I think if you pass your rep 1665 MBW or PT to someone who starts to consider the height of the lug holes then they know so much about gens that the gig is blown anyway.
This is an ofrei pearl fitted to a standard MBW insert. The insert is very soft so I carefully opened up the hole from both side with small file. If you drill it and the drill catches I think you will distort the insert.
You also need to sand the insert thinner, so it goes further into the bezel, creating a small lip.
I have an old MBW GW 1665 dial on my desk at the moment and it measures 26.7mm across so you should be OK.
Have ordered the PT 1665 as a movement and date wheel donor for my MBW project, I will try and do a comparison between the 2 cases when the PT one turns up.
I love the lightweight flexibility of the old style folded bands they seem poor to start with but once they get a bit of wear and the edges knocked off they are great. I keep trying heaver modern bands on my 5512 but always go back to the folded type. You might need the weight on a Deep Sea in order to balance the weight of the watch but it’s just not needed on a light weight plexi sub.
Try temporarily turning the bracelet round, if it's an end link problem the problem will switch to the other side of the case, if its a case problem the gap will stay in the same place.
The outsides look ok. The insides look a bit rough though the horn should meet the body of the watch with a nice sharp corner and not a soft radius like you have. You can sort this out with a nice sharp triangular file. You will have to remove the crown though.
Following on from freddy333’s review of the sprung folded 20mm oyster from Yuki, I contacted Yuki about a non spring 20mm oyster and got the following reply.
'Thank you for your email and interest.
We are go to produce the non spring folded 20mm oyster band.
If we can success to product.
Hope can start sale next month.'
I agree. The ND sub is THE classic watch. IMHO it was the first watch to get it right in terms of size, construction, legibility etc. All dive watches can trace their development back to it, that’s why it is basically the same today.
I’m building a new 1665 GW comprising
MBW Case
MBW Great White Dial
2846
Clark superdome
Gen Crown and tube
Etc. Etc.
All I need now is a date wheel. I have been searching for months for a Gen 6694 date wheel with no luck. What is the best actual, available, buyable date wheel option.
I am thinking my only hope would be Chris at Eurotimez with an MBW type.
You could also PM me if you have anything interesting.
Cheers
Why bother to spend more, this just demonstrates that even the very best rep is only similar to the gen and won’t fool people who know what they are looking when viewed side by side. But I’m sure your watch would fool 100% of the people you meet every day as it is now or weather you mod it further.
