  1. Thanks, fellers! Battery is charging up now, so I'llgive it another go tomorrow. Maybe I'll try some in some better natural lighting. As for the 16610... T'is new You like?
  2. Hey gang, I just rec'd my first D-SLR, so I'm a bit excited about my new toy (prior cameras, both Canon Powershots were destroyed by my darling 2 year old daughter). Thought I'd try a few pics; bear with me as I'm still figuring out the learning curve, but so far I'm having some fun! Currently, my only lens is an 18 - 55mm; I figure once I start figuring this thing out, I'll start looking into other lenses. I'd love to hear some thoughts or comments on improvement... All the best and much appreciated! R
  3. Looks great! Love those subdials! Certainly doesn't look like it wears like a 44mm watch... Very tempting, methinks!
  4. The only 'Sinns' I am interested in, are the ones I commit with my wife j/k! I'd love to have a 756 or a U1, but they're so reasonably priced (especially on the secondary market), that it just makes sense to buy the gen. Plus, then you get that nifty little sulphate capsule thingy!!....!!!...! ! Unfortunately, I have yet to get a Sinn, because I always find something else that's more interesting at the time to pursue; the poor 756 Diapal just keeps getting pushed lower and lower off the short list, and onto the top of the long list...
  5. BT- One of my first 'expensive' reps was a Sub from Idealwatches (s/n W860168). Overall, the watch was decent for it's time, and not something offered by the other dealers (the TW Best was the closest to it in terms of detail and characteristics). Kinda funny to think back to those days...
  6. brb... Gonna go get some munchies and a drink. This oughta be a good thread
  7. I come here for the people Lots of friends here... Lots of great people. I like to think of it as my second home
  8. Something interesting- Here's a dial I picked up. An old DSN (I'm told an old prototype) which I don't believe to be in production any longer. Some aspects of the dial look great, while there are a few that could have been done a little better. I believe the above to be an issue of one supplier providing one dial (the above) while another may be actually contracted to do the work (resulting in a completely different end product altogether). A similar parallel would be the old vintage Rolex models pre-1990's (prior to Rolex buying their suppliers out to do things in-house). Lots of variations in dials, hands, etc. as several were contracted to provide the parts...
  9. I used to think that the factories kept from building a 100% accurate rep to avoid copyright infringement, but anymore, I think it's just a matter of too many inconsistencies.
  10. I agree with you; the technology exists to create a true clone, but it doesn't seem to be in the manufacturer's best interest. For one, it's a fake. The factories and parts manufacturers aren't interested in achieving 100%; rather, 95% - 98% accurate seems to be acceptable. This may be for a number of reasons of which I can only speculate, but at the top, I do suspect that the following reasons contribute to the topic most: 1) There is no standard of build quality amongst the different manufacturers. While assembling factories may be churning out a product, there is no guarantee that any consistency will exist amongst the different suppliers of parts out there. My thoughts on this are that they use what parts are available; when one batch runs out, they order another, though they may use the first source of availability, or they may base this decision on price to keep margins low. 2) Keeping the above in mind, some manufacturers may actually go out of their way to keep certain aspects and details of a watch flawed. I am not sure about the validity of this notion, but it's interesting to look back and take note of all the updated versions a factory may release of a watch, with prior flaws fixed. Unfortunately, this tends to result in prior correct characteristics to now be the subject of problem (commonly known as the 1 step forward, 2 steps back conundrum). While this may be puzzling to some, the motive seems to be continued sales of a product that may likely be saturated in the market already. Or, it could be a genuine oversight. 3) Factories may simply not care. They're making their sales, breaking even on cost and generating profit for every unit sold above their initial production cost. In my humble opinion, if you want a nice, accurate rep, you have to build it. Take the best of the best from each watch and combine them to build your own ultimate. Sure, it might be pricey, and it may be time consuming and effort intensive. But the result (which is likely to be less than gen, but more than your standard rep) is well worth it. You end up with a special piece, built from the best parts and orchestrated the way *you* want it. At least, that's the way I've been doing it Cheers! R
  11. RG knows how to do a killer job, doesn't he? Looks fantastic!
  12. I'm assuming you can do the gold 18k-look PVD?
  13. The thin case was an old rep. Bought it from ZZ a few months back as a case and bracelet set. Otherwise, I am not sure of it's origins as he got it second hand as well. But I can say that it is specifically for the modified 7750, as it fits perfect with plenty of clearance for the rotor.
  14. Thanks, sir. 1) The movement/dial (and pusher, crystal) donor was the typical fat case rep. The case clamps for this one are actually too short for the thin case; as a result, the movement tends to shift when the crown is pulled/pushed. With regards to the bezel, I simply wedge a razor between the case and bezel to start a very slight gap, at which point I then use a case knife to start working my way around the bezel until I have it lifted from the case. 2) The bezel I used originally came on my aftermarket 16520 case kit. It's a nice, flat profile. 3) I think this one's going on a bracelet; just the standard rep bracelet that comes with this one. BTW, I think I'm going to convert the fat rep case into a Tudor Chrono Big Block. We'll see... DL and MK- Thanks for the kind words! Though, I think you guys know my preference!
  15. Doing a build for my uncle... Starting to come together Need to button up with a couple of small items- Better case clamps for one, but it's more or less done. I've begged and pleaded with my Uncle NOT to do one of these secs@12:00 116520's, but he's persistent; even after offering to build him a 16520 El Primero. *sigh* Hope this doesn't become a paperweight for him...
  16. Oh my goodness, Rob. I hope you are okay! What do the doctors think?
  17. Thanks, DL. I just installed my gen T-125 on it the other day; I had been going back and forth as to whether I wanted to open the little paper envelope or keep it sealed. This is a common occurence for me- I always struggle with the idea of using perfectly good NOS gen parts for projects until I rationalize the point that my projects are the sole reason why I bought the damn parts to begin with
  18. Still wearing this as my daily; swimming, showering, every day wear etc... Working on something else at the moment, but alas our darling little girl broke the camera!
  19. VERY nice, W! I love the Coramid; very neat strap that seems to be seldom seen in action. And that 63... What more could be said? You definitely have some of the choicest PAMs in the collection!
  20. I only have one... But if I could have another, it would be a 105.012
  21. Happy Birthday, MP!! All the best! Cheers, R
  22. Thanks, guys! I think I may have this sorted, thanks to a very kind and helpful individual Thanks again! Cheers, R
  23. lollers! My first step in my outlined plans for world domination...!
