  1. Colin Chapman was allegedly a complete AH but he did like a light vehicle and had his fair share of success. Let's not forget his mantra "Add more lightness"
  2. Hello, may I pop in? No insult intended, Just to let you know I'd prefer a Bristol engined Ace. Just happen to like them, that's all. Carry on.
  3. Jeez, you guys. All this computer speak is making my head spin. Anybody remember the Sinclair ZX81?
  4. I have to say. Here in the UK we are very poorly represented, in fact we are (as far as I know) not represented at all, pathetic . Such a shame, we have a great watchmaking history as well! Lets not forget Geo. Daniels (RIP), he had quite an eye for motor cars too. Sorry, didn't want to mention cars. Forget I said that. Do I need to don my flak jacket again?
  5. Build a brilliant rep then you can '[censored] a snoot' to all of them
  6. @ Nanuq We're waiting here..... where are you 'scurrying' to - Toronto? Can you put a little more urgency into your scurrying please
  7. Oh go one then.... if you insist. But I'm only going to look at it through one eye and even then against my better judgement.
  8. Woa woa woa, hold on there! Firstly I would like to apologise for causing any ill feeling. It was not my intention. I thought by the tone of my topic title that it was pretty obvious to all that I had my tongue firmly in my cheek. My mistake. The Brits are famed for their sense of humour and their ability to laugh at themselves. I can now see that this is indeed a rare characteristic and something to be treasured. As to my opinion of American cars? If you read what I said about the '56 Thunderbird you'll see. I think it's best we close the book on this one. I've certainly learned something.
  9. Corvette's can be made to turn properly. I have seen a very impressive performance from one when it was up against the best of European metal. It didn't win but came damn close! Needless to say that car and a factory standard one where chalk and cheese.
  10. @ aeromatic I am in the market for a creamy dial and hands. What did you use on yours? In fact what are all the specs on that piece? When you say 'decent crown' what are you going for? Do I detect a gen insert there?
  11. I saw one racing at Classic Le Mans. It was amazing, the sound - exactly like a jet 'plane - then this car comes hurtling past! Your brain cannot equate the sound with a car, fantastic idea, I agree.

  13. @ ASCIWhite: Credit for invention of the steam turbine is given both to the British engineer Sir Charles Parsons (1854–1931), for invention of the reaction turbine and to Swedish engineer Gustaf de Laval (1845–1913), for invention of the impulse turbine
  14. OK. I've got my flak jacket on. A friend of mine is a classic car fan. He thinks American cars are rubbish. This is what he said when I told him that I was going to start this debate. "The Americans have never, ever had an original idea. They pinched everyone else's, especially the British. And when they're really jealous they ruin better ideas!!! Let me know should you need any examples." Discuss:
  15. Thought this car thing might have legs so I've started a thread in general discussion. Hope you appreciate the thought provoking title
  16. Jeez. And there I was thinking I was going to have hours of entertainment watching people from various countries slogging it out. Well, there it is then all hail the great Canadians. I suppose that's subject closed. BTW it's not just because of The Zigmeister, it seems that every time I read about a great build or modification, a new name may appear and lo and behold they are Canadian. Is it something they put in the water up there?
  17. It's called "A well-written article" Sorry am rubbish with computers, didn't understand how to link it in and all that jazz.
  18. Actually chaps, I'll 'fess up. The first car I fell in love with was the 1956 Thunderbird. Absolutely beautiful.
  19. Hooray! Three cheers for one and all!
  20. The only decent car the Americans ever made was the Ford GT40. And that was British.
  21. Welcome Leecar1980 (fellow Londoner). I'm not aware of a reference sheet for abbreviations you just have to read, read, read and you eventually get the gang of it. BTW can you sort out your font size, I needed my 30X loupe to read your post!
