  1. I have a very wide taste in music. From my favorite "Classic Rock" bands like Rush, Genesis, The Who, The Doors etc, - to modern electronica. (I spent much of 90's DJ'ing in the Rave/House/Industrial-Goth scenes)

That said today I went from Genesis(Mama) album to being in a "GABBER" mood ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabber ) , and am listening to "The Prophet"

As I type this I think I will be kicking it down a notch to some "VNV Nation"

  2. Depending on how capable the guy is of using the internet, sending him astray might back fire and he could land up here anyways.

Have you considered selling him yours (after) getting a suitable replacement? Maybe that will end it. (Although I appreciate you not wanting to have the same watch as him either).

I like the eBay thing. -or- if you really don't think he will seek one out and take you at your word, just say with "ACTA", everyone is running scared and getting shutdown. Tell him to go to Canal St, or China.

  3. My first impression was :Jumpy:.

Then I stared at it for awhile and simply can not figure out why Rolex/Tudor went with an hour marker bezel. :yuk: Useless. I am also guessing it is fixed despite have what looks like a texture for turning.

This really needs a correct Tachymeter bezel.

On the plus side, I am glad they left off the Cyclops @ 6.

    Just my .02.

  4. @Freddy333 - Just for you... The human brain is something else...

Daniel Paul Tammet is a British high-functioning autistic savant gifted with a facility for mathematical calculations, sequence memory, and natural language learning. He was born with congenital childhood epilepsy. Experiencing numbers as colors or sensations is a well-documented form of synesthesia, but the detail and specificity of Tammet's mental imagery of numbers is unique. In his mind, he says, each number up to 10,000 has its own unique shape and feel, that he can "see" results of calculations as landscapes, and that he can "sense" whether a number is prime or composite. He has described his visual image of 289 as particularly ugly, 333 as particularly attractive, and Pi as beautiful. Tammet not only verbally describes these visions, but also creates artwork, particularly watercolor paintings, such as his painting of Pi. (source: 15 Real life Super Heros)

  5. So, I began to wonder -- in a broader context -- what makes an object (excluding the human body) sexy? What makes a watch sexy as opposed to cool or pretty?

I agree on the term being used as simple non-definable slang. I will never forget the time I was in an Apple store and some hipster referred to Mac's as "sexy". Ummmm, not a word I would use to describe a computer.

However, anthropomorphizing in the automotive world is age old. You can look to headlights as eyes, rear quarter panels as hips, etc.

(For the life of me I can't find the design study/actual pose)

The Porsche 356/911 basic body style shape for example was derived from a classic nude pose. See below picture (this is not THE pic, this is the best I could manually come up with - the original classic nude has the woman more heads down, knees up. You would know it if you saw it, and after seeing it, you will never look at the car the same).

    Actually more like this pose:

So that is one example of "seeing" sexy in something for me. It is perhaps subconscious, and actually related to the female/human form.

The other possibility with "Sexy" is association. I will use my sister for an example. Back in the late 70's early 80's she was in love Magnum P.I / Tom Sellek. In Magnum he drove a Ferrari 308. Because she thought he was sexy or had sex appeal, the car therefore was sexy.

Our brains make some amazing connections.

  6. :g: Not impressed. I think the new subs are too blocky. Personally, I don't care for the lugs or crown guards. Add the maxi dial to the mix, the protruding pearl-- the proportions just don't look right to me.

:good: on the new DJs. Especially for the ladies.

At first glance, I was super excited about the Tudor's, but the the "hour indicator" 1, 2, 3, bezel? :yuk: Put a Tachy bezel on there, or even a usable diver/timer bezel.

  7. Do you have a Socket Wrench set?

Use a 12 point socket that is large enough to slip over. If you are afraid of scratching, use some plastic wrap or electrical tape on the socket. For leverage use a small block of wood, or hockey puck between your hand and the socket.

  8. As Lani indicated USPS issues, and Hike and I experienced, and there was a similar thread from JustasGood having similar Postal issues.

In the last year I have experienced:

1.) Received an "empty" envelope that should have contained a strap from EMS/USPS (Tape was peeled back and strap stolen)

2.) Sent HikeUSA a watch +parts, box was smashed/opened, watch stolen parts remained. (my loss, I ate ~$250)

3.) Lazy Postal workers who FORCE the trip to the post office for pickup if Signature is required. (They won't ride elevators to attempt delivery)

4.) USPS Returned to me one of their Priority Flat Rate envelop stating "This is not a flat rate envelope" Uhhh, yes it is/was, and resent and it was fine.

5.) Made me come to the post office for "Postage Due" on a greeting card that had TWO .45 cent stamps on it. PO apologized when they saw the two stamps.

Personally, I am seriously thinking of going UPS/FedEx for my CONUS shipments.

  9. Pre-Pay / Pre-Loaded / Gift Credit Card. Not sure if they are available in the UK, but here in the US you can pick them up in most grocery stores and put up to $500 on them.

Some CC's also offer single use unique card numbers tied to your regular account.

  10. (Funny, I am going down the same road :whistling:)

Personally, I love them. There was FUD going around about them not being 100% Swiss, not sure if at some point that was true, but looks like that rumor has been squashed. If you want a reliable, ETA based, genuine watch with a great heritage, and a warranty, go for it!
