Good stuff, M. Wish I was a little closer to lend a hand; I'd be more than happy to have Maciek ship the watch to me, but I dread the customs risk on a piece like this.
I love the versatility of the 16610- Looks great on an 8" wrist, as well as a 6.75" wrist
Seems to me as though you're really enjoying that WM9, eh BT? I know I love mine...
Heh... My winder is starting to die. I've run it pretty consistently for the past year or so; the motor is starting to lag and it's slowed down by a considerable amount.
Also... It's possible to see a newer bracelet retrofitted to an older serial watch as a replacement. Depends on the situation, but it's similar to having an old T dial replaced with a Lumi dial
The alarm bells should be ringing when you see an older bracelet (or dial or any other part) fitted to a newer watch.
Genius, sir Omni! Sheer genius!
Like BT, I'm not much of a drinker, but I have to imagine that an icey martini is the perfect way to finish off the afternoon while watching those gorgeous Hawaiian sunsets, eh?
Mahler-
The 2005 year seems to be a bit of a transitional period for the 93250 bracelets on these; that's why you see differences between the two. Somewhat similar to the '99/'00 transition from loose end links to SEL.
In the case of these WM9's, they are Z serial (2007) or M serial (2008), and should all come with the unmarked/unref'd final link
Usually these things go together pretty easy... I've never had any major issues or problems, and aside from my pair, I've done a few others as well
I do recall that ZZ had some trouble with stem alignment on one that he did for one of customers; I'm thinking that there might be another case out there that isn't machined to tolerance. It could also be an issue with having the date mech in place (these parts need to come off). Having that 'clutter' (heh heh ) on the dial side will cause the stem to sit too far towards the caseback.
Did this watchmaker provide specifics as to what would not fit? Or why? i.e. stem alignment issues, or...?
Never had any issues with any of my builds. I'd be curious to know what the problem was.
Indeed- You have to split the links apart and swap the SEL piece. They're pinned together by pressure; simply wedge a strong, sharp blade between the links to separate.
I used some old TW Best end links that I filed down and refinished; this produced a nice, sharp squared edge on the mid link and I found that the old TW Best SELs fit the lugs even better than the WM9's:
And some dissected SEL pics for your entertainment...
I also used the first set of outer links from the WM9 bracelet connecting to the SELs as they have the ref number omitted, which is correct for a 93250 of this era
Finish off with the WM9 clasp and call it done.
