That dial is for a V72. Sorry, but if you want to use it you'll have to get your wallet out again! I've found it almost impossible to find a good quality 7750 compatible dial. I must admit I've not given it quite the determination I should because I have a fairly decent EE dial already but I'd like a better one. Anybody got any suggestions? Good luck with the build by the way

Well, obviously it's not a V72 so there is the subdial spacing but that's a whole other issue. I don't want to be a party pooper but there's probably case shape issues but it would take some of the real hardcore experts to point those out - I haven't got a clue.

As an affordable PN I don't think you can do better than what you've got (plus the already mentioned changes). Well done.

BTW you can call me what the hell you like - it's water off a ducks back to me

That's what reps are all about. Simple, quick, easy to put together, reasonably priced with great results. Now, where's that V72? I think I'll just throw a PN daytona together before dinner!

GMT's not my bag (yet) but that sub is a real beauty. And no, I can guarantee you will NOT look that good when you are 107 years old.

I love the fact that I wear reps that cost a fraction of the gen but are visually virtually indistinguishable. I always tell people they are reps and I love the look of amazement  when somebody who knows watches can't find a tell. Often it prompts a conversation about the whole concept of 'fakery'. Orson Welles made a film about it so I'm in good company

The folded bracelet looks much better than the riveted IMHO. Nice, wear it well.

I voted for the dark. Purely because it's actually more accurate. If you look at a whole bunch of vintage watches it's amazing how well preserved they are, especially the bezel inserts. I'd go so far as to say that in a tray of 50 vintage subs you'd only find one or two with faded inserts.

What would I do to 'age' a 1680? Wear it, wear it and wear it. Fix things with it still on your wrist, don't be frightened to abuse it. Knock it against a wall as you are walking along a corridor just for the hell of it etc etc. Soon enough it will look pretty beaten up and that can only be a good thing.

I have got my 1665 back from a recent trip to the doctor, it has a gen T39 which was damn near perfect. I've only been wearing the watch a couple of weeks and already it has two fairly noticeable scrapes on the plexi. Some people would have a heart attack. I couldn't be happier!

Funny old world the watch world, it seems the more questions you ask the more vague the answers get. Suppose that's part of the attraction. Ironic that a subject that relies so heavily on precision is smothered in inexactness and guesswork!!

Interesting reading in the sales thread for the spinmaster PN 6263. He says that old swiss 7750's had the subdials in the correct place for a vintage daytona. I've no reason to doubt him, I'm sure he's right. So, just for clarities sake does anybody know when the changeover came to the 7753 as pointed out by panerai153?

I know its a Paul Newman dial but the title of this thread is "Best 6263 rep currently available" well, the answer is quite simple. The one that is for sale right now! Get your wallets out gentlemen

I must admit I was wondering such a thing myself. FYI the watchsmith who works on my wife's gen (which I am assuming has a T22) has done exactly that and it's been fine, he was (again an assumption) using a gen xtal to start with. The results are not as good as a T21 dome but not a bad effort. Good luck J!

The dial is from a rep long since gone and it was sold by someone called easyeasy hence it was known as an EE6263. The watch is a DW caseset and has now got gen tube/crown, Ofrei pushers, modified movement  (more than just taking the rotor off) to make it manual wind, low profile caseback, gen T21, gen bracelet, watchNY bezel and DW handset. There's not much more you can do to one of these other than going V72.

If you use a DW case and manage to get a well printed dial you can gradually improve the watch. Have the rotor and auto mechanism removed you can then fit a low profile caseback. You can also use a gen tube and fit a gen crown. Improve the standard DW bezel (although I am told his new bezels are much improved) fit a gen T21 glass then uprate the pushers to either Ofrei ones or if you're in the UK Cousins offer a decent replacement. If you really wanted to go to town you could fit a swiss made 7750 movement (I think!) and buy a gen bracelet then you really would end up with a rep that all but the most keen of eyes would not know the difference and, of course, all the functions would work as they should. My watch (pictured above) is about as good as it gets without going into V72 territory. Having said that it will cost you over £1000 but at least you can pick and choose when to spend the money and collect parts accordingly when the wallet permits.
