  1. While I was at work the mail carrier came to deliver my new Carrera Chrono. I have been chomping at the bit all week. The wife decided not to answer the doorbell because she wasn't fully dressed, and so I got a nice little pink slip. "You can pick up your package on Tuesday, January 16th after 8:30". Argh!!!! She does not understand why I am so upset....
  2. This watch keeps popping up...on the board, in my dreams. If they come out with the RG with the ceramic bezel I just might be able to convince the wife to let me get it. She agrees that it is one of the toughest looking watches out there. She says it reminds her of a Hummer.
  3. Nicely done Vmena. Looks like a healthy amount of members will be sporting this watch early on. Sorry I didn't order through the GB, but King was already expecting my payment and I didn't want to reneg. Either way I'll be enjoying this watch along with you all soon! Mine is already on the way!
  4. Great Watch! I am genuinely jealous. Another avenue to pursue for a Gen Rollie is the Diamond District. Take a vacation to NYC and you'll see what I mean. I have seen subs start at $3800, and by the time you leave the dealer with a "no thank you" they are chasing you down the street going $2800? $2600? How much you want to pay? Go towards the end of the day and some of these guys will do anything to make a few bucks. I'm sure they take a lot of these watches in for low trade in values too, so they can let them go cheap. One thing I've learned about the DD> You can easily pay too much, but if you know how to wheel and deal they'll sense it and make it clear that they want to sell the watch above all.
  5. In honor of my "soon to arrive" Carrera rep...this will be on my wrist throughout the week!
  6. And a damn fine looking watch it is. I originally liked the borwn/leather version best, but after drooling over pix of this version for a few days I am starting to love it. I was wanting to get a rubber strap for my gen 42mm PO and never did. This will take the current place of that for now. Rubber strap increases the overall wearability/durability of a watch IMO. OT - Anyone know if the rep rubber PO strap will fit the 42mm Gen? The Gen strap is a fortune.
  7. I don't know what the coating on your Breitling is like, but my PO (gen) takes a quick breath and a circular wipe from a T-Shirt to look clear as can be...almost invisible in fact. Honestly, the coating does show remnants of water spots that dried on the crystal, etc, but cleaning in the above manner is all it takes. Also, dust doesn't stick to it any more than any other watch. It might be more visible because the crystal looks almost invisible under it though. The double sided coating on the PO is unreal. It can really seem like there is no crystal at all.
  8. Vmena, Just wanted to clarify that I won't be part of the group this round. Sorry about that. FWIW, I hope enough people jump on this one to send a message to the factories that we appreciate them taking chances on "less expensive" watches for reps. This is one I have been waiting on.
  9. Hard to tell if the hands are really that different. If anything they don't look as red as the Gen, but the reflections are probably at fault here. ...but man! What a horrible date font!
  10. Of the 6 reps I bought in 06, the best was the one I got from TTK. It had no bvlemishes, everything was straight, and everything worked. I think he checks everything before he ships. Too bad he doesn't take PPal anymore. Of the watches I got from EL, TWG, PT, and Josh, all had minor issues. They all bothered the crap out of me in the beginning, and after the watches stopped being my favorite new toy i got over most of them. The most annoying was the 4 crooked markers on my PO, and second place goes to my LV which actually had impact marks (nicks) in the bezel. Since I have added my own blemishes the original ones are less noticable. I am liking what I am seeing for 2007 so far though. It will be mostly "special" project reps for me this year. I am jumping on the Carrera as soon as I see a steel band, and the BB has always been a favorite of mine, but i'll wait until some of the issues are reported to be worked out. I'd get most of my reps from TTK this yearf, but PPal is really the only way for me so...I do think TTK goes further than the other dealers to check his merch before it ships though.
  11. YESSS. This is the watch I have been waiting for. Can we please have it with a steel band as well? I bought the quartz brown version from TTK last year and thought it was superb. I knew the 7750 version had to be coming soon. I almost want to pull the trigger, but I think I can hold out for the steel bracelet version. I also wouldn't mind seeing the brown version with a leather strap. Nice back too. Just like the Gen. I can't wait to get my hands on this guy! I also saw it up on Andrew and Josh's sites. I imagine everyone will have it soon.
  12. Shows up as 895.20 when i add it to the shopping bag. Wow...there's nothing left now.
  13. http://www.ashford.com/ Do you guys not even see the banner on the front page about 20% off sitewide? ...or is it just the cart that doesn't work. I tried it on my PC and my wife's laptop and it works on both. Strange.
  14. Still working for me. Just add the watch to your cart and bam, 20% marked off. ...no more Chopards though. A PO for 1695...Seamaster for well under a grand still there and both great deals.
  15. In my experience Miyota makes a fantastic movement. I have a Miyota rep that's about 10 years old. The movement has never been service or regulated and is still within 10 seconds per day.
  16. Been absent a while since I have been tending to the big move, but got an e-mail from ashford.com today that all their merchandise is 20% off, automatically when added to cart. They're one of the cheapest place in the US to get a Gen as it is, so it's hard to ignore. Their stock took a dive to below 20cents in the last couple of months, so I imagine it is either a clearance effort, or a last ditch effort to liquidate before their assests become confiscated (been in companies where this happened before). I think the black bezel Omega PO came to like $1700 or something....and they're watches are all new and same as anywhere else. I got my PO and Aquaracer from them and love both. So if you're looking for a Gen, check there first. They just might have your deal. They have a Chpoard Mille Miglia that comes out to less than $2000. Too bad I don't have the dough because I have been eyeing that watch for a long time!
  17. I go to a LOT of hockey games here in S.Fla. I don;t think I have ever counted less than 5 subs at any given time, Everybody seems to have one down here...at least the types that go out and indulge in sporting events. Rarely do I see a rep either (although las game I was at the guy sitting next to me had a rep SS Sub). Sporting events are great watch watching opportunities...especially hockey and basketball since the attendees are often businessmen having "business liesure" outings.
  18. Yes... you have nothing to worry about. The movement you are getting is the same as the tried-and-true, famous "Swiss" ETA family that are so well regarded here. Yes it is made in China, as most are, but it is considered by almost all dealers, and most enthusiasts to be a "Swiss" movement. Don't worry...it's one of the good ones. It will last a LONG time if you care for it.
  19. GF = "I bought another XXX. So how about that!" Wife = "Honey...you're not going to beleive the deal I got on a XXX (with fingers crosssed)" Buy her a ring and see how long the "My Money, My Computer, My Finger" theory lasts!
  20. I have to think that (especially on a rep) avoiding pulling the crown and dialing in the time every day is something that it is beneficial to avoid. The threads on out crowns and tubes aren't usually precision cut, and IMO this is a weak area for reps. Also, I know that The Zigmeister stated the oils don't seep or deteriorate any faster, but I have to think that keeping a watch running would at least have some effect on maintaining the uniformity of the lubrication. At any rate, I keep my watches in a winder and greatly appreciate the fact that I can quickly pick any one, put it on, and go!
  21. Doe this mean it's "buyer beware" when trading or dealing in the members section? It's been a while since I got a rep, but dealing with Joshua, EL, Andrew, Neil, or any of the trusted dealers and I have been pretty confident that I would get the watch i expected, or it would be made right. I don't wish this on anyone, but if it happened to me I might be scared away from trades period. Unfortunately, that is really the only safe way to exchange reps, or get rid of them for new purchases. We need to figure out a way to make these kind of transactions safer....kind of like ebays feedback system. Chronomat...give him back his money.
  22. Wow...I kinda like the style and front view rotor. You'd think from their advertisement that Fossil believes they have created a watch revolution here...the self winding watch. I guess most people who don'ty know watches are used to quartz though, so they might be surprised by the big news .
  23. I picked up one of the quartz chrono Carreras from Niel and it was actually quite stunning. I was sure we'd have seen an asian 7750 based Carrera by now, based on the quality of the quartz one. I wouldn't touch the 21j version though. Look at how popular the Link has become...possibly one of the most popular reps out now. The Carrera would probably be more so (just in case some watch makers are reading!)
