  1. The lume markers actualy look good but I have never seen a gilt dial where the gilt print is the same as the markers. If you could make a mask that leaves only the markers visible spray the teak and then spray the clear all over I think it would look far better

Right now it is just too even

I thought about it too do you mean to leave the writing yellow if the printing was white it would be better i dont intend to use this dial in anything the experiment was to remove the yellow colour

the problem is that the colour of the dial is affected by the laquer so masking would involve a template with the markers exposed

  2. I thought i would purchase a few cheap dials and see if i could make them look better unlike my last experiment which involved 200c oven abuse this time i just used 2 acylic laquers the first was teak colour and then clear coat all sprayed at a distance away to achieve a textured semi-matt look here is the dial as purchased and then photos of the dial through various spray stages The yellow turned orange !

post-27094-0-93082600-1350406600_thumb.j why do they do these yellow markers ? notice the scrape at the 1 oclock marker

post-27094-0-30028400-1350406949_thumb.j all i could do with the damage was scrape it with a tooth pick !

  6. Im sure a lot of gen stuff is made in china a swiss watch only needs to have 25% of the watch to be swiss, china made items is the same as anything made elsewhere you get what you pay for, quality wise as you know there are high end replicas and 10usd replicas lets put aside the flaws in replica watches a high end replica submariner as a watch in its own right swiss eta full stainless steel and so on they are very well made and a fraction of the gen price im sure with a service and tuned a basic eta 2824-2 movement would pass cosc tests ,ok on this forum we will run down a high end rep watch when its compared to the gen but these watches are made by a different factory to the gen and small details are expected but we must remember that most of the cost of the gen is in the brand name

i purchased a pair of green rayban sunglasses for 20usd the lense was glass not plastic i took them down to an optician friend to test the lense i wanted them to be safe as we have a lot of sun in cyprus and the lenses were the same with the gen the gen were priced at 165 euros i think replica makers show that this items can be made for a lot less and show what a rip off gen makers are in my view no watch is worth over 4000usd after all its just a watch ! i will happily wear replica anytime !

  7. OK folks, lets go for a direct comparison:

    Ingod44 @ $125

    post-2563-0-48380500-1350032725_thumb.jp

NDT @ $255 (discounted at the moment from $300)

Gen @ god knows how much!

Remember folks, I'm going to have the dial and hands aged and relumed. For me, the Ingod44 is the winner, various reasons but lets here your opinions.

i would say that a budget build with eta movement and mabe a cartel case then the lower price dial would be the option this is a super dial Are we being too nit pick

trying to find faults with the refinished dial i look for nice dial texture with gen like finish and crisp printing and this fits the bill nicely for me!

  8. How about a feature on dial ageing technics and experiments with results if it has not already been done? then we can see the before and then after and see which ageing process looks the most gen like i have experimented myself some have been successful others totaly ruined ! myself i am very reluctant to age an expensive (refinished) dial

but i would like to age my 5513 dial in a supple way nothing too extreme !

  9. Cheers for that Akira. In my defense the ever so slightly scratched plexi does not look half that bad in the flesh ;) Also I like the well used look. Anyways I was going to swap it out for a new Clarks plexi - which I would then set to with a brillo pad :clap2:

I thought i was the only one who does that to a crystsal! Lol! i use also a scotchguard pad and run it over the crystal in all directions very lightly then buff it up on a old pair of jeans without using polish i prefer to age the crystal than to age the dial and risk destroying an expensive dial which can not be reversed! after the buffing you get a watch that shows the dial clearly when viewed on your wrist but under a lobe you see an aged crystal with scratches i compared it to our gen 5513 crystal and it was damn close i dont think vintage subs look right when factory fresh and shiny it shouts fake to me but you decide how far to take the ageing my next 5513 will be aged very supple just take the factory shine off everything my last was attacked with a brillo pad and a pair of scissors much to the horror of my watchmaker relative !
