    My Calis

Thanks everyone. Regarding the caseback, I got it from a member. But I'm not sure where he got it from. The case set looks to be from DSN but the caseback possibly from VDB...since his watches are the only watches I've seen with these casebacks...guess he can confirm.

    My Calis

Hi guys, Just completed another...I'd like to share with you my Cali. Vintagized/Relumed dial and hands. I still managed to screw up the hands but did my best to save it. The case/plexi was also vintagized. For this one I decided to use a solid think caseback. On to the pics... First shot next to my VDB Cali The one I worked on... Since this is a closed case back I went with a Swiss 6497... Thanks for looking
  4. Seems the quality and workmanship was a step up compared to what we have now. For example, cases, case backs, crown guards, you name it. When I see parts/watches from old timers it always gets me excited. I also miss the old timers even thought they were before my time.
  5. FGD, I had 10 cases laying around all from different people. Out of these, I was lucky to find just one that fit The main difference with this case set is the really thick (and roomy) case back. The fitting of the Angelus to this case is perfect...at least in terms of depth. Another thing with this case is none of the other casebacks fit this case. It had an E-series Panerai lettering on the back but I dremelled all the letters off. I considered myself lucky to have this case...else I'd still be looking. I'm not sure where the case set came from. It's an old beatup case I picked up in the sales forum.
  6. Nice one. Great story. I have a 27A with the same seconds hands problem (dot being a bit too high). Do you know if all the older 27a and 28a had this problem? And you're right it's not too bad.
  7. Thnx. Great ideas. I might just leave it the way it is and move on to the next project. My goal was to get this cased so I'd get some use out of it. And I think I accomplished that. I've had it on now for a few days and I'm happy with the look and the movement is running strong. This was made for me by me and I guess it is what it is.
  8. Thanks 217. That's a great idea with painting it black. I may try that the next time I have it uncased.
  9. Thanks guys. I really like the sapphire/fiddy case. Very similar to my MM20 but with a cooler movement As for the lume, I ran out and didn't have enough lume to thoroughly cover the areas of the two dials. I wonder if that's how a vintage lume will really age.
  10. Thanks guys. Ubiquitous, cool pic. Good to see I got one hole right
  11. I like to share two more that I just completed. My intention was not to duplicate the gen vintage but just to have some fun The first has a cortebert 616 motor. Fiddy case with sapphire and ross dial. I always seem to mess up luming the hands Need to be more careful next time. The second has an angelus motor. My dream is a Angelus VDB but sadly I can't afford one So my only option is to try to make my own. I got the movement from a member. Paid a fair amount for it. But also had to spend additional dollars to fix broken parts and to have it serviced and cleaned. After gathering all the parts...when it came time to the actual assembly...making everything fit was a nightmare. Especially that wheel you see on the dial. I was unsuccessful at removing it myself and my watch man didn't seem interested in taking it out for me. I was very close to giving up. That wheel prevented the stem hole in the case and the movement to line up  After spending the money and time in getting the parts I was very determined to get this to work. So instead of modifying the movement to work with the dial I decided to modify the dial to work with the movement. I know she's not the prettiest Angelus...but to me she represents what this hobby is all about. On to the pics... I ran out of lume...pls excuse... Thanks for looking.
  12. Nice collection. How do you like the DSN's PVD work?
  13. It is a fake, as indicated, the caseback is a dead giveaway.
  14. Nice. 88 is definately on my wishlist.
  15. Congrats. I wish DSN offered the 27a when I picked up mine. Super sweet watch right there.
  16. So I was a bit bummed with the purchased of this troubled 27A. But now the problem is resolved. I want to thank The Zigmeister for his help. Some problems are best left to the experts. And boy did he fix up my baby. Not only was the movement repaired, it was serviced, I also had vintage lume done, and crown guard modification done. I am as happy as I can be. Thanks to The Zigmeister. Pictured on a MP strap.
  17. Yay sites back up and looking nicer than ever. Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I've always admired the Vintage pieces posted here...especially the movements. It was challenge to myself to build one. I did put a lot of money into getting these. I would never consider these investments :-) Regarding the comments of me getting these off of ebay, I want to say that I avoid ebay like the plague. I totally despise ebay. Been screwed over many times. Majority of these movements were purchased from a friend. I also feel the same about PP but I have no choice with this one. Currently, I am working on putting together the Angelus. I believe I have all the materials I need to assemble. And the test fitting worked out nicely. But this is a lot more work than the corteberts. Hats off to those that have done this.
  18. I'd like to share with you 3 projects I finally got around to completing. Learned a whole lot and most importantly had an awesome time doing it. When creating these vintage pieces, my goal was not to make these pieces an exact copy as the real thing. That's left up to the experts. Heck, I'm happy the hands I put in actaully stayed on the movement Of course there were those unexpected events, i.e. hands don't fit, movement don't fit, messing up the vintage lume, dial too think, etc. But fortunate for me, and with the help from others, I was able to get around it. Thanks to you all. On to the pics... The motors... The vintage family... And for the future projects... Thanks for looking.
