  1. Even for a gen caliber based frankenwatch, I would not use a NOS pair like what K has. If I had a used 24-7000 tube in good shape, I'd consider using that paired with a new 700 crown, but a tube NOS in the pack is simply worth too much to use for a franken.
  2. The old CN set up with these bezels was set up with a wire tension spring, vs. the gen and MBW method of using a retaining ring for the crystal with a flat washer and tension fit bezel ring. The only thing that might be compatible between the two is the bezel insert, though I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't fit the CN without gluing anyway.
  3. Personally, I would not use the 24-700/7000 in a project watch. Rather, I would hold onto them for the time being as they are worth more NOS.
  4. I see you're putting those parts to good use, big R! As for font... I myself just went with the very standard ETA font and white datewheel, which I have seen as a replacement on a few of the 9411's out there: However, if you can find one, this is the one you really want: Silver and brushed finish with bold serif'd fonts. Hope this helps... R
  5. Lucky score, K! Those are difficult to find at a decent price these days
  6. All original 165.024: Franken 9411 with gen original dial, hands and trit pearl dot: And for grins- The above dial prior to being installed side by side with an original NOS example: PAM Pre-A 002 with ivory colored indicies on the FGD dial: 16520 Frankenstein with gen tritium dial; not very aged but tritium none the less
  7. While I wind down an extended weekend, I'm enjoying: Monday- Modded WM9: Monday evening- 16520 Frankenstein: Tuesday- The other 16520 Frankenstein: Wednesday- Self made PreA 002:
  8. That is a one of a kind gen and owned by one of the purists. It's been a collaboration project that started as an FM and has been modified and further added to by Paul Gerber...
  9. DL- The top layer is basically as-is from FGD; no changes to the surface. The only change I've technically made was affixing the top layer to an old DSN sandwich base I had laying around to have the benefit of dial feet instead of using the brass blank.
  10. Ahhh. Lord A's watch. The most complicated piece in the world, iirc and the only unique piece of it's kind. Amazing work... That one has been through a number of iterations in it's life time...
  11. Hey gang Thanks as always for the very kind words! This one has been a fun project with the help from friends... The best way to do a project! The most difficult and challenging part of this one was to get the dial lined up nice and straight. This took a couple of attempts, but I think I finally have it to a point where my OCD isn't going completely berzerker: Since finishing, I've enjoyed this watch on a near daily basis. It's a very handsome piece, and I have to admit- I have indeed been bitten by the PAM bug! Cheers! R
  12. Thanks, R! Been off the forums for a while. The last few weeks have been plagued with long hours at work compounded with a pretty nasty sinus infection. It's nice to be back
  13. After having sourced a number of nice bits and parts (HUGE thanks to my buddy kruzer) and with the release of FGD/rmc's fantastic dials, one of my all time favorite PAMs has found it's way into my collection. This particular project started with the case. After much begging and pleading, I managed to get my grimy mitts on a fantastic Jimmy case set thanks to a kind and generous friend. My original plan was to build a PAM10D, but when the new pre-V and Pre-A dials were released by FGD, all of my plans came to a halt with an abrupt change to follow accordingly. I had a nice Swiss 6497 left over from a different watch project which fit the bill nicely and also had some hands. BK gave me a much appreciated assist with sourcing the caseback (thanks, sir) and before long, I had almost everything I needed to set my project in motion. Unfortunately, and as with most any project of this nature, there were some small hurdles that needed to be sorted. The casetube was just a slight bit too tall, and I also needed to source a Tap10 6497 stem to fit the crown. So, off to Ziggy it went, and in the meantime, I packaged the guts up in an old DSN PVD case I had sitting around (though not before toning down the finish to a gun metal grey by using a cape cod ). After a very brief visit to the Ziggy spa, I had the case in my hands again with the crown tube modified, the CG lever tightened up (wow, what a difference!) and packaged with the stem I needed. Movement, dial and hands were then transferred over from the temporary case to their new home For the past month and a half, the watch looked like this Old, abandoned shelter: And onto the new... -FGD Pre-A 002/009 dial fitted to an old trimmed down DSN dial base -DSN hands -Jimmy case, bezel, crystal -Unknown CG with tightened lever -Kruzer crown -DSN 6500 caseback -6497 -Ziggy modified stem -Dirk 2nd gen PAV90 style strap (logo buckle) I've been enjoying this one on a very regular basis as of late. Quite a lot of fun to wear, and a pleasure to look at. Thanks for looking! Cheers, R
  14. I dunno... I've been staring at mine for almost a week now since it arrived in the mail. To be honest, I'm not quite sure what to think thus far... I'll have to wait until my Jimmy case is back. I'd like to do a head on comparison...
  15. I just compared a set I bought for my wife (yes, no joke, and yes, with tassles) to the ones in your pic. Yours look way too big to be pasties... Unless they're for a girl with some huge tickets.
  16. I've been solicited a number of times to help with a project, to build this or that for someone etc. And, for the most part, aside from some help and assistance that I've provided to close friends, I've never gone down that path. The problems and issues that Offshore has listed are all very probable situations that one would likely find themselves in, as the work can really get overwhelming when you have a lot of backlog building up. Add to that a few other factors like projects taking longer than usual, or requiring replacement/new parts (not all modding projects go according to plan, or with little resistance; one should always count on something at some point going awry), and it's easy to see how one's schedule can get de-railed rather quickly. Heck... I've got enough going on with my own projects at times
  17. Hmmmm... How difficult is it to unstitch and re-stitch a strap to add a SIB?
  18. Now this has some potential... Wonder what the assembly looks like under the bezel?
  19. 'Noob' is a term used to represent a specific model, or rather line of watches that come from a certain factory. You'll see all sorts of labels for rep watches around here... So many that it will make your head spin. But to be fair, it's sometimes the only way to categorize all the different variations out there. Lots of new iterations are released over the years; gotta keep track of them one way or another...
  20. I think I've got a baggie full of hands for Asian movements... Old left overs from pulling apart some noobs and converting to ETA. PM me with what you need... I'll have a look tonight. Whatever I find that is applicable to your needs will be gratis as none of it's doing me any good...
  21. The 702 crown isn't too difficult to find; either previously used or NOS in the pack. The tube on the other hand... That's the tough one to find, usually. And the crown's no good without it...
