never got into wind surfing.. Nash.. here has a thriving biz with these beasts .... they usually pss off the traditional surfers with the wake they leave messing up the incoming swells .. tow in surfing is "the " extreme ride 60 plus wave face.. Jaws... incredible..
biggest I rode was 15 plus with occasional 20+ .. we measure the wave from the back .. "the correct way", not the way they figure it now with the wave face..
my partner once rode Waimea Bay 30 plus... big gun board.. he said you could see all the way into the valley when taking off.. no time for hesitation with North Shore sets.. some buddy's have been all over the World on tour.. Brazil.. Australia.. they now have their own Surf Contest here now.. and their kids are world class.. surf contest even in France..
But we had a great generation of the pure sport.. no "leashes" back in the day.. you loose your board and it's a swim, and rip currents on the North Shore and neighbor islands are wild.... it was better for the rotation with no leash .. drop in on someone and be ready for a brawl in the water, unless you were a "regular" at that spot.. then you ruled.. or get your knee taken out when someone shoots their board into you..ahh the good ol days..
i remember busting a balsa board of a pro when he wacked my knee after he dropped in several times.. still remember those carefree day's of youth..
