update 7/17/08 The crystasl arrived today (saphire w/saphire mag .. I am currently soaking it in 100% pure acetone.. this will take longer than the heat.. but I just want to see how long it will take.. if we do go ahead and get 20 I don't know if I want this in the house .. highly flammable for one .. two is the fumes although I have it covered I would have to get a air tight glass container for that amount of crystals .. so we'll see.. I have less than 2 weeks before they have to get to chief in Cali.. so we need to make a decision on these ASAP.. cost would be 20 usd per that is for a 20 pax buy ... the acetone if I use it.. (i will spring for) add a dollar for express shiping ... 21.00 usd each mag removed and shiped to chieftang We can decide if chief wants a self addressed envelope for return of these to you .... It is 2.5 magnification and 7 mm ... it is saphire.. and a bit thinner than what is on the GMTIIc Rep.. Now it's up to you guy's OK... the mag is saphire and I did remove it..... I will have to find a place to do the acetone it is not good to do indoorsw.. and just with one crystal and a couple of ounces of Acetone 100% pure the fumes are too toxic.... I used heat but part of the datejust crystal where it in the case set is plastic.. so heat is an option but the plastic has to be cut off first.. the problem with the acetone is finding a container .. may have to see a chem lab.. the acetone once released to oxygen reats and expands .. sort of like giving off gases and a regular container makes me nervous.. I have a reply to the group buy concerning the crystal with mag (saphire) 2.5x I was quoted 20 usd ea. for 20 pcs, (I am trying to get this price a little lower) ..... normal price would be @37.00 ea. more for outside Conus and add 7.00 for each additonal order per customer (vendor charges 7.00 for each order regarless if it goes in the same parcel).. more for outside Conus .. if more are ordered then obviously the price will lower. this is shipping included in the price .. I have ordered one to verify correct mag and size it should be here probably beggining of next week ... I will see if it the mag will detach from the crystal . etc. what I need to get is an estimate on is who will commit to this ?? .. it will be shipped to me... payment could be half and the balance on shipping to chief .......... what margin for error... ie. efects if any ?? ....I am not looking to turn a profit but I don't want to pay out of pocket either We need to collectively iron these things out.. if I recieve them and average 5 mag removals a day then by chiefs next run we should be ready.. but this would be 2 limit per member .. I would even like 1 per member but we need to discuss some spares to be sent to chief for redundancy.. We need to collectively plan this ... if the $$ amount gets to high for the initial purchase then that needs to be adjusted And I would like a third party .. either freddy or Terry.. to be "in charge of the payments... guy's i have a full plate and need some "team" help in kepping things straight.. So chief needs to give us a "rough" E.T.A. for his next run .... just so I know I have 2 months (as an example) There will be a cut off for ordering... since I need to make payment to the vendor I would like this to be for Chiefs AR run only .. but it numbers are not TOO crazy and it is managable then we can "discuss" my doing more removal.. it will take purchasing a soldering iron on my part and maybe one of those sugical clamps .. should be all the tools necessary to do this..not a big deal.. it is almost half off the normal price.. so we can make it work.. The mag in question is not saphire.. although sold to watchsmiths and used on genuine Rolex watches it is mineral glass ... we need saphire for this to work.. My apologies .. to the members after double checking with the crystal department this is what I ws told today.. i was tole=d differently yesterday but I assume respnosibility for the erroneous info There are 2 more sources to check out .. the original one I had in mind .. but those mags will have to be removed from the crystal .. i will order one today to verify correct magX see if they will detach from the xtal. however this is considerably $$.. but I am trying to work out a group buy More to follow.. and again my apologies forgetting your hopes high.. it really comes down to the use of the piece.. and your own acid level.. everyone is different.. the RG is gorgeous but the SS .. you don't have to be concerned at all...just how much do you want to invest ? and do you know a jeweler who can plate ?

the width is off.01 and the L .09 .. must be variation to every mag... it's hard to imagine these reps to be exactly alike..

please do continue..so it's not all conjecture by us that really are just reading into the gullability (is that a word. it is now ) of what our government "wants" us to believe.. add: .. it is being worked on to turn the cane feilds to ethanol production.. but that won't stop the powers that be.. Point taken..I misunderstood.. thought you were saying the whole US is regulated ..by the Feds. and yes I agree you cannot compare Europe and the USA in the same breathe.. there are a lot of differences which make a huge difference.. from health care to housing... But the talk for me is not just Gasoline and cars.. we ..on this "tiny island' depend on container ships for everything.. where on the mainland alot of items are trucked in .. ours "cost" much more once they hit the shelves .. the cost of living is higher and the pay curve all the way up to the proffesional level is less.. that is what we call "the price of paradise" so let me clear up that we are not "complaining" because the locals that moved away have found the ultimate solution to Hawaii's economy .. we have geothermal research going on .. alternative fuel supplies .. in which a researcher has found as was recognized for his findings in an alternative fuel... we have local companies who have developed the electric/gas hybrid... that would get over 100 mpg .. so what .. as long as the Big Corporations block it's progress.. we are still stuck on Petrol ... everything from apples to oranges .. goes up daily with the price of oil.. So yes .. I agree it's not about cars or public trans at all ... but that's the first thing people think of when they think of America.. because we have been the glutons of fuel ..

I think rolex sources these ..they may come from different optical companies.. after all it's not like their movement parts... so keep signing up and if these are not genuine but are genuine to specs.. then it's still good..as long as it's 2.5x with the same dimensions then it's a win, win...

Each state is Autonomous when it comes to the taxes at the pump .. the public trasprtation is not run by the federal government .. American muscles cars can be the original to the present Corvette.. IMO.. Impala's .. Mustangs still pack a punch with their engines.. my company cargo van needs about 40 usd per day ... your V10 must get 5mpg when your hauling... sheesh... we're not talking your family SUV here..

We're developing the windmills .. (now huge propellers for energy) but the sociological impact ..... the social changes.. I might suggest this .. Limit the orders for these that are going to be AR'd to 2 a piece for now .. and I will have a sample in hand by the end of the week for pics with it on a crystal and magnifying the font ... but I am confident that if Sharon tells me their all good it will be just that.. no payment for orders until they are ready to be shipped to you I will pay for the shipping to chief in bulk but members need to send a self addressed envelope with postage on it to chief..or to me .. then I can send everything out at once.. just some suggestions... I imagine they would fit all the Sub models .... copy that freddy !!.. at least this way there's no down time on the watches while they are being coated ... and actually if chief ok's it,.. it can go out all at once from Hawaii .. makes more sense than 20 or 30 different envelopes..

Correction on the genuine... the rep matches it though.. the large is 6.9 x 5.5 ... the rep should be this too... kinda hard without calipers .. which I am frustrated enough without to order it today also.. !! So we are good .. yes freddy the dimension on the rep is off .10 on the width and .06 on the legnth... so we will be getting the genuine mag which is PERFECT!!!

remember that the rep sizes may not match the genuine.. the GMTIIc was taken from the genuine as sample and the Rolex (Genuine) has 3..(now 4) definative sizes there is no cyclops in the genuine that measures 5.65 x 6.96 .. illustrating the difference in accuracy with the mags.. IMO ..... so the 5.65 width is off by .10 and the legnth off by .06 correction.. the legnth on the genuine Large is 6.9 .. by my crude measurement,... the rep is this too.... ...

2 will get you 5 that it will be 6.5 x 5.5

Ok.. Rolex has 4 sizes and the GMTIIc fits only one size according to my crude measurements.. but it is the closest to the large.. which is 6.5 x5.5 ... again this is the genuine rolex cyclops.. edit add: correction 6.9 x 5.5 the others are small... 4.4 x3.5.. ladies med. ...5.5 x 4.5 and XL .. which would not even come close at ...8.0 x 5.8 the only dimension that comes close is the large ... I'm going to check to see haow many are in stock .. and if just a hand ful I'm grabbing them.. again no need for removal these are the genuine mags alone..@ 2.50 usd .. less than a cup of coffee..so if I loose some $$ .. it's all good..
