  1. if you want a nice, thick strap, another consideration would be a 22mm BOB sportivo (intended for panerai, and notably thicker than breitling straps) -- i have one on my chrono avenger and it looks sweet. pair it up with a polished OEM style 22mm buckle and you've got a great combo. i went with a caramel sportivo; you could also do black of course (i've posted pics of both below). dt
  2. @usil, i updated the link to the watch boys ebay store (sorry about that); i think the picture from their site that best captures their straps is the one i've linked to below. however, even this one is still a bit off -- my strap has better grain to it, and is a bit shinier than the strap in the picture (in a good kind of way)... also, not sure if you saw flavor flav's posting about his 183g here, but the BWB (jose tan) gator strap he has on there looks pretty nice, although i couldn't find a similar one with matching stitching on his site (which is here) lastly, i finally got a decent digital camera and am planning on taking some pictures of my reps this weekend; i'll try to remember to post a pic of my 183 here when i take one. dt
  3. @ usil, i totally agree re: the pictures on strapmasters site -- those are the crappiest looking expensive straps i've ever seen. their pictures just plain suck. if you're looking for good quality alligator straps, i have a black alligator strap (w/ black stitching) from watch boys on my 183, and it is good value at $99. you can find him at paneristi here or on ebay here. i would be curious to hear quarks' response to your question, so also consider this post a BUMP dt
  4. thanks for the update!! my pam 063 is already getting antys in its pantsy thanks for all your hard work on these -- it really is appreciated
  5. i studied in copenhagen for a semester and lived with a danish family; my favorite smørrebrød was dark rye bread, liver paté, topped with cucumber. for an american, it was definitely different lunchtime fare, but strangely good. any brøndby if fans here? dt
  6. i can't speak for tt, but i'm guessing he means "know what it is you're buying before you buy it" (ie. do some research on a watch's movement before buying it). same thing could be said for the asian 7750 -- it has its known issues (particularly the old version); some people refuse to buy watches w/ asian 7750 as a result. should be interesting to see ziggy's forthcoming review... dt
  7. i like it. the brushed case looks great with the brushed? dial....i also like the big six and twelve. my only concern would be that i might get tired of the silver subdial...but i do like how the silver hands match the silver subdial... dt
  8. awesome. i need to use that in a conversation sometime. i still can't believe that show was cancelled -- some of the best writing on television. dt
  9. for everyone wondering when the chronomat evolution will be released, see angus' post from this morning here...
  10. this is really random but i can't help myself -- i was grabbing my morning coffee this morning and saw a guy wearing a rose gold big bang outside of peet's coffee on polk street in san francisco; he was trying to read the paper while trying to look after his daughter.....i didn't have a chance to talk to the guy, but i was wondering, what are the chances that this guy is wearing a genuine rose gold big bang (particularly given the watch was just recently released by angus)? you guys ever had those moments where you see someone with a nice, random watch and wonder if the person is a RWG member? anyways, i figured i would throw it out there just in case that guy happens upon this thread. dt btw, missed connections is a section on craigslist created solely for trying to track down people you saw but didn't get to talk to.......kind of fun
  11. the power reserve varies for different watches, but most of my pams have a power reserve of about 40ish hours (nearly two days worth). i actually enjoy winding my watches.
  12. admittedly, i haven't had the time to look into it properly, but figured someone here might know -- is there any chance the iphone will be capable of synching with corporate email? you'd think apple would have realized this is an important market to try to reach...
  13. just curious, any reason you have an aversion to manual wind versions? i don't know too much about panerai automatics, but the pam 063 gmt is popular. with some modding (primarily new cyclops & datewheel), it has the potential to be a 99% rep. i don't know that i would suggest it as your first pam though. if you're willing to consider manual wind versions, most people find a 111h or 112h is a good place to start. take a look in the panerai photo gallery section -- there are tons of great pictures of all the different versions. i must warn you -- pams are addicting -- pretty soon you'll find yourself with a 063, 111h, 112h, 183h, 187 and 217 hope this helps. dt
  14. i believe there used to be a search field where you could type in a few keywords and search the board from the top of the main page; is there any way to put that field (it's a pretty small box) back on the top of the main page? need to make finding the search button easy for the noobs Admin, thanks so much for all the time you spend making this a great board!!! dt
  15. i was just looking at the various versions of the chrono evolution on the breitling website, and noticed that for the stick markers version of the white dial, the description says it is actually a mother of pearl dial, with silver subdials. is the white dial stick markers version available with a white dial that isn't made of mother of pearl? dt
  16. the article (& picture in slideshow) seems to indicate it will be available in june 2007 in the US....
  17. apple just released the iphone; it looks incredible. check it out here any thoughts? dt
  18. another good badges quote: "badges? do you want badges motherbitch? i give you badges! 99 cents each. i sell you some." -store clerk in the will smith movie 'bad boys'
  19. so i sent off my 111h, 112h and 183h to ziggy to have them relumed with superluminova, and after having the watches back for about a month or so, i have to say that i never would have guessed how much i enjoy having my pam's superlumed. it is really a noticeable modification -- anytime you go from normal lighting to less lighting, the watch glows like a torch. it typically stays really bright for maybe a minute or so, but even after that the lume always is bright enough to read the watch in whatever lighting you might find yourself in. i'm not obsessed about having a 1:1 panerai with dagger swan neck, etc (i typically buy the asian movement versions & spend the difference on nice straps), but i think i will be having all of my favorite pam's relumed. dt
  20. not a bad looking watch (i can see how one would like it), but not for me....
  21. how about an update from the event....
  22. pp/email sent. thanks mark for all your hard work on this...
  23. good question -- i was wondering the same thing....
  24. i'm not sure i would take it to a place that sells tags to have it resized..... to set the time, pull the crown out one notch further than you pulled it out to set the date (hopefully you followed the others' instructions re: when to set the date -- you should really first set the time to say 5:25, then set the date to the day before today, then use the 'set the time' function, moving time forward so that the date changes to today, then continue on to set the time, making sure you have the AM/PM correct so the date changes at midnight and not noon. i hope this makes sense -- kind of hard to describe. finally, re: the chrono function, to minimize the risk of hand slippage (ie. having the chrono hand not lining up at 12:00), ziggy recommends running the chrono hand till somewhere between 12:00 and 3:00 so that it doesn't have far to snap back to 12:00. once again, hope this makes sense. enjoy your new watch. dt
