O/S - I remember that thread, I guess that's why I reckoned it had something to do with broaching hands. Ubi - I'm a gadget freak and it looked cool plus it was only $9.99! The auction just said "Vintage Jewelers Watchmaker Tool #3". Andy/Red - Thanks, I'm getting tired of mangling hands!
-
I bought this tool on e-Bay for pretty cheap. Looking at the listing pix I guessed it might be some sort of vise or holder for hands when broaching. Did I guess right and if not just what the h3ll is it!

I tore my usual daily wear "No-Date" Sub apart yesterday so something possessed me to wear this!

Fine for me as well, not a whole lot of Rolex activity but that seems to be normal as of late...

The wife called this morning on her way to work, frantic, and said her new watch had water in it!!! I told her that was a bad thing and to turn around and bring it back... I thought, "After spending this much on a watch and it $hits the bed the second day she wears it, I'm screwed..." I met her on the sidewalk and traded her for her old trusty a21j Ladies Datejust and she hauled a$$ to work. I looked at the Tudor and there was fog on the inside of the crystal - CRAP!I went out to the shop, opened up the back and found a dry deformed O-ring - strike one... I then pulled the stem and found a badly mangled tube and cut up O-rings - strike two and three. I started feeling sick because I was gonna have to tell her it would be a couple weeks before she could wear it since I was going to have to order some parts. But, I don't give up that easy... I found the O-ring from the case back of her dead Datejust rep fit the Tudor back perfectly so on it went. I tried to remove the crown but didn't have a tool small enough so I drilled off the external part of the tube and then ran a smaller size drill bit through it and it grabbed and screwed the remains into the case where it could be removed. I figured I had the hard part finished so the quest for a tube began. Some time back I ordered some 6mm crown and tube sets from my "parts guy" and the tubes were much too small for the standard 3mm hole so I had almost forgotten about them. I pulled one of these out and the thread matched the case perfectly and the gen 5.3mm twin lock screwed right on! I took the rubber gasket out of the 6mm crown and installed it into the 5.3mm crown and it was a perfect fit as well. A drop of thread locker was applied and the new tube was installed into the case and lo and behold the crown now screws down flush with the case! I still haven't built one of those pressure tester gizmos so I'll just remind her to not get it very wet but it surely will be a lot more watertight than before!

I installed a WIKI engine and linked it to the motorcycle forum I administer - it sounded like a good idea and the membership response was positive. A couple years later only one or two people besides myself ever took the initiative to learn enough to post any articles and mostly just whined about how confusing it was. I gave up...

A #55 bit w/knurled "holder" is in the mail...
-
Yes, it'd be pretty hard to go the other way with it!
-
Yeah, it's tall and very clear so I'm assuming that it was replaced about the same time that half the case was polished away!
-
It may have been drilled long ago (in relative rep time) and maybe just picked up some burrs inside along the way - who knows...
-
THat is strange. Is this a new rep or a "previously enjoyed" one? I'm thinking that the PT Sea Dweller is one of the few that come with proper sized holes out of the box, but I could be wrong. If new, then, we all know about the ridiculously high level of QC by illicit CN manufacturing operations! That would explain why 2 out of 4 were a bit "off", shall we say...
-
I don't know if they would or not but you could check there and also at Sears. If, on the other hand, you need to actually drill them to size then that is a job best left to a mill or drill-press. Good luck!
-
Most reps (I'm assuming it's a rep) have holes that are to small so they will need to be drilled to size. If it's gen then maybe take a #55 drill bit in a pin-vise and clean out the offending hole as I suppose it's possible they might have some gunk or burrs inside hanging things up...

hackR, I rooted around out in the shop and found another Tudor signed Brushed Oyster band like I used on my project. It's a rep so PM me if you need a "last resort"... -
This is the original band: Mr. Goat - I haven't opened it up yet but listening to it tells me it's a low-beat so I would think it might be a 2751?

The detailed build details and pics of this have already been posted, along with some updates, but with all the "Tudor activity" on the board lately I figured I should make a small post with the watch in final form. This was my first "frankenwatch" build and I really learned a lot from the experience. All-in-all, despite it's various "errors" and shortcomings, it looks enough like the "real deal" that I'm happy with it. The Daytona bezel isn't correct, the crystal diameter is a bit too small, and I believe the case is a bit too thick but I can live with it. About the only thing left that I will do is to drill the lugs. Here's the parts list and a few pics of the finished product: 1 - Gen Tudor dial - Lani 1 - Gen crown and tube - justasgood 1 - Rep Daytona case - Ubi 1 - A7750 movement - Ubi 1 - Rep Daytona hand set for A7750 1 - Rep Tudor signed Vintage style brushed Oyster bracelet Again, this project never would have been completed, let alone gotten off the ground, without support from Ubi, Lani, and justasgood :thumbsupsmileyanim: - thanks guys and my hat's off to ya!

A bit of "judicious" file work should remedy that...

My wifes birthday was a couple weekends ago so I decided to do something special for her since she's put up with me for over 30 years and usually gets short-changed in the gift department. I was going to get here a Swiss movement Ladies Datejust to replace her a21j powered one and then I ran across this vintage gen Tudor while sifting flea-bay listings for other stuff. The pics were nice and it looked to be in excellent cosmetic condition so I pulled "ye olde trigger". The watch arrived Saturday and other than a folded link bracelet that was about 1.5" too short for wive.gov I was pleasantly surprised. I swiped the band from her Datejust rep that had a schizo movement and she was "up and running" in short order. I have ordered a Tudor signed two-tone bracelet but the full SS one doesn't look that out of place for the time being. Here's a few pics for the Tudor-philes amongst us: I was a little surprised to discover that although the crystal has roughly the same diameter as the Datejust rep the case is visibly smaller which sort of damped her enthusiasm for the piece just a little bit: Once I get the proper band about the only other thing I see that needs attention is either the crown or more likely the tube. Possibly the tube has been replaced and the replacement was an aftermarket piece that was a bit too long?

So, you were the lucky bugger! I may have another Tudor signed Oyster bracelet like I used on mine, I'll check tomorrow. I sourced my hand set from Eurotimez and the A7750 movement will drop right in without any ring or spacer/adapter. ofrei.com has cyclops. -
Well, I can remember being stationed in Fairbanks, AK, and in the winter if you didn't get outside for lunch you didn't see any daylight for quite a while...
-
Spring-bars shown on pictured band are incorrect and I've never seen a dial with a coronet that funky looking...
-
Well, today ain't Feb 29th so I must be missing something...
-
Photos are just fine, looks nicely put together. I will admit, though, this shade of blue doesn't do much for me but that does not in any way detract from this being a very nice timepiece!
-
Andy - I think the 1530 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date may have used the same case, they sure look the same. @high - I wish! It probably would have been easier... This started as a Datejust case and I welded up between the lugs with 316L filler wire and re-machined. Look at picture #2...

LH, you may have something there the TCB logo is kinda cool!
