  1. HOT HOT HOT, Mr. C!! I dig it!
  2. That's the problem then. I was running solo with this.... Just me, and the camera with a timer... I think if I tried to explain the objective to my wife, I'd have some very strange looks.
  3. Ahhhh... Lani. I miss that one! If only I found more opportunities to wear it, it would still be in my watchbox I can take comfort, however, in knowing that it's in an excellent home within exceptional care! All the best...
  4. Very recently, I had sold an item from my collection to a very kind and generous individual. The transaction was as smooth as could be; both parties were pleased, and the manner in which the purchasing gentleman had conducted himself was exemplary. However, imagine my surprise when the following gracious and extremely generous gift had arrived at my door step Completely unexpected I might add! I was, and still am without words! If you're reading this... And you know who you are... Thank you! From the bottom of my heart! I have to say.... The membership here... The people who make this place special... Are second to none.
  5. Great read, and very helpful advice for noobs and oldtimers alike
  6. A couple of quick ones.. Not great by any means, but doing this kind of wrist shot was a lot more difficult than I thought it would be
  7. Ahhhh... Dust under the crystal/on the dial... That is my biggest pet peeve! I've taken watches apart 10 - 20 times just to get it completely dust free! All great points by ziggy BTW! Especially the point of no shortcuts. In my opinion, the best way to fast track a job is to simply take your time and do it right the first go around. The time saved will be greater than trying to cut some corners...
  8. I agree completely, buddy! Watches may have brought me here, but they're only secondary to the friendships I've made as a result!
  9. 1550 SGD... That translates to... $1100 US? Or roughly around there?
  10. Personally speaking, the fun and excitement is in the build. I started with gens and sold the few I had and never looked back (okay... I still own one in my collection). While there is no substitute to the real deal, I find that building is far more satisfyng and keeps my ADD in check; I'm always looking for something... Some part or dial, etc. to finish off a project, and the constant search keeps me busy. With gens, I found that I was getting bored, and far too quickly. There's no challenge in going to an AD, exchanging cash for a shiney new toy and walking out with it on the wrist. I mean, once you buy it, it's done! Whereas building... I've had some projects take in excess of a year We're all in this hobby for different reasons... For me, it's just a lot more fun! Past and present (just a few): And a few to come... If the above hadn't been occupying my time for the past few years, I think I'd be pretty bored (or blowing my money on some other, less fulfilling hobby)
  11. That 'O' in the Rolex looked a little too good to be rep (as did the 'YACHT-MASTER' print)! I knew something was up! Gorgeous watch, BTW!
  12. All great watches, gang! p356a- Please tell us more about that 16622!
  13. Before long, you'll find yourself graduating from the basic casing/uncasing, dial and hands R+I, etc. to working on the movement, etc. I'm nowhere near being able to tear an ETA down entirely to overhaul, but I'm finding my comfort level in working on the keyless works, calendar mech, and some of the movement side stuff easing in. I forgot to mention prior- Patience is key! Just as the right tools, gear, and equipment are essential to doing a job well, so is patience.
  14. Ahhhh... I've had many a self inflicted injury from screw drivers, pointed tweezers, etc. All pretty minor stuff, but each little scar reminds me of a bonehead mistake at some point... As for tools... I find a nice assortment of screw drivers is a must. Add along to that, a good hand pulling and hand setting tool. A nice caseback opener (or duct tape), tweezers (amagnetic), and toothpicks. Those items listed seem to be what I use most these days for the basic stuffs...
  15. Hmmmm... I'm trying to think back. Not because there is a lack of 'doh' moments (past or present), but because there are so many to choose from (yes, past and present). I'd have to say that one of the biggest recurring problems I run into is having a spring loaded part go flying through the air and landing who knows where. I typically spend a good majority of my time working on watches crawling around on the floor looking for some ridiculously small part, and my very understanding wife usually helps. But, I'm sure I have some good ones... Just need to knock the cobwebs out of the brain to remember...
  16. I wonder if Arthur is lurking around here these days. He's got a collection of vintage Doxa Subs to die for, and a braintrust of knowledge to go with it all
  17. Wow....! Cool pics and great write up! Pretty amazing how well this version of the Offshore was constructed! Good stuff indeed! Cheers, R
  18. I'm loving this thing... Can't seem to take it off
  19. Happy Birthday, pal! Hope your day filled with all the best with those you love Cheers, R
  20. What you've explained above is exactly how I feel these days! I myself have never wanted a huge collection, but rather a very close, tightly focused core of watches. To me, this hobby can be extremely fast paced, and it's very easy to forget a new acquisition as soon as (or even before) it's received as the attention might already have been shifted to the next target! It's one of the 'problems' we all face with having so many fun toys out there, priced within reason and relatively easy to obtain So, instead, I like to take things as slow as I can (not saying that the scenario mentioned above doesn't ever happen to me; it does). I like to try and enjoy what I have, and keeping the collection small allows me to do that a little easier. I think that's honestly why a lot of watches tend to achieve the status of dust collector- Because the intake of new pieces seems to out pace the actual enjoyment process of wearing a watch from a large collection. But that's only my personal philosophy and view in how I approach this, uhhh... Addiction. YMMV
  21. DIY modding is what makes this hobby fun! At least... For me
  22. When I first saw the debut announcement of this WG Sub on TZ during the Baselworld coverage , I thought it was a joke! It really does look like a Canal St. fake! And to think that they want $30k US/
  23. Ehhhh.... You guys don't want to see what I use as a crystal press! Far, far more archaic than that!
  24. Good idea, lani. I think I'll opt with a Daytona for the next few days as well Thurs: Fri: Sat:
