  1. Do the old tuning fork accutrons count as quartz? Quasi-quartz? If so... I'd gladly take one of those. It's on my list of watches to buy at some point when I get around to it
  2. Thanks, sir You know, the white dial in stark contrast with the PVD case... It's a very bold look! Personally, I like it a lot... Very unique. If I were to utilize my white dial for a project, it would be that same combo again. Enjoy your new acquisition!
  3. Just something I slapped together one day... It's all dismantled now though...
  4. @redwatch- The watch in the wristcheck is my own personal piece And here it is with a close friend that now resides in the 808 state... Thanks for the kind words! Congrats to the new owner! I really had a hard time packing this one up and sending it off... I didn't want to see it leave! LOL
  5. So, uhhh... what did you think about those extras I threw in? P.S. Glad you like it! Not that I was terribly worried what with those hands, dial, insert and all, but it's always nice to know that the work was up to your expectation!
  6. It's funky, strange and quite a lot of fun. Case is an old 45mm watchmaster; a rarity in it's own right I suppose. Folks from the old RWG and TRC will probably remember this one Here's a wrist shot... Strapped a Dirk on it and have to say I'm really enjoying it.
  7. Had some stuff laying around... And had an epiphany while doing a pictoral for klocklind- I was already kind of bumming around the house a bit- And figured it would be fun to do a dial refinish on an old damaged dial I had. Lume aged: Stripped dial: Refinished: Test fit to see how it will look: And everything put together: Yes, there is a big thumbprint etched into the surface I discovered it as I stripped the old paint off, and to be honest, I kind of like it. It lends to the old, aged feel, and I suppose that it could be the signature of whomever made/pressed the dial tin. Not bad for a quickie... I call it my 30 minute Radiomir
  8. Okay... I was bored and I had some stuff laying around, so I did a small pictoral... Some sandwich dials may have alignment/press pegs and holes to not only help get everything straight, but to also help keep the two halves together: Here's what it looks like split: While I had everything apart, I decided that now would be a good time to do a little customization to the lume: And strip the dial: I was going to paint the dial a matte black, but decided to go a different route instead: Yes, there is a huge thumb print etched into the surface... I thought it might bother me at first, but now I find that I don't really mind it And, there you have it Hope this helps! R
  9. Hmmm... Very interesting! Is this new movement 7750 based?
  10. The plus side with PVD on a casing is that it should be fairly resilient to scratches and the coating should be quite durable. As true gold is a relatively soft metal, swirls, scratches, dings become an issue and concern. PVD would be a worry free kind of finish, and should be fairly reasonable in price. 18k solid cases can be found if you look around- As alligoat has mentioned, yuki has them. There are also a few other sources out there as well (but all intended for gen movements a la 3055, 3155, etc). The benefit to having a solid gold case is solely in value- It may be a frankenwatch, but the gold case will have some true intrinsic worth. As an interesting side note- For anyone who has seen the SS DateJust cases on that one famous auction site, ever wonder why such cases come up for sale and in that kind of volume? It's largely because people would recase their standard SS (and in some instances TT) DJ's in aftermarket solid gold cases; the SS parts, dials, etc would then be unloaded, hence what you'd see for sale on the Bay. From what I understand, this is/was fairly large practice in the Asian regions, or so I am told...
  11. Holy sweet jeebus, folks! This thread is enough to make me scortch my shorts!! Some AMAZING T-dialed Pammy's you guys have got!! I don't have any true Trit PAMs, but I do have my FGD dialed piece. But currently living in some darker clothes...
  12. You could probably have a SS case PVD'd in the gold finish, which would (in my opinion) look very nice. It won't have the weight of gold, but that's to be expected. Or, you can build one with a solid 18k case. I see those sell regularly for between $1500 and $1800.
  13. Thanks for the kind words, MP! Unfortunately, this case would probably not fit an EP400 properly- There are some fundamental differences between the case pictured here, and a reproduction 16520 case specifically for the 400/3019/4030. The crown/stem height being the first issue, as it is indeed too low. The pushers are also an issue as they are spread too far out. I cannot venture to speculate further, but the rehaut opening looks as though it may be a bit too large. Difficult to say, as it could just be that the dial markers are more inset to the center, rather than the outer edge. Without seeing it in hand, it's nothing more than just a guesstimate on my part Overall, it's a nice looking case, and it could have some potential. I am just unsure as to whether one could build a EP400 Daytona out of this (I kinda doubt it can be done), or really what one's options would be for this particular case.
  14. Hmmmm... Based on the pics in that link, the set looks like one sold by 'Alpha Time' or something to that effect from the Bay. I picked one up sometime ago, and it's not awesome That said, I'd pass. There are better case sets out there, in my opinion... As for my case... It was a generous gesture from a good friend and fellow RWG'er. No Jimmy CG, however. I'm searching for a good replacement, though!
  15. Mon: Switch to this one later tonight... Tues:
  16. armin- This case is kind of a temporary fix- I'd prefer to be using my JimmyFzu case, as that's the project that this dial/movement combo was intended for: However, the CG on that one broke, and so that one's out of commission until I can find a decent CG worth using to replace. The PVD case that I'm using for the time being is an old school DSN case, which I've spent time polishing out with a cape cod to give it a very dulled and worn look. @coolfire- Thanks for the kind words, buddy My wife is typically a girl who likes to keep a low profile, but her weakness has always been diamonds and platinum
  17. Typically, there should be a little notch cut at 3:00, which can be used for alignment of the top and bottom layers. The strength and amount of glue can vary; some dials I've had were pretty difficult to split while others required little effort. Just one of those things that you won't know until you do it.
  18. Just measured- Her wrist size is 6 3/8"
  19. Well, it's not Maciek's girl, and it's not a 111/112, but here is my wife modelling an FGD dial'd Pre-A 009: I like the 44mm on a feminine wrist, but a proper fitting strap is essential for the combo to work well. In my case, the missus could use another hole punched to allow the strap to fit tighter, however she has no interest in wearing a PAM, so no concerns there I suppose...
  20. I've been trying to figure out which NATO I would like... It's between this and some solid colors. After seeing the pics here, I may have to follow suit, cause they look smokin' hot!
  21. I think we can make some sort of sexy happen...
  22. Well, it wouldn't be Ola, but I can see if my wife would model my FGD dialed PAM9A for you?
