  1. Yep, that's a 6542 all right. With the original insert they are listed on Ebay as high as $45,000, the low around $8,000. Please post more pics! My Uncle left me his Timex with a dead battery and two payments left on it...
  2. The pointy crown guards are the El Corniño style were used until `64 or `65. The later 1675 had the more familiar looking crown guards and the bigger GMT hand.
  3. I can't tell from the pictures if the crown guards are the El Corniño style or not. I believe that's the early 1675 that had the small GMT hand. The later 1675 had the full size hand.
  4. R E L A X I couldn't resist! The hand stack on the ETA 2893-2 is the same as the modified ETA or Asian 2836-2, the GMT hand is on the bottom.
  5. Very nice work! The ETA 2893-2 takes the same size GMT 4th hand as Roles genuine. It made my 6542 build a whole lot easier. FxrAndy has them at a good price.
  6. I was in 8th grade when the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. It was huge. My father was appalled! Then came the rest of the 'British Invasion'. I remember teen magazines doing stories like the Dave Clark 5 beating up the Beatles! I guess we were more violent then. In Chicago we were 'greasers'. Had my hair slicked back with a curl in front and a 'DA'. By my freshman year in college most everyone had gone to long hair, bell bottoms and Ty-died shirts. The 1968 Democratic Convention was a huge party right up until the end... On subject, does anyone know where this bar might be?
  7. The genuine Rolex spring bars on the left are for the cases with the holes drilled through. The hole should be 1.3mm for the spring bar to fit.
  8. Lol!! I would hope not! Though it would negate a need for a watch-winder... I'd have to guess a franken would yield a BJ (from a lady)...
  9. I have several Clark's 116 crystals. Out of the package at full height it measures 30.2mm. Taken down, shortened for the 6542 it measures 29.9mm.
  10. So, does a rep get you a hand-job?
  11. True, but a restored `74 Cadillac makes people's heads turn! If the thinking does go that "if the watch is old, it must be real", I like that! It makes sense, too. So, would you say among 'civilians' a vintage is the same, or slightly less status than a new? In my circle, age and position, I'm never questioned. Kind of nice 'comes with the territory' thing. In a business surrounding I'd think, but don't know, that there would be a pecking order of sorts. Too young, and/or obviously not the right level of success/income and the watch would be assumed as a rep or the person is irresponsible to overspend like that. Take away status. A seasoned person, successful sales, etc., and I think it would be accepted and be tops in status. By the way, nice watch!
  12. If, for the most part, a Rolex is a status symbol at least of some sort, then would a vintage Rolex be less of a status symbol to those outside our circle? If you're wearing a `50s or `60's or even a `70s model does the rest of the world still say 'Oh, A Rolex!' or is that reserved for the new ones with ceramic bezels and not the well-worn vintaged looking ones? Does Ebay or inheritance take some of that status away?
  13. Otto Frei has replacement pearls, but I don't know if they are the same size for the DSSD as for Submariners. Otto Frei at the bottom of the page.
  14. I'd recommend Mary at Watch International. To my knowledge she uses the same factory, and it's the same watch as Andrew's. Just email her wit a picture of the watch you want from any site. She will give a better price to members here, and she will do her own inspection and Quality Control, and send you pics of the exact watch you'll get. Because of her service she is very busy, so a little patience is suggested.
  15. Clark Watch has had both genuine and aftermarket Rolex springbars several months ago when I bought from him. He is very honest and will accurately say what he has.
  16. The blank ETA 28xx dials from Otto Frei that I've been using say they are 28.5mm, though I measure them at 28.3mm. They fit in rep 16610, 16710, 5508, and the 6542 case I bought from you.
  17. For $88 it's a nice watch. I won't say anything about the raggedy bezel numbers ...
  18. I got this one from Mary at Watchinternational and assume it's the same as Andrew/Joshua have. I turned it into a 6204, but the basics are there. The lug holes need to be opened, and you can slim the case down a bit. I took the crystal down to sit as it's supposed to, it was way too high, And the 'Rolex Brevet' crown is centered and looks good to me.
  19. All very good advice. I had a real problem, and ruined two cases, trying to drill out the GMT 'Retro' case. Unlike my 6542 that the 1mm hole goes all the way through, on the Retro for some reason, the
  20. Interesting, no posts from Baldrick on RWG since the 20th, though he has been 'lurking'.
