  1. Start with an MBW/MBK 1680/5513 or 1665. These accept gen parts and the results can be quite fantastic. My most recent MBK build... A 1680 converted to a Tudor 9411 with gen parts: Old 1665, modded...
  2. In my experience, if the dial is slightly smaller than the opening at the rehaut, then yes; the dial will fall through. The movement needs the dial to help anchor itself inside the case; the stem and clamps alone aren't enough.
  3. Maybe a bit difficult to see, but here is my gen 295C on my WM9; the crystal is a service replacement with the Service 'S' in the base of the crown. All dots...
  4. I can see repping or frankensteining a 62MAS, or maybe a King Seiko, but some of those basic, low cost models? Just doesn't make sense...
  5. Nicely done! The FrankenJust is a great project to partake in so many ways; reasonably priced, fairly simple to build and the results look great! Add a Stilty adaptor, and it's just that much better. Wish he was selling those rings when I built my old 16234... It would have really come in handy... Great work!
  6. There's definitely something to be said for big watch market share While everyone's already been cashing in on this concept, I suppose that it's about time Rolex showed up to the party! Excellent point, W. ...if ever for that matter...
  7. Indeed, JoJo. There is no substitute for gen...
  8. That U1 is tastey! There's just something about those hands that makes me smitten...
  9. Hmmmm... Tempting idea. Though I am somewhat inclined to take on a project like this on my own... Minus the PRO HUNTER signed dial...
  10. I find myself especially intrigued by your VDB 3646 MM! THAT is a gorgeous piece...
  11. I have to admit that I'm still not sure what the fascination is with this one... But I can appreciate the innovation that Rolex has implemented into the design (that clasp (gen) is sweet).
  12. There's several topics on the new 16600; Have a look around and research 'SSD'... A search on this criteria should yield lots of reading material
  13. LOL... These new Deep Seas all look the same to me. Also, seems that none have the 8mm crown or 21mm lugs either... The Asian '2836' these come outfitted with is worth a chuckle or two tho.... Edit: In looking at Honpo's again, that crown does look a little bigger... So, maybe it is 8mm?
  14. Rolex has to be one of the most replicated watch brands out there, but again, there is a wide range of quality available.
  15. 1665 is the old vintage from the late 60's - mid 80's (uses the Rolex caliber 1570). This has an acrylic crystal and matte dial with painted markers. 16660 is from the mid 80's - 90's (uses the 3035 caliber). This model is the first sapphire model with both matte and gloss dials. 16600 is the current model which is still in production up to the M serial where I believe it will be discontinued (this one uses the 3135 caliber). This model is of course sapphire and with the gloss dial. Hope this helps... Cheers, R
  16. A bit of a general/high level question. As with anything, there are varying degrees and levels of quality, accuracy, etc.; this consideration also spans across specific models within a 'class' or category as well. If you can perhaps clarify a bit more with some specifics, your question would be a little easier to answer...
  17. ROFL... Hence proving that one's priorities in life should always be considered (and reconsidered) from time to time and adjusted when necessary.
  18. I'd love to get my hands on a closed factory 2254.50.00...
  19. The pricing dynamic of vintage Rolex is interesting, but it makes sense; so many of the sports models had quickly escalated up in price and value; certain specific pieces had some very sharp increases that seemed to compound on an almost daily basis. Certain models like the 1675, 16750, 5513 were late to the party... I suspect that many who wanted in on the investment phenominon saw these options as their foot in the door, hence pushing prices up to current levels as a result. Meanwhile, pieces like the 6263/5's and some of the divers have started coming back down in correction (though the top of the top still command premium prices). Interesting, cause it wasn't that long ago that everyone (both here and gen fora) were astounded to bear witness to the first $25k DRSD; these days, those prices have exceeded that threshold far beyond, yet I've seen some pieces (full package as well) start to stall out in the $40k range. Then add in the curent economic strains.... I still maintain that a good deal and value is likely to be had at an IWJG show... Folks are looking to liquidate... If you wait until the last or second to last day of the show (while dealers are packing up), you can probably strike a good last minute deal...
