Build quality is excellent on the WM9's. On my old WM9, I went so far as to install a genuine crystal, complete bezel assembly, crown etc. These parts fit without any need for modification- The case is essentially the same design as the genuine. Prior to the WM9, the only other Sub replicas that would accept gen parts were the MBK/MBW's, and even then some pieces had to be tweaked a bit to fit.

With regards to the gen 42mm, the coin edge is correct- The scalloped edge bezel would be more correct for the 45mm PO in terms of comparing to gen. If you prefer one over the other based on aesthetics alone, it makes no difference what's correct or not. If you're looking for accuracy comparing the replica to gen, the coin edge would be the one to get for the 42mm model... If you like the scalloped bezel, Narikaa sells a nice, low cost asian movement PO with that particular bezel fitted. For the money, it's a great value... hackr's review on his narikaa PO: Linky.

For this project, you'll need a case that is specific to the El Primero. Aftermarket cases typically sell for around $1100 - $1700 depending on how complete the package is. Some are just the midcase and caseback; complete kits include the case, caseback, crystal, bezel gaskets, crown, tube, pushers, aftermarket dial and hands set...

I understand your position and view on this as well, and agree- These situations can be a bit sensitive as discussion topics. However, I am sure that there were plenty of questions and rumors floating about regarding the issues at hand and I don't think any harm was intended by this thread; more than anything, I think it was a pre-empted effort to help clear the air before things got out of hand; it doesn't take long for rumors to spiral out of control and I think it's good to get both sides of the story out in the open instead of letting people speculate as to what transpired. As an aside, I do hope that some of the RWI regulars decide to spend a little more time here as well. It's been nice having some new faces about and great discussions as well!

If you give the watch a couple of easy, slow winds at the crown, does the balance start to oscillate? The Daytona... Hard to say. I think if the running seconds at 6:00 are disabled, it may have a good chance of being repaired. But these are notorious for failing due to their modified construction.

As a neutral forum, and with several members from RWI visiting while their home is being rebuilt, I don't see any reason why this sort of topic can't be discussed here?

Your wristie is deceiving You make this watch look smaller than it really is! But I know otherwise! This is a rather serious chunk of steel! I had given one of these a try sometime ago (though not with the ETA), only to discover that it's thick case was a bit too top heavy for my wrist. However, your fantastic pics make me think that perhaps I should give this one another go... Hmmm... Do I dare?

The only upside to having a super tight fit on the pins is that you can be confident that these buggers won't slip out with every day wear... Now that you've got some of the pins removed, you'll find that pressing them back in isn't much more fun

Sizing a PO bracelet is a difficult job, to be sure. Those pins are in there tight! What's more, the gen bracelet's pins are even tighter. When I sized mine, I had to take it in to a jeweller to do it. Even had him cussing up a storm.

I suspect it's because they're still selling plenty of those 116520 V7750 seconds at 6:00 time bombs What people here really want is a low cost, reliable alternative that looks good. The 116520 rep is very pretty to look at, but unless you do a graphite and/or DLC mod, it will be nothing more than a nice paper weight before long. I'm not entirely sure that the new A7750 with the Zenith style subsidiary spacing will be a reliable alternative either; I wonder if anyone has sent this movement into Zig yet for a tear down/analysis yet? My first suggestion, if you want a reliable and accurate Daytona inside and out is to build. Otherwise, there aren't many options for accuracy and reliability. If you look at the 'Watches, Clothing & Accessories' sub forum, River has an El Primero 400 movement, genuine dial and hands for offer right now to build a similar project. You'll still need a proper case and bracelet, but that's a substantial portion of the project right there in one shot...

The yuki dials aren't great, per se, but they're really the only option out there that I've seen (yuki's are the same as phong's). The biggest detail issue is the spacing between the outer chapter and the hour indicies. Regardless, it's decent enough to use for a project if you don't mind the slight flaws... Obtaining a gen dial is likely to be near impossible to find and if/when it does turn up, rest assured it will be very, very pricey (remember, the gen is a $25k watch, and quite rare ). I've looked at doing this very watch a few times myself. I will get around to it sometime... When I'm not sidetracked by other projects
