  1. i wouldn't throw out the 187 just yet. there is something to be said for the monstrous watch factor. i wore mine out last weekend and had several people notice it. it's fun to take it off your wrist and let people check out such an imposing watch. lots of compliments. just my $0.02, dt
  2. hi james -- welcome to the promised land of reps (hold on to your wallet). currently none of our trusted dealers have the 38mm santos 100 rep (just the 42mm size). how small are your wrists? i think you would be surprised what you can pull off...if there is a cartier AD in your area i would go in and try on the 42mm version just to see how it sits on your wrist. dt
  3. i'm thinking of printing this topic to show my friends as proof that my watch additction is not totally abnormal. i currently have 10 reps, and i try to keep the wrist time fairly equal. on weekends i tend to sport my bigger watches (187, 217, chrono avenger), while during the week i wear more reasonable sized watches (111h, 112h, sub, po, navitimer). my dressier watches (183, santos 100) generally get less wrist time. dt
  4. with all the top notch dealers here i would be extremely surprised if you find anyone who has ordered from any of those sites since joining RWG. welcome to the promised land of replica watches! hold on to your wallet; if you have any respect for your bank account, don't go near those "panerai" watches. dt
  5. i find it really interesting that people get so worked up about this whole question. it's obviously a sensitive subject, and nobody likes other people telling them why they behave in a particular way. the way i see it, everyone has their own reasons for buying a replica watch. honestly, i enjoy the whole process: i) the learning (history of various watches/movements, finding good watch/strap combinations), ii) the community (personalities, cultures and countries represented here), and iii) of course, the watches. dt
  6. what kind of replicas are you looking for? polo / lacoste shirts? i can't imagine many other things i'd want a replica of...
  7. happy bday Admin -- i made an extra rwg donation today -- consider it a birthday gift & have a beer on me
  8. great post rob - well written and thought out as always. it's good to see you posting more lately; you are a real asset to this community. dt
  9. i found this genuine insert on the bay here; i'm thinking about pulling the trigger on this one. does anyone have any experience with this guy? a little skeptical buying something from pakistan, but they seem to be legit and have good feedback. also, if i were to get one of these genuine inserts, from what i've read it takes some drilling/modding to get it to fit properly in our reps. i don't have the right tools (or skills!) to do this myself; are there any members (preferably in the US) that have done this for their GMT's and would consider doing the modding on mine for a small fee? thanks, dt
  10. thanks for the response by-tor. i remember reading that in your guide to the gmt master, but i wasn't sure if palpatine is still sourcing these inserts given his recent retirement from modding work. i wasn't going to bother him about it, but guess it couldn't hurt to send him a PM just in case... EDIT: i'm confusing palpatine with finepics. oops.
  11. so i heard back from one of the guys on rolexforums re: getting a genuine bezel insert; here's his reply: case & serial number before shipping it? that could be a problem.
  12. where were you able to source the gen insert? how much? modding required to get it to fit in your GMT master? PM me if you'd rather send the info that way. thanks, dt
  13. thanks -- i actually realized that nuance right after i posted (i've subsequently edited the link). did the insert require modding before installing into your GMT master?
  14. i've been eyeing the GMT master, but everyone seems to indicate that a new insert is a must. i haven't seen any posts re: good places to source these inserts, so i started searching on ebay, etc. i found this ebay auction here for an aftermarket insert. anyone have any experience with this seller? any thoughts / ways to tell the quality of this insert? then as i thought about it more i figured real rolex owners might be a good source for finding these, so after some google searching i stumbled across a post on www.rolexforums.com and found an interesting thread here about GMT bezel inserts. i will try to register & post on there tonight to see if i can get some more info re: sourcing a genuine bezel insert, and will post any findings here. any other thoughts / experiences re: GMT master bezels? dt
  15. i feel exactly the same way. good thing i don't have a wifey to explain it to (yet!).
  16. PM sent. i have a guy in sf that i've talked to about reps, etc (he didn't seem opposed to them), but have never had any real work done by him. he has a solid watchmaker background though (he's from germany and has a 'masters' degree in watchmaking). dt
  17. VP = vice president. commonly used in the US as the title for an important business person (note also that one company can have many vice presidents). dt
  18. man it sucks when crap like this happens. so hard to keep a good perspective in the face of utter frustration. makes you want to run over someone with a bicycle dt
  19. for a simple example of why it is so hard to get everyone to get together to make a "perfect" replica -- check out the santos 100 dial project here. that thread has 95 posts and is (unfortunately) still not even close to making it happen.
  20. interesting. i'm totally different -- i hardly never wear the same watch more than two days in a row. i like the change; i generally wake up and put on whatever sounds good that morning. but generally, i do take into consideration what i'm wearing that day and try to pick a watch that matches. here are my general trends: -dressed up (especially if wearing a suit) = santos 100, navitimer or pam 183 -business casual (khakis & button down shirt) = pam 111h or submariner -casual (jeans, etc) = chrono avenger, pam 217, omega po dt
  21. for what it's worth, joshua's new pam 212 found here is with the new 28.8 bph asian 7750 movement and AR coated sapphire crystal. i've been eyeing the 212 for a while now; it's taking every bit of discipline i've got not to buy one right now.
  22. @devedander, don't give up yet! you WILL get top notch service from our dealers. patience is a virtue, particularly with replica watches -- just wait till you order your first watch and wait for it to arrive -- it's torture. ask joshua a direct question about a particular watch (ie. does your chrono avenger listed here have a good, noticeable AR coating?) and i would be extremely surprised if you did not get a response. i have a navitimer from joshua; the AR coating isn't very noticeable (you can see a faint coating at certain angles though). my chrono avenger, on the other hand, has very noticeable AR coating. hope this helps, dt
  23. i just watched last week's grey's, and i took a good look at the watch -- i would guess preston's watch is a 196. it's a chronograph and has markings on the bezel. dt
  24. no one seems to want to answer your question, huh? i have a breitling chrono avenger with good AR coating. joshua sells a chrono avenger here; i'd ask him if this one has good AR. dt
