Any more news on this?

Lug holes drilled and larger spring bars fitted. I have not found any gen spring bars yet so the bars do not go to the end of the holes quite like the genuine rolex ones.

Any idea where I can get a gen rolex saphire crystal for a 16600. I want to get one AR coated. Thanks
-
Here is the crystal I am using at the moment it is the standard MBW with the corner sanded off to make it more dome like. How does this compare to the original rolex rather than the RSC crystals.

Here's a few pics of my on going MBW 5513 modification project. Watch as recieved from Verbal Kint (the bloke is a star) straight out of the package, standard MBW problems with bezel, CG,s and Crown. The watch is fitted with the 5512 dial but I will be fitting the 5513 gilt dial that was also supplied with the watch. I have missed out the standard strip down shots as these are well coverd elsewhere. Reference shot shown the standard MBW crown on the left, the nmodified CG's and a gen. crown on the right. This shows the iner CG's modified This is the jig I made for my Dremel to mod the outer CG's. This shows you the left hand guard after grinding right hand guard untouched. Both guards now modded, just need sanding and polishing. Check the overall look before final sanding and polishing by placing the bezel and new crown in place, looking good! Next installment, fitting the new crown and tube.

Hi I am modding an MBW 5513. Does any one know how the standard MBW crystal compares to a tropic 19? If it
-
Wow, that must be 20 mm thick when you put it on a Nato.

I want to buy an MBW no date vintage sub to go with my MBW 1665. I have seen the 5512 and 5513 with gilt dial. Does any body know if there is a non gilt 5513 ? or any other MBW no date subs. Also I am guessing the case of the 5512 is stamped

I have an MBW 1665 which has an ETA 2836 movement. I have already modified the keyless works to remove the quickset date function. When I fit my new WM date wheel I would like to disable the instantaneous date change and have the date change over a few hours like the gen. 1570 movement. Does anyone now in this is possible and relatively simple? Thanks

Guys Thanks for the information and comparisons, looks like I now need a superdome.

Hi Does any one have any comparison shots or opinions about the standard MBW 1665 crystal and a genuine tropic 39. Thanks

The MBW valve is just embossed into the surface. I thought it would be simple to drill out the stamping and glue in a stainless steel plug to improve the look. When I started to look at gens to see exactly what shape the plug should be I noticed they generally looked as if they were made from titanium or a different grade of stainless that doesn’t match the case. So should drill the case and plug it with titanium.

I am part way through a project to mod an MBW 1665 and have looked at a few gens on various sites. It looks to me that the gens have an HE valve made out of a different material to the case. Does any one no if this is titanium or something else? See the example from 'classic watches' Thanks

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...p;rd=1&rd=1 The 800m Gold plated sub is obviously a model I am not aware of.

Has anybody got the new upgraded Pan 111h from Davidsen. If so does the crown really have that split look or is it just the one in his photos.

Sometimes all the accuracy that goes into a fake is completely wasted. I showed my moded MBW 1680 to a colleague who supposedly knew something about high end watches, he said it was OBVIOUSLY a fake because it had a plastic crystal and the bezel turned in both directions!
-
Thanks for the suggestions. Is it possible to get anything for less than $50-60 shipped.

Does anybody know a source of reasonabley priced Gen Rolex 127 crystals, or a source of a good patern alternative. I have tried the once sold by Cousins and the profile and date mag don't appear correct. Thanks

I don't think the original hands were white gold. Here’s another pic that shows the kind thing I am trying to achieve.
-
In reality the striped hands don’t look as yellow as in the pic. I’ve attached a pic of a 1680 that is on the bay at the moments. If you compare the whiteness of the chrome on the hands to the whiteness of the stainless case they look more tarnished. That is the look I am trying to achieve. If you put a brand new set of chrome hands on the gen watch I think they would look much to bright. If you look at a new sub the hands will match the case. I have been told the dials and hands of the older plastic subs age because the plexi crystals let a water vapour through which discolours the dials and tarnishes the hand. Would welcome any other ideas as to how I could the get the right results.

I got the Tudor sub hands because the ‘Mercedes’ bit looked more genuine than the one the watch came with which was to small and the subdividers on the ball end are to thick. They look dull because I left some of the dirt on. I got them from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Clark-Watch-Parts . The only problem is the second hand was to long and I reused the standard second hand.

I have done al the usual mods to my MBW 1680 but have never been happy that the bright shiny hands went with the rest of the vintage look I wanted. Have brought a set of none gen Tudor sub hand and striped off some of the chrome. What do you think?
