  1. That AK looks lovely. I admire your choice. Hope Silix comes through soon. Have not used him myself but patience is the key. It will be worth waiting for. Welcome to the club. Yes it's addictive. Yes it costs $$$. Yes its sometimes infuriating, but when it all comes together the satisfaction is priceless - and neverending. Enjoy it all. Good luck.
  2. Glad you like the watch. Looks to me like you made a wise decision. Welcome to the club!
  3. For those who are interested: DW does not know if his V72 caseback will fit my EE case. On the strength of freddy333's guesswork I have ordered one anyway and will report back as to weather it fits.
  4. Thanks for all the info. Now after a long period of inactivity watchwise I am now fired up again about this and can't wait to see this little project to fruition.
  5. I have asked DW - not got a reply yet but fingers crossed. Even if he doesn't know I think I will order a caseback anyway - as I find, like you, the idea of an automatic 6263 quite ridiculous.
  6. @ freddy333 Thanks for the info and yes, I would like to follow suit but I do not know if one of DW's V72 casebacks would fit on my EE case - have you any idea if it will? Cheers
  7. Update. Great communication with DW and a 7750 dial and hands are on their way to me. He has confirmed the subdial hands are white so no painting required. Freddy333 - love the photo of your silver dial 6263 and you say you have added a few gen parts, was wondering what they were? I have a gen glass on my EE but that's it. Cheers.
  8. Great watch. Nice to see someone who appreciates the SD more than the 'ubiquitous' sub ha ha ha
  9. Welcome aboard. What needs saying has already been said but don't get downhearted. The good news is that you are definitely in the right place to (eventually) get what you are looking for. Pay up a few dollars and you might find your watch in the for sale section and your hunt will not be so fraught. I got a vintage Daytona from this forum and with a little sourcing of parts and incredible generosity from fellow members I am well on the way to achieving my aim. So, chin up and get hunting! All the best of luck to you.
  10. And a partridge in a pear tree.....
  11. My daily beater is a modded 1665. It's a great watch - tough as nails and yet classy, a difficult trick to pull off. I agree, the 1665 wins - hands down.
  12. You'd have to prize my 1665 off my wrist with a crowbar. Vintage rollies of almost any model are beautiful. Wish I could say the same about the moderns .
  13. Sorry, am a bit confused. Does it have a gen movenent? . Couldn't resist it. Seriously looks fantastic well done for all the work and not to mention expense. It's a beauty wear it well.
  14. Thanks for all your help. I really like the silver dial variation that Ubi has shown. Given that my watch has the screw down pushers it somehow looks right. But, I would have to find someone who could paint the subdial hands and the tip of the main second hand before putting the new dial on - sounds like a The Zigmeister job. If, however, I went with a black dial and I think I would go for the PN if I did (sorry freddy333) then it would just be a case of a straight dial exchange but I agree with you freddy333 I would have a piece that if genuine would be so expensive as to become unbelievable - not that I ever try to convince people that I am wearing a gen anyway. I like to see the amazement when I tell them it's a rep. But I digress, also I feel that the black PN looks better with non screw down pushers. I know that screw down with the exotic dial is perfectly viable but for some reason it doesn't look quite right. I notice freddy333 that the only exotic dials you have are all on non screw down pushers and I agree with your choice, so all in all I think Ubi hit the nail on the head straight off. The silver non PN dial with my case is the correct answer. So, I will see if DW can supply that dial then I will be trying to find a modder who can do the work. Is The Zigmeister the man for the job? Is this too trivial for him? Would I be taking a huge risk sending the watch to Canada (I am in the UK)? More questions, but you know you love it Regards, Dieselpower.
  15. Quick reply from DW Big problem. Exotic or standard dial? Which colour? Oooh I can't make my mind up. @ freddy333 - you seem to have just about every variation there is, what's your favourite? All opinions welcomed.
  16. Have tried to contact DW through iOffer. Lets wait and see. Thanks again.
  17. Thanks chaps. The two Daytona gurus have spoken. Unless anyone else has any gems of wisdom to impart I reckon we can consider this case closed. DW it is. Thanks again. Dieselpower.
  18. Thanks for that Randy, I love the silver dial but then I would have to get the subdial hands painted. I ask again where can I get a decent dial - this POS dial is killing me
  19. Hi to all, I have an EE 6263 Datyona and I am very happy with it on the whole but I can't help being rather disappointed with the dial. Lets face it - it's rubbish. Does anyone have any recommendations as to where I might get a decent quality replacement at reasonable cost? All input much appreciated.
  20. Great photo. Rolex actually make a modern that I like. Oh dear - more spending
  21. Would they have been made to fit a tube into a case that had a damaged internal thread and needed re-tapping? Just a curious question - I know nothing of these matters.
  22. freddy333, You really are a mean bas*ard. I hate you.
