  1. here's an idea re: setting one of these movements to the atomic clock. wait till the power reserve is fully depleted and the seconds hand is no longer sweeping. then, set the time one minute ahead of the current time. then a few seconds before it the time on the clock approaches, begin winding the watch so that the second hand begins sweeping in sync with the atomic clock. given this is hard to describe in words, here's an illustration. i) you let your power reserve run down completely. the watch is now stopped at 7:47 & 47 seconds. ii) it is currently 5:30, so you set the watch to read 5:31 & 47 seconds. iii) right before 5:31 & 47 seconds approaches, begin winding the movement so that the seconds hand starts ticking in sync with the atomic clock. let me know if this works for you -- i thought of it a while back but haven't tried it yet. dt
  2. i figure it could be therapeudic to get it out... pam 212 rolex pepsi gmt josh's "perfect" seadweller pam 231 one vintage PAM (not sure which yet) dt
  3. i'm guessing you're talking about your chrono avenger? i put this BOB strap (in 22/22mm) on my chrono avenger with one of their brushed OEM style buckles, and it gives the chrono avenger a totally different look. i don't mean to feed the already growing monster , but thought i would mention it .... dt
  4. @sssfurfer, no worries; i'll definitely write a little review once i get the straps. i went with these three straps. dt
  5. @pugwash, i've never heard of this black seal tuesday thing. any history / color?
  6. make a deal? i'm confused. i thought the straps were a pretty good deal at 38% off...
  7. hey guys, just noticed last night that strap culture is having a 38% off sale for the first 38 orders to respond to their post here on the paneristi forum in honor of the 38th birthday of their founder. i haven't had any experience with strap culture but figured i would give them a shot and pick up a couple straps (i'm a sucker for a good sale); thought you guys might like to do the same. dt
  8. after reading Admin' post and thinking about trying to bring in extra revenue for the site (in particular through google ads), i actually started looking at the "ads by google" on the site. not surprisingly, a lot of the ads are about watches. however, i don't know about you guys, but i don't really have much interest in clicking on links to other watch related sites -- rwg meets most of my watch needs (and then some). i don't know how the google ads work, but i would have to guess that the admin could provide some feedback re: what type of ads to post. so, i was wondering if it might be helpful to query the board to see what types of google ads people might be interested in clicking on... my first suggestion: given what a success the rwg casino was back in the early days of rwg (when rwg cash flowed like wine), i would guess party poker or some other online gambling website would fare much better (and bring in more revenue for RWG) than watch related sites. anybody have any other thoughts or suggestions? dt ps - Admin, you mentioned somewhere in one of your follow-up posts for members not to make "suggestions" for people to click the adsense ads; if you (or one of the other mods for that matter) think this post might be construed as such, feel free to delete it.
  9. you might try looking at these two posts...
  10. my experience with moneybookers (in the US) has been it cannot verify my credit cards to upload money...
  11. you know what comforts me? there are people out there that look at wrists just as much as we do, and they have no idea that quality reps of watches like panerai even exist. tonight i was at a bar and was talking to a friend of a friend, who at one point looked down at my wrist (i was wearing my 111h with a molina vintage strap) and immediately blurted out: "holy sh!t, i f@(%ing hate you" -- to which i said (with a smile on my face) -- "you know panerai's?" he proceeded to tell me that he almost plopped down USD$4,500 for a panerai last month at the local AD, at which point i told him to his disbelief that mine was actually a replica. when he looked at it again, asked me how much i paid for it, and when i told him, he was like, "i f@$#ing hate you even more!!!" we have it good fellas -- enjoy it while it lasts (and let's hope that's a little while longer). dt
  12. i can also vouch for kurt at watch boys -- great straps (i have one of his alligator straps), and top notch customer service. dt
  13. just curious -- how do you remove scratches from a dial?
  14. great pics of the PAW in paris i really like the speedy on that nato strap. did that come with a vintage sub, or did you buy it aftermarket? where can i pick one up?
  15. i'm wearing my pam 217 on black europelli cordovan with copper stitching quality picture from subzero1: and the crappy cell phone wrist shot...
  16. if you think they are really going to do some serious checking, could serial numbers be an issue here (even if you are able to obtain a legit receipt)? just a thought; wish i could help. dt
  17. hi ziggy, hope you're having a good vacation & not stressing too much about these boards -- i'm really surprised how combative they can get at times. regardless, be encouraged that many here DO think your work with luming watches is actually pretty amazing (i can't imagine applying that goop without getting it all over the dial ). not sure how to get on your waiting list for when you get back from your time off, but i'd like to get a couple of my watches lumed by yours truly. thanks, dt
  18. it looks there are some wierd things going on with the stitching on that moocroc (i linked to the pic i'm talking about below). any comments on the quality of the stitching?
  19. i just read a post by irongambit about his positive member trade experience with rocket754 and it made me wonder if it would make some sense to have a member trades review section. not sure if this has been considered or discussed already. any thoughts? dt
  20. rocket754 is just a member who has sold a couple of his watches lately (i bought one too). i also had a positive experience with him -- good communication, fast shipping and accurate representation of the watch being sold. given all the problems the dealers have been having with unreasonable buyers, i think it's not a bad idea to have a review section of sorts for experiences people have had with member trades. admins, any thoughts? (i just posted a similar suggestion in the suggestion category)
  21. i find it interesting how each of my friends & coworkers views my newfound addiction. it's an interesting insight into people's personalities, priorities, perceptions, etc. i've found i have the full spectrum of responses. my friends and coworkers generally fit in the following categories: i) intrigue and genuine interest/curiousity ii) i want one, help me find one i like iii) like to give me a hard time for having so many watches iv) wow, that is an amazing rep, but i still will only buy a genuine v) like to make fun of the fact that i would buy a replica watch and try to embarass me some comments on personality types: i & ii = generally my more reasonable, down to earth friends & coworkers iii = ball busters. they like the watches, just like to point out that it's getting out of hand (which of course it is) iv = just one of these -- he has wanted a panerai for a long time (my only friend that knew what a panerai was before i got my first one), i think he is still in shock at how good the PAM reps are. regardless, he wants to feel like he's really earned such a nice watch, and is willing to wait for it. plus, he wants a watch to pass on to his son, etc. got to respect that. i think my panerais will help him make an informed choice on a gen though, so that's good too. v = only one of these so far too -- he is a coworker that has a genuine blue omega smp and i think got a little upset when he realized my $150 4th gen PO looks/feels just as legit as his genuine just some other thoughts i thought people might identify with... dt
  22. i'm having problems too -- it says the bandwith limit has been exceeded...
  23. so i went to a wedding this weekend and decided to bring two PAMs -- my 111h on BOB coconut strap and my 183h on a watch boys black alligator strap with black stitching. the 111h was for the casual stuff, and the 183h was for the actual wedding (in my opinion the 183 looks fantastic with a suit). after the wedding i had taken off my 183h and put in on the table next to the 111h and my buddy saw them both laying there and was like, of ALL the different watches you have (he is already in disbelief that i now own 8 different watches) you decided to bring two that are practically identical? a little surprised, i quickly pointed out the 111h was more casual (with the big crown guard, calf strap, etc) and the 183h was clearly a dress watch (with the small crown, alligator strap, etc), but it was no use -- he looked and saw two big watches: one with a brown strap and one with a black strap. i realize this is in a similar vein as many previous posts, but does anybody else have similar experiences? i'm guessing most of those here who are married probably get it from their wives all the time, but do many people here get crap from their friends / mates / compadres for being so addicted to watches? dt
  24. and then.....HE REMEMBERED!!! how could he forget? the silence should have been a dead giveaway... the incessant ticking from that damn maserati clock. a quartz no less, insulting the craftmanship of an otherwise sophisticated, elegant creation: the responsive 4.2-litre 90° V8; the skyhook automatic damping system; the renowned maserati stability program. a thing of beauty. "i can't let it tick away another day" he had thought, disconnecting the wires just before midnight. even arvo paart hadn't been able to silence the deafening ticking of the maserati clock. now, early in the morning, the beautiful, intense silence. no more ticking. then the idea hit him: i will replace it with a panerai. a perfect marriage. a classic italian car and a classic italian watch. first, to decide upon a dial. perhaps a 212? timing 0-60 would be convenient. but the dial is just too busy. perhaps a 005? the logo is nice, but it must be a sandwich dial. a 111h then? yes - it is decided. a classic, just like the maserati. now for the parts. the crystal? it must be sapphire, and AR coated. the movement? swiss with working swan neck regulator. check. oh, and need to make sure there is no recessed pinion. anything else? almost forgot about the relume. does finepics work on cars? perhaps ziggy? i remember reading something about how working on watches is like working on a cars. no matter - i'll send them each a PM this afternoon. for now, i will go back to bed. the girl! i had nearly forgotten. this new project will have to wait; rwg will still be there when i awake.
