Hi all,
I've been listening to the ticking sounds of my mechanical watches recently (both gen and replicas) and I noticed (not un-expectedy mind you) that each type makes very distinct ticking sounds.
For example.
My gen 16610 Submariner (new in 1992) has a very strong metallic ticking with a weaker, lower toned, kind of musical beat secondary sound.
My rep Explorer II w/ ETA movement has a weaker ticking (not so metallic sounding) with a weaker, higher pitched, musical beat secondary sound.
Not having the gen AND replica of any specific model, I was wondering if the ticking sounds of a well serviced watch could be used to help determine whether a particular watch is genuine or replica. Would all gens of a specific model always sound the same? I did some searching in this forum only, but wasn't able to find much relevant info.
What do you think?
