMT and used in the project? -
So I just scored a gen Rolex 1675 dial and hand set. I will post pics tomorrow of the dial and hands. I have read up on all the tutorials for the 1655-1675 builds but I am still a little confused as to what case I need. I know everyone says Josh's 1:1 1655 but is this the mcqueen 1655? I plan on doing gen crystal insert crown and tube along with my dial. I assume the hands will be of no use to me so they will probably end up on vrf. Any help on material and info is greatly appreciated. Thanks Joe

Why do I think of motorboats everytime I see your posts wagon? Sorry meant eaton android likes to correct my spelling even though I am always right.

Honestly I cannot speak as to whether the crystal is worth it or not as I never got to see it before gen crystal. I can tell you I would not have changed to gen crystal had I not gotten an amazing deal on one at rolex forums.

About a month ago I became the proud owner of a WM9 V2. I received this watch in a trade from a great member who will remain nameless unless he would like to chime in. The watch has a gen period correct insert that came with the watch. I had the watch sent to pbdad for instalation of a gen crown, and crystal that I had sourced. I cannot begin to thank pbdad enough for the great job he did. Wonderfull communication and I cannot wait to work with him again on other projects. The insert and crystal has very small scuffs which imho adds to its authenticity. I plan on having this watch be my daily beater as it was for the owner before me. Without further ado

Truly a perfect piece of work. Gabus is a lucky man.
