THe company doing my crystal say that the finish is tested in military applications without damage and is resistant to oil also. If you go to the Carl Zeiss webpage it states that the protected finish hardens the crystal so maybe technology has moved on in recent times.
Nice to see a dealer with a good after sales option. I recived one of these crystals and as the jeweller says, no contact should have to be made with the inside layer. Care is needed with these crystals when cleaning them before install.
Opthalmic companies use a hydrophobic layer to toughen the finish but I doubt the asian factories do the same. Maybe David can tell us how it is applied.
THe company who is doing my AR told me that coating one side will stop 96% of reflection but coating both will provide 99% anti reflection and as far as I know the gen 187 is double coated.
Awesome, this is my favourite PANNY!!!!!!!!! just needs a brown alligator strap and off we go!!
I have always wondered why they could not copy this as the gen uses a 7750 modded movement.
Great stuff
My crystal is not going too well. The optical guy says the crystal has a haze finish on the inside surface and needs to be polished to get a perfect ARcoating on both sides.
@titoune11299
Have you had yours coated on both sides?
I bought this watch a couple of weeks ago from a TRC member who had already superlumed the watch and fitted a Lello crown and today I received my DAvidsen AR coated Sapphire crystal.
The result is superb. It is probably not as effective as an OEM Panerai AR coating but still good for a rep. The clarity is far superior and the lume really shines which you will see in the pic. It is not even in a dark room!
The quality of the crystal is far better plus it is slightly thinner but fitted perfectly in the case with no need to remove the bezel, just the movement. I recommend this to anyone with a non AR model.
David is sending me one of the AR coated crystals for my PAM 005 and I have been told they very good so I'll post as soon as it is fitted and give my opinion too. Hopefully some time next week it will arrive.
Just to add that after stripping down my 187 to AR coat the crystal it would appear the date pusher hole is right through the case so the possibility is there for a 7753 movement.
Well spotted Maciek. I usually use my little A3 everyday
I'm going to remove the bezel and sort that little problem out but I would be very suprised if any genuine guys would notice as it is only we reppers that spot things like that.
I've had 5 genuine Seamasters and it has never crossed my mind as to the direction or position of the bezel indents.
I'm with you now!! you mean the bezel not the insert. I never noticed that and would never have!
Yes this one does have the sapphire back. It has the gold movement with a silver rotor that I swapped over so it looks a bit better.
Today I stripped down my 187 from EL in order to try and successfully ARcoat the crystal. It is very thick as you can imagine and has a foil circle fitted on the back . I have found an optical coating company here in the U.K. that can do this but only on the surface rather than the inside of the crystal. They apply a standard spectacle AR then a hydrophobic and oleophobic top coat. What ever that means.
I will let you all know if it is a success. It is not very expensive and I will ask if they can coat both sides.
Here's a couple of pics of the crystal.
Received this beauty today from a TRC member. It has been super lumed and fitted with a Lello Crown upgrade.
It is the first watch I have had with a lume upgrade and WOW is it bright. It glows just like a gen Pan now.
I intend fitting one of David's AR coated sapphire crystals and then it will be just about perfect with the exception of the cannon whatsit!
Here are two pics. The 2nd one shows the lume even in daylight albeit behind a cupboard door!
I stripped out my EL 187 when putting a new date wheel in and there is no provision for the date pusher, it is purely cosmetic.
This watch is made suprisingly cheap because another dealer other than Eddie has offered it me at a ridiculous low price showing how cheap it is. I'm waiting for a company here in the U.K. to tell me if they will AR coat my crystal making it a far better looking rep.
My watchsmith who removed the hands so I could get the dial off was quite impressed with this new movement and lubricated it for me while I was there. THe chrono worked well before I removed the transfer gears.
I have been looking at Ofrei's selection of oem crystals and only 2 are AR so I guess it is one of them. Does anyone know which one it might be as I obviously don't have a case number to go by.
I think it is this one: OME - 062SA3008
but this one is mentioned too. OME - SA3025
Any help would be great guys. Thanks.
It is a shame as the AR is very obvious but only because we know it should have it. Others I have spoken to who have made comment on this watch have no idea about that.
