My next project: 116600, done the right way.
edgematic1 replied to hologramet's topic in The Rolex Area
Dial and bezel from the bay? Was watching them too, they were priced well! But another project has to go first. So far I'll have to do with the 3135. Maloja is a good guy. What bothers me a bit is the crystal, not sure if they've upgraded it with the last release. But the best ceramic seadweller for sure. Proportions are way better. Should be an easy build, good luck. -
Yes, I'm interested in the 18239. Oyster wasn't an option indeed.

Just to give you guys an idea, MQ charges €6500 for a converted 727 movement, work only (you supply the movement) is €4500. Phong charges $6500 for the conversion only. Those prices are just mad.

I always used to order from Jensen, good guy, too bad about his issues now but wasn't unforseen. He was quite in the open with his business, facebook, social media, etc. I know that a few guys had a custom dial made by him. Now I'm wondering who I should use for a custom dial. It's nothing fancy, just a 6263 panda dial T SWISS T, no daytona print. I have compared the current available dials to the original and they just aren't that good. As I'm quite handy with adobe illustrator, autocad etc, and because I have some crazy good image of that dial, I would like to build a few custom ones. I'm currently working on the dial design and it should be finished by tomorrow, every little serif, every little bleed etc is being drawn over. I am tracing all marks on the dials, not a single copy paste. Who would you recommend? I know a few factories myself but I just can't get them to print Rolex on the dial, hehe. I'm also in touch with a company that manufactures bakelite as I feel the current bezels for a 6263 mkI aren't close enough or are overpriced.

Nope, will find out. Those white gold cases that RJ showed look pretty good.

Interesting topic. I've been looking at DD cases as well, all I remember is a guy from Taiwan that had quite good cases and bracelets, in YG though. But if he has YG, WG can't be too hard right. He was on eBay, not responsive though, sent him a message without a reply.

Yes, @sputim told me, I thought it also had the same beatrate as the 72. I might sell my v72 and look for a v726, we'll see. I'm not in a hurry.

Thanks for the info, I had been looking at your thread today. I'm not sure DW had a sigma dial, afaik only the ones with red lettering. I have been in touch with Sputim as well, the dial he uses looks great! I have a Valjoux 72 as well, got it for €400. Saw it passing by and immediately thought about this kind of build. I still can't believe I found it that cheap nowadays. The ideal situation would be if the Dark Lord made these dials as well but I should check with him, I don't think so. Although he's also thought to be behind TC's KH dials so who knows... What pushers would you recommend instead of going gen? When I take on a franken project I always take it as a challenge to get it as close as possible to the gen, that's what I really enjoy, hehe. The hunt, and getting it as close as possible. What's the best source for bezels? Those NY bezels look good in my opinion! Thanks, I already have a Valjoux 72, hehe.

I'm going to work on a 6263 franken build. I would like to get the insight of you guys on the 6263 projects. I'm looking at a There are a couple of threads yet I don't find any conclusive thread. What I'm thinking to use: 1. Valjoux 72 movement, conversion to be made to 727, question: the 727 was fitted with a new balance and the beat was increased for greater precision to 21,600bph, previous 72x movements (including the 726) ran at 18,000. Can I convert my V72 to a higher beat? I know that Phong used to do this, does he still offer this service? Most likely way too expensive/not worth it? 2. Ruby 6263 case 3. gen hands 4. gen crown & pushers 5. gen crystal 6. gen bracelet Dial, there's not much info on good dials. I know about MQ and Ruby. Phong's aren't good. There are also some dials with gen coronet, where to get those? Most important to me is the dial and bezel. To sum things up, where to get the best parts for a build if not going gen (since sourcing gen parts costs time, in the meantime I can enjoy rep stuff) Thanks!

Awesome link! Many thanks!

Thanks for the reply, that helps. It would be amazing to get a list of the parts needed in order to perform a modification to the regular 1570 date! It's what I was expecting.
-
Hey guys, I know there has been a thread about this before but somehow it's not really clear to me. To make things easy: Can I transplant a 1570 caliber from a 1680 to a 1675? Or let's say, any date model that houses a 1570 caliber? Do the GMT's have an extra gear or function or is it jus the same movement? If they do have extra parts, which parts exactly? Thanks!

Thanks buddy! Do you have a website or reference pics of them? In Italy there are a few indeed! There's Martini Giancarlo, Laboratorio Portalnova as well. But those are quite expensive... Interested to hear about your source!

I have a vintage gen Rollie that has previously been polished. But polished in a bad way by a watchmaker who clearly wasn't experienced. We all know about LA watch works, classic watch repair, ABC watch works, but how about Europe?

1957 Speedmaster, Seamaster, Rail masters Trilogy...
edgematic1 replied to hologramet's topic in The Omega Area
If this is the 1st post about the Trilogy, then I'm amazed. I've handled them at the fair and my god, they are amazing. Being a vintage guy myself I think this is a stunning release by Omega. -
Hey guys, Just logged back in. I have been away for Baselworld & holiday and I'm currently back. The datewheels are packed and ready to ship. If you have any other questions, feel free to post. Thanks a lot! The "OMEGA" datewheel team!

Made some straps for vintage or new Rolex, opinions please
edgematic1 replied to edgematic1's topic in The Rolex Area
I feel you and you are right, however, it's a fun thing, I like doing it and it's not like I want it to be my main job. I'd prefer to sell to the fora only tbh. I could not find any strapmaker meet my requirements so went for it myself. -
Time for an update. Due to the manufacturers busy schedule, holiday etc. production took a little longer than expected. The datewheels are on their way from Switzerland! I'll update asap with more info and photos. Thanks all!

Made some straps for vintage or new Rolex, opinions please
edgematic1 replied to edgematic1's topic in The Rolex Area
Apart from the shell cordovan horween offers I feel their leathers are not refined enough for high quality straps. They won't get near let's say a Hermes strap. Which is what I'm trying to get to. I love the shell cordovan they offer. Hard to get due to low quantities. -

edgematic1 replied to edgematic1's topic in The Rolex Area
Thanks for the responses guys. Much appreciated. As for pricing, calf and buffalo should be €85, ostrich €120 and alligator €200. I am well aware of the asian strapmakers at cheap prices. Yet, those leathers are not sourced in France or Italy, often not the best part of the hide is being used, mostly machined instead of hand stitched etc. There are exceptions but overall i feel the leather quality is way below the top quality available from European tanneries. I mainly started these because for example straps from Hodinkee or Bulang (both from Menicucci) are overpriced vs their quality. They look cool, don't get me wrong but the quality is not what I'd expect at that price point. I'll think it through very well. If I'm selling it will be in small quantities, it's not my daily job and I like the fact that they're not widely available.
