Yes You are Correct! rolex has ruined a lot of vintage watches with the upgrading/replacing parts but then again, they were just tool watches and not vintage! i would say that that bezel must be artifically faded too!
-
Hi biffa yes they are spacers made from some stainless steel tubes cut 1mm each for the 18mm you see i prefer the understrapper look like in goldfinger/thunderball it suites the 6538 watch better, i have tried the 20mm both in bond strap and olive green nato i dident like it. but bonds watch looked a mess with the watch strap sliding all over the place and its hardly fitting considering bonds classy taste so this way i have the best of both worlds but with style! you can use some stainless steel tube from a motor factors or any DIY shop selling nuts and bolts you may be able to find some washers ready made it needs to slide on the springpins and be at lease as thick as the strap i dident glue them to the springpins but when you wear the strap and buckle it they stay in place!

Just thinking there, mabe we should get a list of names of members willing to purchase a good 6542 rep! and send it to one of our rep dealers, who knows if there is a big interest they may consider asking the factory to make it, as they know how helpful places like RWG are to there business! mabe get them to rep also the white dial pan-am,s!

it looks like a gen but could it be a franken? look at the dial again. is it aftermarket?
-
One way or the other they will rip you off! and i too would be all over it! sellers on dhgate use to do this some years back they would show a photo of a gen and ship you something total crap! and they will state that all there watches are gen! a guy on dhgate selling watches show a photo of a gen 5512 i sent him a email telling him to show a photo of the watch he is sellin not a gen photo his reply quote : hello my friend all my photos are of my stock taken by me the watch is a real vintage rolex 1966 please send me your money now! and the price (wait for it ) 46.65 usd bargain of the century? but there are people that fall for this type of scam! scary as it is!

I wonder If a yuki brevet crown will fit?
-
Wow! that looks vintage nice watch!!!
-
Nice Subs you got there!!!!
-
Nice watch! and the new owner is very lucky! these subs are one of the best vintage subs simple clean looks a real "tool" watch! i dont know why many refer to the no crown subs as the bond watch, the 5512/3 were also featured in the bond movies "live and let die" ohmss, the man with the golden gun. even a date sub!

Great 5517 ! i ordered a rep 5517 from a well known dealer and i was disapointed they shipped the watch from a different factory and was not even close to there photo, bad case cheap crystal!uneven lugs. i hope i can find one soon and have a super watch like yours!
-
Im wearing this today after vintaging the bezel insert nothing extreme! just to take off that factory black colour! it has given the insert a slight blue tint, the yuki insert i faded went to a green tint! in fact i have owned this watch for over 5 years and that insert never faded and still looked as new, even though in cyprus we have sun almost all year round! this is a real frankenstine watch! backcase is marked 5512 the case is marked 1665 home made 6mm crystal cut similar to the tropic 19 with homemade retaining ring, and a comex "thicker" bezel fitted! the strap does not have a divers extension bought that from a car boot sale! oh and it has a 2873 slow beat eta ! this is my beater! could do with a relume though!
-
Yes i Agree it does look thin! here is a couple of quick shots of my bond 6538! I think the problem is the rep makers cant find a gen to work from as it is rare, i asked trusty last year if he could ask the factory to replicate this watch and sent him photos of a gen 6538 he replied we dont have a gen to do a replication and this is why it hasent been done but this version is a step in the right direction but they need to correct the mistakes, i dont know why they dont get the crowns right they mostly make the crown too big but this time to thin!
-
Hi alligoat yes this could be a problem i have my plastic crystals made by member george loiz who is a watchmaker! i found that gen crystal wont fit in factory reps without having a specialy built glass retainer, i would prefer to have a cyclop what about fixing a cyclops to a homemade crystal? the saphire crystals are glued on the top of the glass , we will have to see the diameter of the t-116 until i get the watch first on the bench i cant be sure, they have made the watch 38mm diam like the gen so im hoping it will work!
-
Well idlereplicas have now the new Bond watch in at 248usd free shipping , they also have the 3-6-9 explorer type dial actually my interest in these watches is for a low budget build, as i have said before i want to use the case to build a 6542 no crown guard gmt! using fxrAndys supplied 2893-2 movement i know that this watch cant be compared to my yuki 6538 franken but im looking to build a "homage" to the 6542 gmt because i will be using a modern fast beat movement i dont need the case to be as per gen but as close as you can go with a factory rep in this price range, im hoping i will be able to shoehorn a bakelite pepsi bezel insert, and im tryin to find a refinished white gmt dial this will be a everyday watch but with a vintage look!
-
Very nice! well done!
-
check out member stilty post movement adaptors for yuki cases!
-
hi redwatch you will need an adaptor to hold the movement in the right position for the stem alignment yuki emailed me that they are working on one for there yuki cases and i read somewhere here a member is also making them for yuki cases too a watchmaker could do this for you
-
im thinking of using a 6536 rep case eta and get a white gmt dial and with fxrandys 2893 movement will be great but the backcase will be hard is this engraved? or stampped? this is perfect for the 2893 movement!

thats comes from not growing up i suffer from that too! as the saying goes you dont stop playing because you get old, you get old because you stop playing!!! this is very true!!!
