  1. On reflection I have to agree with the 'keep it dry' camp. I have a gen 1952 semi bubble back oyster perpetual which is - in theory totally waterproof but there's no way I'd let it near water, too risky. So, lets keep the gens dry and let those rubbish, shameful excuses for watches, commonly called 'fakes' do all the hard work and prove their worth in the real world. Long live the well made rep :clap2:

A friend of mine took a replica 100$ seadweller down to 100m dive and it survived it ! it just goes to show now that watch is an addition to his get subs and a doxa !
  2. here is a few quick photos fitted up mabe i will change the insert to red but this brandy colour harley insert is growing on me !

This watch is a keeper for sure ! thanks to my good friend Andreas (georgeloiz) watchmaker for helping me put this project together ! and thanks for using your wrist for the photo no copyright intended !

    specs are

ruhelena (helenarou) 6538 (sterile case) fitted with saphire crystal AR on the underside pressure rated at 100m (tested to 150m)

rafflestime harley davison insert ( i may fit a coke red or if i can find a burgandy red insert)

    rafflestime tudor rose gloss dial

    rafflestime gold snowflake hands

    gen 2824-2 movement

    yuki tudor shield rotor

Remarks : very heavy case and very well finished no case mods were done and the case weighed about the same as my 6538 cartel build without the tudor movement fitted !

Catergory: tudor black bay influenced (not meant to be an exact replica so is it custom? Fantasy model ? homage ? i am very glad to add this

    to my collection !

oh and almost forgot cost of the build i dont keep good accounts on spending ( nervous twitchy finger)

    6538 case 230 usd approx

    dial 30 usd approx

    flake hands 24.95

movement cant remember about 185 usd

    yuki tudor rotor 28 usd

note that the saphire crystal has AR coating on the inside which gives a blue tint to the dial

  5. I am working on a similar build, with the silix case. I found the hands on ebay that looked like the lume was white. Just to let you know if the lume looks off.

I have just got my parts the raffles gold snowflake hands are white and seem to match there tudor rose dial but i can confirm it better tomorrow in daylight the raffles case is for sure a carlel case complete with 5508 and switzerladn printing but fitted with a sterile crown i decided to use the helenarou case for my build this case is much better that the cartel and more suited to my (Free) homage black bay this order includes the harley davison dial this is more of a brandy brown colour than the bays red burgandy just temperary fitted the dial is the helenarou 6538 and the raffles insert fits ok i was worried about the fitting i will fit the harley and wait till the coke insert arrives and see if i like it better with the coke red insert actually the harley colour seems to suite the guilt dial nicely

the jubelee raffles bracelet does not fit well in the helen case i will post some pics tomorrow ! i would like to see your build too !

  6. Thanks Aeromatic - Never new that 25% rule ? Interesting !

In all seriousness, this watch feels and looks 100% gen - I own gen Rolexes and just knowing it has a gen Rolex movement in it changes the wearers mindset. A bit like a Ferrari engine in so much as you know what is under the hood is what really makes it pedigree and if the seats were re-upholstered then it still is a Ferrari and if the soft-top was replaced - It is still a Ferrari and if The respray was done in California not Modena Italy, then its still a Ferrari and you are still gonna feel like you have a special car. Well this watch really feels like something very very special when you have it on your wrist.

Yes i know what you mean my bond 6538 franken with gen rolex 1030 beating inside does exacty what you said changes a wearers mindset ! as for the ferrari i agree it will always be a ferrari !
  7. Well i thought i would post the intended parts i have ordered just to show what im building if anyone has any suggestions be my guest !

Raffles sterile 6538 case option number 1

    post-27094-0-80420200-1352230017_thumb.j

    or case helenarou 6538

post-27094-0-13842100-1352228756_thumb.j i like this case but it has a saphire crystal and the insert is unique to the case so i may not

be able to find a red/brown insert to fit !

one of the straps that will be fitted is this raffles sterile jubelee bracelet

    post-27094-0-57630500-1352229989_thumb.j

inserts from rafflestime 6538 red coke

    post-27094-0-10261500-1352229962_thumb.j

    Or harley davison brown insert

    post-27094-0-78958200-1352230040_thumb.j

movement will be a 2824-2 or a 70s 2783 eta with yuki tudor rotor

    post-27094-0-07124400-1352228857_thumb.j

and raffles snowflake hands hope they come in white lume and not as shown in there photo

    post-27094-0-37692000-1352230067_thumb.j

anyway gives the general idea of the build just waiting for the delayed shipping for parts

this will be a homage to the black bay but with a more vintaged flavor leaning more towards the vintage big crown no guard subs

  8. My humble little collection of one. I had to sell the only other gen I had to get this but I think it was worth it. 1958 5508 gilt

A guy walked into my local watchshop and said he has a 5508 with a broken bracelet and asked the shop if they would be interested in buying it for 300 euros the shop called me to tell me and the guy said he would bring the watch in the shop , the watchsmith thought that the watch was way to much at 300 euros i told him when you see they guy tell him i want it unseen but he did not leave a contact number and i go there one a week to see if he has contacted the watchsmith being bussy he sometimes forgets things oh boy cant believe it !
  9. That seems like a good idea... we can't have people just ABUSING watches for fun now, can we? So in that spirit........

This supersedes all previous notices. :pardon:

I only asked for a disclaimer not an entire biography ! Ha ha ha You should lay off the beano pal ! man it took me an hour just to delete your disclaimmmmmmer

so to save anyone having to reeeeeaaaad that disclaimer all over again geeez ! :) nice one Nanuq ! :clap2:

  10. Yes, it's been well loved ... some watches just wind up getting used, a *cough* lot.

Crown guards? Hey, if you're modding your rep and miss, and gouge half the metal off, they look gen!

Bashed your crown and caved in half the dots? Looks gen.

Hit it on the rocks 10,000 times and grind your "Tophat" into a "Domehat"? Looks gen. :tu:

    4.jpg

Battle scars and all ! Love it ! After that bold statement you should write a disclaimer at the end you might get a newbee that will actually do this to his watch ! :bangin::)
  11. What hands did you get from Raffles. It seems the lume was not white to match the dial. Not to mention I didn't see gold hands.. Can you tell me what hands you purchased and if they matched the dial. Thanks

Yes they look green ken said that the lume is white they are gold hands so i assume that he used different photo his photos are not good at all for viewing details i did not receive the order yet so i will confirm once i get them

    post-27094-0-14531200-1352199520_thumb.j

  12. Well if a watch to be classed as swiss only needs to have 25% of it (swiss made) then this should be classed as a Gen Gen GEN ! Enjoy and i believe these superfranken will have a high value in its own right one day soon just by the hard work perfecting this superfranken ! and its attention to detail !

  13. Super ! :clap2: Got a blue snowflake dial and flake handset on the way im not sure which way to go with

a yuki/phong case or mabe a cartel 5513 was thinking about this watch as a base but i still need an engraved caseback and correct blue insert

    post-27094-0-63520800-1352044810_thumb.j

Or the puretime 1680 redsub that was the base for my 5513

    post-27094-0-88366000-1352044956_thumb.j

    post-27094-0-88785400-1352045034_thumb.j

I know that the 1680 takes a 26mm dial but does anyone know if the idle/watcheden does ?

I must admit that i have only resently been bitten by the tudor snowflake sub i always thought that the dial/hands looked too fussy but i have warmed up to it after seeing these super fine RWG builds thanks guys for that !

I have a bit of work on at the moment with builds im also in the middle of my black bay homage too

When i get my parts its been a month now where are you mr postman !
