  1. Interestingly, if you take the UK price for the 32GB 3G ipad in $$, and deduct the costs listed above, you get this: $870 - $288 = $582 Most analysts think that apple have a very large amount of room to manoeuvre with the ipad's price structure
  2. It has been taken apart here: isuppli link Estimated base model costs starting at $230, based on individual parts value, and it will continually get cheaper obviously, the big mark up comes with the 3G chip and larger 32/64GB capacity models.... This chart is even more revealing:
  3. Let's just hope the competition drives the price WAY down, because one thing I think anyone would agree on, is that the ipad was expensive for what you get when released in the USA, and now in the UK the price is totally crazy, heaven knows the mark up apple make on these things..... I would say I am far from a "n00b" as you put it. I was Oc'ing AMD AXIA's as you say, and the pentium 3's before that too. I remember finding a special stepping PIII 750mhz chip to run 1000mhz by upping the fsb to 150 from 133, hitting the magic 1000mhz on air was quite a thrill at the time, took me a while to find some ram up for the job if I remember right. I've messed around with phase change cooling, and high end air, but now run a quiet water cooled setup. Although getting my Q9650 to run 4050mhz does not have quite the same feel as it did back in the day You will find a lot of tech savvy peeps don't necessarily look at the world through apple shaped glasses And yes I have had a play with one in store, wasn't impressed, re: giant itouch......
  4. Of course you can compare PC style hardware specs, people have been doing that for years! Contrary to what you may believe, apple products are not works of art, all though they are priced as such! The facts are that the ipad is an incredibly weak piece of hardware and technology (giant itouch), with extremely limited connectivity, closed OS, and not even a standard screen format, and yet it is priced in the £429.99-699.99 price range, which is just utterly insane! Peeps are buying it yes, I actually feel sorry for them. Hype, hype, hype..... As for the German device it looks excellent doesn't it? What the ipad should have been really, then this thread would not have been as it is. Without the PR/hype machine of the mighty fruit I doubt it will impact the ipad, but the sensible, tech savvy people (Read: Not peeps with more money than sense) will love it
  5. It's more expensive here whatever way you look at it VAT or not, period. So yeah £699.99 (just over $1000) for the top of the line (massive) 64GB model () is such a great value purchase! You do get 3G after all Weak, over priced, over hyped rubbish, but it has an apple stuck on it. The Germans have the right idea, at least their machine has decent specs and a non ludicrous price point.....
  6. So your backing up Apples policy of overpricing their under-speced products in the UK/EU markets now? I guess that's why you imported one.....
  7. If there is enough demand they will make more, that is how we got to this re-release position in the first place, I just hope it won't take another eight months or so for the next round!
  8. Interesting, these gold ceramic cases must be tricky to source then. I count myself lucky I got in on this first batch, I just hope it is not the first and only batch! Mine should be here Tuesday I hope
  9. Anyone seen the German answer to the slate PC, and ipad? Looks quite feature packed too Looks like the Germans simply corrected everything that is wrong with the ipad, and improved upon it even more, selling a good piece of hardware is better than selling hype
  10. People with ipads, or who want an ipad, seem to think every other device shares the total and utter lack of connectivity that the ipad has..... I will probably pick up a slate PC at some stage, but you can bet that it will be the most powerful and feature packed one that you can find, not the exact oppose (read ipad)
  11. Ah yes I forgot it's OK to rip off the buyer if they are ignorant.......
  12. The bottom of the line base model ipad costs £429.99 in the UK, which is about $630, so when you say nobody pays 630bucks for one that is not quite true, you do if you're in the UK People would be better off getting a friend to import one from the US, if they really must have one....
  13. No the base model is $499 in the US, not $630 I know people are buying them, I also know sales staff that are laughing at them for doing so
  14. I hope it's not a bank holiday where you are, it is here in the UK and it's delaying my Hublot delivery!
  15. Crazy, somebody got ripped off......
  16. Tried that, but it makes no difference, you have to edit your primary address to a German one, some sellers might not like that Still I may be able to snag that Foxconn X48 board I hope
  17. Yes, I noticed that I found this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290432575745&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp3907.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D290432575745%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1 But I cannot order, also I cannot tell if the board has the aircooling heatsink, or only the water block? I have messaged him, but no reply yet I have my eye on a foxconn x48 board that is ending in a day or so, this one is in the UK though
  18. Hey thanks Andy, 184,90€ is a great price, I suppose it depends on shipping and if VAT is added? However it says it is no longer available if you try to buy? The formula X48 board is nice, but uses DDR2 not DDR3, it just goes to show what a great deal the ebay.de sale was, and that X48 boards are hard to find now...... Cheers!
  19. Beautiful, I would buy it if they replicated it
  20. Just in case, might be worth unplugging the power and removing the little button cell battery from the board for half an hour or so, that has brought some boards back to life for me Are you 100% sure the internal floppy drive works OK? If it does, the BIOS probably has a corrupt boot sector, any you will need a new chip.... I live in TW9 area
  21. Avitt can bead blast, but he is not on this board any more, you would need to check the other boards, he is based in the USA
  22. Really nice, I love unbranded watches
