I used to work in a bank. Here's a little story - all true. The assistant manager ran an annual lottery for charity (his son was disabled). The prize was

You Can Build a Nearly Perfect 116520 Daytona
dieselpower replied to freddy333's topic in The Rolex Area
Freddy333, You may have inadvertently just solved a mystery. Some time ago I purchased an EE Daytona and when I received it I noticed that it had small traces of what appeared to be clear glue, or nail polish on its back around the endlinks. I asked the seller about this and he did not know why it was there but reported that the watch was like that when he bought it. I wonder if the original owner had sensitive skin and used some nail polish in the manner that you describe? Apologies that this is somewhat off topic but I couldn't resist sharing it with you. Very interesting tutorial BTW. If I wanted a seconds at 6 Daytona this would seem to be the way to go. Thanks for sharing. Dieselpower. -
I used (on recommendation) one of these: www.pmwf.com/Watches/WATCHSALES04/WATCHACCESSORIES4/BezelInsertForRolex1680SwissMade/BezelInsertForRolex1680.htm I also bought one of the illumes dots from Ofrei and am very pleased with the results. From my research here I think it is the best option other than sourcing the gen insert and pearl. Hope this helps.

A few pics of my very first vintage Franken project
dieselpower replied to stilty's topic in The Rolex Area
Absolutely fantastic! A really special watch and completely stunning. Another example of why I have said in the past that some reps are almost preferable to the genuine piece. I know that sounds crazy but I can't help thinking that a labour of love like this has more value to the (rightly) proud owner than merely walking into a shop, handing over lots of $$$ and walking away with another toy. I have seen many gen 1016's - that's no big deal but I have never seen as good a rep as this and in my book that IS a big deal. Well done, superb work. -
Incredible piece. A work of art. Enjoy and wear well.

Afraid I can't help you on the swishing sound. I have a gen from 1952 so the movement is not the same. For what it's worth it clicks, not a swish to be heard. Anyway I hope it all works out well. I think it is fantastic that you found a movement with a flat top 3 to put in your 1665. I can't wait to see the results. It is something I plan to do one day. I wish you well with this and your other projects. Marvellous stuff

I splashed out on a gen Omega Speedmaster Professional some years ago. I have small wrists but soon got used to the size. It is one of the worlds great timepieces and I love having a decent gen in my collection just to shut the people up who complain about me owning reps. You could certainly get a second hand speedy, I'm not sure how much they are new but you are not far off. Although I may very well buy a gen mvmt for one or more of my reps in the future, if I had your

Oh my God, Just when I thought I had got to where I wanted with a 1665 you go and post this! Fantastic piece, absolutely love it. Enjoy it, wear it well and if you ever want to sell it PM me!!! Dieselpower.

Buy the real MBW. They're not that difficult to get and are definitely worth the extra $$$. Non MBW are toys. MBW's are watches.

I have just looked at bestswiss website and am sorry to say it looks like one of the many sites that sell below par watches for a high price. My advice would be to try and get your money back and use this forum to do lots of resaearch into the model you want to buy and only then take the plunge. Good luck.

Welcome aboard. Tread carefully, it's a minefield out there but definitely worth the effort.

Arty, Thanks for your help. I did not do a google search for the model my friend wants and thank you for looking. What a bloody idiot! I will tell him he won't get a rep of an LED watch and stop him from wasting our collective time. Apologies, Dieselpower.

Hi People, A friend wants me to get him a Girard Perregaux 9931 rep. Does anybody know where I can get one? Thanks and happy new year. Dieselpower.

Hi all and Merry Christmas, Mrs Diesel has kindly bought me a rep Bergeon caseback opener for xmas and I have wasted no time using it on my fast running EE datyona to get into the movement with a view to adjusting it correctly. I will be following a tutorial in another section but I have already noticed something strange. I used the hacking function to set the seconds exactly to my computers clock but have noticed that once the seconds hand is allowed to run again (un-hacking if you like) it takes a full minute before the minute hand starts to function. In other words if I set the time to 12.30pm exactly my watch loses a minute before functioning properly and if I check it with my computer 5 minutes later the computer is reading 12.35 but my watch reads 12.34, not a big deal really I have simply set the watch one minute fast and then one minute later it is reading the correct time. Just thought I would post this to see if anyone else has noticed this or can give an explanation. Anyway, better go now as Mrs Diesel is demanding that I do not spend time on Christmas Day posting on RWG . Cheers, Dieselpower.

I bought a seconds at 6 daytona for a friend. He hardly ever used the chrono function. The watch died after 18 months. Personally, I do not feel that they are worth it. Any dealer who sells a watch but tells you not to use it in the way it is designed to be used it treading on thin ice IMHO. Hope this helps.

My God, I can't stand the tension. Pictures pictures pictures!!!!!! Pleeeeeeeease.

Andrew and Trusty Time- the right decision!
dieselpower replied to Halster's topic in The Rolex Area
I too have bought reps from Andrew and was very satisfied with the watches and service. But don't kid yourself that they are perfect reps of the genuine article. That doesn't exist. I point this out as a caution to noobs who might get the wrong idea. Enjoy your watches - even with little flaws! Best regards Dieselpower. -
They are very collectable. I know a man in the UK who collects nothing but 1016's!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Thanks for posting. How people do that is a source of constant amazement to me. Merry Christmas!

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the various members who were so helpful and generous with their suggestions and gifts (you know who you are - thank you) and general support etc etc. I am a happy bunny

Hi all, As some of you may recall, I recently had a bad experience with RBJ and got ripped off. Well, I have spent some time (and $$!) collecting parts myself and found another modder and would like to post photos of the latest incarnation of my MBW 1665 DRSD to hear your valued opinions. The list of mods/parts is as follows: Clark T39 superdome Rep bezel insert Ofrei pearl dot Subtly aged dial Ubi datewheel overlay Slow beat ETA movement Gen crown and tube Aged case and caseback Rep hands I will wear the watch daily and hopefully acquire some natural battle scars to complete the authentic 30 year old look! Any suggestions as to what else I could do please feel free to chip in!
