Why so many catch and release Tudor Black Bays?
aeromatic replied to Big Dazza's topic in General Discussion
A gen or a rep ? -
I have been lucky most of my reps were able for swimming except my 1680 redsub the crystal fell out after opening the package ! the never to go near water clause is just another way to say they will not cover water damage as you said makes no sense and as if they cover anything else anyway most times complaining just gets you a negative reply like send back the watch the reshipping most times costs more than the repair not to mention the customs risks resending them the watch if you re-send the watch and it gets lost or taken by the customs then who looses ? we do

Again more sound advice !!! this is what makes RWG a friendly place !!!

We are all to blame we buy these highly illegal replicas and the dealers or factories main goal is to make as much money with the least expenses, there are a few very nice watches for the money but there are tons of crap too, at the other end of the spectrum the gen makers are making a fortune on there over priced watches so mabe they deserve to have there watches replicated (just a thought you understand) In the future i see the replicas will be hard to come by, new screening technologies it will make it very hard to ship replicas ,mabe the future is sterile replicas without trademark logos mabe we take it all too seriously and are taking the fun out of our hobby , a hobby should be some kind of stress free activity !

Well said and sound advice !!!!

I love well done !!!!

These watches are replicas and it was only a matter of time that they would rep the eta movements in the end it is up to the buyer to decide if the 300 plus price tag is worth the money . there are watches out there like the parnis that cost around 120usd in sterile form, i used a parnis ceramic case set for my tudor snowflake fantasy build but i have also built watches that cost me over 500 usd in parts alone and that was with a used eta movement. I like the blackbay finish i dont mind the little things like the pearl or guilt font colour tone the watch is very well done case and bracelet and even if you fit a gen swiss eta movement it still wont cost you more than 500usd compared to the 3k gen price tag I was annoyed receiving a problematic movement on a brand new watch which took a year to be made i have had the movement repaired it also had a problem the minute hand was bent and catching on the seconds hand and apart from the movement was dry, it is now running well i would have prefered a gen swiss 2824-2 ,i may drop a gen movement in if this movement give me any more grief !!!!

Was going to wear my blackbay but it has become (Sickbay) with its problematic movement ! so it is the 55 Me too !! very nice indeed !!
-
Haven,t seen snow for over 20 years ! ! super photos ! and it sure looks cold !!!!
-
The watch stops about 15 min after taking it off, my hand is very active ! i have many automatic watches no problems with storing power ! as i said im not prepared to return the watch but i would return the movement to them, i buy many watches from both trusty and pure ,i understand that some might try to scam them i just want to have my watch working i may just replace the movement my self with another 2824
-
I contacted them to ask if they could send me another movement but one reply said we can not you have to send them the watch back how can this be an ecomomical solution customs risk re-shipping back the watch costs ,handling costs, and return shipping to me my shipping via the uk was 75usd surly an asian eta movement would be cheaper to send me without risking re-sending the watch back, i should also replace the movement with a gen 2824-2 or 2892 but why should i its a new watch

Here is mine ! watch and bracelet is very well finished movement stops working once i take the watch off my wrist

Very nice i am into homage or fantasy builds tudors i have posted some treads on fading inserts without bleaching them, but like bleaching you have to be careful i have used a gas stove and placed the insert on an old knife and hovered the insert over the gas not to close and take the insert away from the heat to check how much fading, you like my blue snowflake insert i just wanted it to remove the shiny gloss so i left it on the heat for a while only it became matt some black inserts may turn green or tropical brown here are some photos of mine Blue snowflake was a purple blue and glossy turned to a nice matt finish This insert was left too long on the heat and faded too much for my liking This insert was metalic glossy red (coke) insert and turned into this matt finish This was a black glossy insert turned to tropical brown also this was a black insert turned brown this happens with some inserts others have turned from black to green this happened when the heat was higher it is a risk when fading you may succeed or fail good luck which ever method you use !!!

It has a rep look to me factory fresh look about it even if its got a gen movement it does not look like an authentic vintage watch to me the dial and bezel looks aftermarket or replica !
-
I dont understand are you thinking of selling the movement or keeping it, to me it looks like an old used swiss movement but as it has been said may contain asian parts
-
I love Eta movements ! I have 2836-2 ,2846s, 2824-2s 2784 , 2472,2451 and 2892-2 and they run well ,the 2451 is an early 60s movement and is still ticking strong !!! my Blackbay (when it arrives ) will be my only asian eta watch apart from my moonwatch ! but i hear good reports on the asian eta !
-
Why do we have to do a forensic analysis ,this is an out of the box 320usd rep of a 3,???? usd rep, lets accept the watch and enjoy it ! the rep is not made by tudor so it can never be exact 1-1 it is a super rep that is damn close to the gen ! and the chances of meeting someone in our daily lives that will call you out, is very very slim ,i see the photos here of the gen with the rep and although i have not received my black bay yet i am impressed by the replication as we know they spent a long time and effort in this replication ! i think it is a lot of watch for 300usd ! Enjoy wear your blackbay and forget about the gen i am sure that some who have thought about buying a gen BB will buy the rep instead and save some serious $$$$s !!!!
