I've just ordered a high beat Explorer I from Josh's site. This may be blasphemy but I'm not a big fan of metal bracelets, so I'm thinking Black Croc with white stitching from IWI - any other suggestions? PS: Anyone else get this watch? Are there any comments or reviews specifically against Josh's version? I've already ordered, based on the pics, the shipping and the fact that it's got the asian hi-beat movement, just curious at this point.

I've grown to hate verified by VISA. Almost every online shop which takes credit cards requires it. The VbV page never has any bank branding so would be easy to spoof. The password can be reset any time and doesn't make it harder to enter a fraudulent charge. The conditions of VbV are that YOU rather than VISA are responsible for the security (and take the cost of any misuse). It's just a scam by Visa to move all the risk from themselves to the customer.

Are there any cheap gens with quality parts which would fit reps? I'm thinking crystals with good AR, hands, bezels, lume dots etc.

I think the markings should be gilt on a gen - as for complaints, it's hard to say...for me, the question would be if it matches the photos on the dealers site, not if it matches the gen. If you buy something and it's what you ordered then I'd say that's a fair deal. The colour does look different but maybe with the right lighting (or photoshop filters) it could be made to match so really it's down to you. Even if it matched the site pics exactly it's not going to look gen without a little repainting and vintaging so I'd tend to let it go but on the other hand that's a pretty premium price. Flip a coin?

I'm interested too - but would widen it to anywhere in the UK or Ireland for rep-friendly pressure testing, AR and re-luming. If the watch wasn't a rep then I'd try http://www.chealwatch.co.uk/ but he seems too close to the manufacturers to risk working on reps.

Very few people care about watches, out in the real world. 90% of people around my office have black plastic lcd watches. If anyone asks, or just admires the watch, I will say it's a replica (I may even use the word 'fake') because I like the watch but can't justify the price tag. The few people I've had this conversation with were more curious than anything else. So far it has been very few people because I've more 'homage' watches or vintage brands no-one recognises. My view is a nice looking watch is a nice looking watch whatever it costs and I'm quite proud when I find a bargain.
