  1. You have been on this forum for over a year so please forgive me for asking this question .. but .. you did wind it 30 turns by hand, yes? You are not simply wearing it and hoping for the winding mechanism to do all the work?
  2. Any good watch repair shop has a water resistance tester. Do not just trust your replica to be water tight. Have it checked
  3. The Katt is in the Midwest, and is an outstanding basic watch repair/mod person. He is extraordinarily reasonable and friendly. He is an trusted watchsmith on RWI. Last year he repaired and serviced a Seagull ETA clone for me for $85 shipped and paypal'd .. photo updates, and emails returned cheerfully. There is a RWG trusted modder/watchsmith in Florida as well. Vacuum!! He is a little mysterious .. replying in one-word cryptology .. but he's very good. So while in my opinion Zig is the God of forum trusted watchmakers, he's not the only one in North America. Send him your items which require his skills, and justify the use of his time. Send your common repairs to someone with a more open schedule. Sound reasonable ??

    DSSD

mm I spoke with Rolexfinder at length about this several months ago. Maybe a year ago. He suggested we leave the name the same, out of respect for Chris, for getting this watch made. He said we all fail sometimes, and we all go there but for the grace of God. I tend to agree.

    DSSD

Uh ... "BK" is a respected modder on this forum and others. What he does is buy replica watches and then modifies them, and re-sells them in their improved condition. Think of it like an AMG Mercedes or a Callaway Corvette ... you are paying for the base watch and for BK's labor, parts and expertise. That is why it costs. You are buying a modded watch "as new". I should really write a STICKY FAQ about this one day. Here goes: NoobFactory = Cartel = BK's base watch (UNMODDED) = TimesShop ... these are all the same watch. It's called the v5 Ultimate but that's a poor decision on Josh and Andrew's part. There was already a factory making a DSSD called the V5 .. so way to go, guys .. super confusing. People who know, just call it the Noobfactory DSSD. TrevorTime sells the real v5 model. It is unique. The MBK v6 is also unique and it's still rare.
  6. Different repair people have different pricing schedules. A Gen watch would cost you triple those numbers to service, remember. I don't know who you are paying $400 to service your watch but you might want to look around. The Zig man (one of our finest artisan watch people) will do a complex 7750 chrono for close to your low number .. nowhere near your high number. That's just crazy talk
  7. I can only assume that the DST checkboxes do nothing. Ive set them, unset them, waited a day, set them again ... no change in the observed posting times. thanks.

    DSSD

The three high quality DSSD versions available right now are ALL good products with minor variations between them ... it's strictly a personal judgment call when you pick one of them. Noobfactory Ultimate ETz 2010v5 MBK v6 Just choose the one you like best. They are all good. As for movement options .. get a clone ETA.
  9. People yell "USE MARY" to everyone who asks for a dealer's name but She's the kind of dealer best left to more confident and experienced hobbyists. Josh and Andrew are dealers with training wheels attached. She's a professional but she is also a 1 woman shop .. hand-holding eats up her time. Then the newbs complain when their "WHER IS WATCH" mail is ignored. Understand this from someone's perspective other than your own.
  10. Dont turn the bezel setting wheel in reverse! There's a directional arrow on it, if you look. You can cause the gears inside to shatter.
  11. I think perhaps Connie was misunderstanding you, or the other way around. I bet she means that the Asia Clone ETA was the best value. Absolutely no one in their right mind would say that the clone 3135 was the "best value" . That's just ridiculous.
  12. There's a great little ultrasonic cleaner shaped like an egg, on Meritline. Every month or so they put it on sale for $19 *shipped* .. the cleaner
  13. Absolutely. Any mechanical watch needs oil to work correctly, and these oils evaporate or become sticky gum after 5 years. The movements in these watches have been sitting in a dirty warehouse for god knows HOW long before the watch was built and shipped to you. So ... locate the closest trustworthy watch smith to your home, and use them. You'll be good to go for another 5 years afterwards. Every mechanical watch (even gen!!) needs service. Are these watches Clone or Swiss ETA or Asian 21j movements? What part of the World are you currently in? That will help us recommend a watch maker to you.
  14. So it's chrome plate over a brass case? Or is it gold plate on copper?
  15. A21j does not mean low beat. It's a catch-all phrase used to describe a lot of movements. The 4813 and the 2813 are the two most reliable and common A21j movements, and the 4813 is 28.8K beats. The 2813 is the low beat version. BTW these are clones of the rock-solid Japanese Miyota branded movements, and as far as I am aware you can swap a Chinese DG 4/2813 out and drop in the real Japanese part.
  16. It was announced 11 days ago that Mary is (was) in the hospital for surgery.
  17. God help us all if the factory has a large batch of bad dials. They won't fix it until they sell all the bad dials. This has happened before.
  18. Absolutely yes. It's an ultimate edition 42mm model. Many many excited posts with photos are to be found here.
  19. Yes you are correct. If you search, there are many excited reviews of this new gem.
  20. Why not just ask BK? He's famous for his fair dealings.
  21. As far as I am aware, the only prevalent issues were with the Correct Hand Stack models. ICHS models are fine.
  22. Mary just had an operation performed. A note in her area explains this.
  23. admittedly a confusing sentence; inflection is lost in text. This person is asking if there is an ambiguity regarding factory versions on the Dealer web sites. The different factory versions are listed separately at Dealers, since the different factory versions normally sell for different price points. There will be a listing for the NoobFactory DSSD as well as for the DSSD v6, for example. A listing for the UPO and a listing for lesser Planet Ocean variants. I noticed, as well, that Josh has started using the term "H Factory" in his descriptions. That's about as obvious as it gets.
  24. You can order the model you want from the factory you want. It's not a grab-bag.
