Yay! 40 big ones!! Happy happy birthday. I'll celebrate by enjoying this pair at the same time for a menage a trois...

Okay... Equal opportunity... chubbchubb- Thanks for your kind words Very, very much appreciated! Out of all of my watches, these two require the most to maintain. Servicing the El Primeros are one of my concerns, though luckily we have Zig who I have 100% trust in handling my watches and can help in that regard. I suppose that one of my main reasons for wanting to maintain a small collection is primarily because of the cost of servicing and maintenance. I always wonder what guys with 100+ pieces in their collection do to handle upkeep of their watches?

You need a 4th generation 42mm PO, like the one in that link.
-
Oops... DL beat me to the punch! Some 4th generation models will accept with no mods. Some do require mods. If you have the one from Narikaa or the so-called 5th generation with the scalloped edge bezel, the gen bezel will not physically fit...

Loads of new Ulysse Nardins released!
ubiquitous replied to edgematic1's topic in General Discussion
I somehow feel let down by the new UN offerings... Maybe my expectations were too high? After the last Maxi Marine Divers, I was hoping that they'd continue the trend; it seems (at least to me) as though they took it down a few steps and gave us a piece they thought we'd 'settle' for instead of a piece we'd be extremely excited about... Or, maybe my perception is just skewed... -

I feel I'm being ripped off, what's my course of action?
ubiquitous replied to tom10167's topic in General Discussion
In this kind of situation a cool head and patience will be of benefit to you. First off, I'd check tracking and see what current status shows. If the watch has returned and is reflecting receipt by the sender, then I'd think it should be a matter of time before they re-send. Kinda difficult to say why things can take so long to ship in transit- Lots of variables, like customs, parcel being overlooked in the delivery vehicle, or even non-legible handwriting on the address/return address. Who knows? I will say that good communication from the seller is important to keep his buyer/customer informed along the way; then you don't have someone stressing over the status of their purchase. Just a quick email or PM goes a long way in calming one's worries... But if the watch is still in transit back to the seller, you have to remember that it's currently out of their control and there's not much they can say at the moment either... -
Can I replace an A7750 movement?
ubiquitous replied to William Campbell's topic in General Discussion
Lots of variables in this equation. 1) Is your watch set up like a standard 7750 (e.g. subdials at 12:00/9:00/6:00) or is this a tri-compax set up (e.g. 9:00/6:00/3:00)? 2) Are you looking to replace a slow or quick beat A7750 with another A7750? Or Swiss? 3) If you have no watch repair experience, I would advise that you not attempt this movement swap if this is a watch you like and want to keep. This exchange would be a little more straight forward if you have the standard 7750 configuration, as at least then a Swiss ETA 7750 is a 1:1 replacement from a physical standpoint; forget it if you have the tri-compax and are looking to swap in a 7753. The issue of which A7750 you have may be a point of concern as not all hand types are compatible with the Swiss 7750. Count on the hands not being a direct fit; you will need the subsidiary hands reduced at the tubes to fit the pins and the center stopwatch seconds hand will need to be broached. There is a difference between the pinions used on the slow beat vs. the new quick beat; and even then, the lines are blurred as some hybrids of the two exist as well. There's no way of knowing what you have until the pins are measured, or if you try and fit hands and they don't work. If you are unfamiliar with the process of uncasing/removing or handling a movement, you may be in for more than you bargained for. Aside from that fact, it is important to have the right tools; if you do not, you stand to do far more damage than good. My advice- Farm this one out unless you are familiar with the process and have the necessary tools to perform the work. You'll save yourself a lot of grief... -
Where are all the guys that claim to be able to spot a rep from 10ft away?
-
sander- Not sure if this helps, but here is a dial side view of the DD module AP uses on the 2226 in all it's glory: Granted, it doesn't have the plate over the top that the RBII does... But maybe it will help answer some questions? I've circled some of the details that I thought you'd be interested in on the pic...
-
If you bought the watch a year ago, I think it might be relevant to know whether the issues have always existed, or if this problem is a new development. Also, it might be of benefit knowing which movement you have inside the case.
-
Look at the details, folks. The hands, the markers (shape, finish, lume color)... Bezel teeth, etc. Fit, finish and the fine details. Speaking of details; someone's watch is either 5 minutes fast or 5 minutes slow

Guys... Nothing's going anywhere just yet I should add that I do a collection evaluation/contemplation/consideration probably twice a year. This is where I sit down, look at what I have, take into consideration of what I wear, what I don't wear, what needs to be serviced next, what needs new parts, which pieces cost more to service, and finally what stays and what goes. I like to keep the collection small and tightly focused; no more than 10 in the box at any one time (and ideally, maybe a little less than that even). It's getting to the point where I'm having difficulty in choosing any sell pieces; this to me means that I've settled down to the core keepers; that will be a problem if I start finding new things that I want to buy in light of my self imposed collection limit At any rate... A few more pics (though not quite as new)...

Do these movements need serivicing?
ubiquitous replied to William Campbell's topic in General Discussion
Agreed with dluddy's recommendation; all mechanical watches will need servicing at some point or another. An overhaul every 5 years will ensure longevity and performance. With the movements listed above, an immediate servicing may not be necessary. Wear the watch upon receiving it; if you notice that the watch is gaining or losing a significant amount of time over a 24 hour period, cannot sustain a reasonable power reserve with a full wind or is exhibiting strange behavior or simply doesn't work, that should be enough of an indication that an overhaul/service is needed. -
Man... I never thought I'd see the day when they'd finally get some Sinns out. I dig the U2, but what I'm really hoping for is to see a nice 756!

I think of a lot of things these days...

C'mon guys... This thing is just sad and pathetic all around. 1) Look at that dial. The indicies, the font, the print. Garbage. 2) Look at the hands... Weaksauce. 3) I thought we were the rehaut experts here! 4) I've never seen so much gasket on a crystal before! 5) Sweet -2.5x date mag! 6) Bezel insert looks like a $2 aftermarket special... 7) Bezel just sucks. CG's?! 9) I've lost track of how many of these rep crowns I've thrown in the trash... 10) End links = junk 11) Solid link bracelet... Has anyone reported this thing yet?
-
Just a few new pics... Not many... No rhyme, no reason... Except a whim on a Tuesday evening... Mostly as I contemplate the collection...

The WM9 is a good place to start for mods. And fairly easy to work with as well. One of the best choices for a modern Sub in my opinion... Good luck!
-
You have a 16610 replication. The 16800 is the older Submariner that had preceded the current 16610. Bezel inserts for 16610 and 16800 are interchangable and the official part number is of little consequence if you have an SL pearl (and not tritium).

Whoa. Nice purchase Pugs! That's a great Speedy! BTW, as an aside- Everytime I read your sig, I can't help but crack up: "I HATE PUGWASH" - Andrew, Trusty Time ROFLMAO
-
Yes... I'm eager for one as well, but am hopeful we'll see something sooner or later...

They Don't Make 'em Like They Used To
ubiquitous replied to freddy333's topic in Photo Tips, Tricks, & Tutorials...
I agree. There's only so much that a P&S can allow within it's limits. You open up a lot more flexibility with an SLR... -
Good price indeed.
