How Many Of You Have Actually Worked On Your Watches?
gioarmani replied to crystalcranium's topic in General Discussion
I guess I'm a 5--no drilling, per se, but have reassembled a 2836 movement for oiling (via pictures I took from each stage of the disassembly). Still can't do a damn 2671 though... -
How about this gen? Very handsome looking watch. Chrono version: Without chronos: The Tiffany's Mark T-57. Existant Eta movement: And here are some of the neat gadgets we've seen elsewhere as well (this demo shows the model with the optional vulcanized rubber): And if you wish too stay away from chronos, I think the regular version of this piece still makes an extremely fine looking watch; a nice combination of sporty & elegant at the same time--equally matches a Billabong wetsuit as it would an Saville Row suit. Being that the gen is only around $2,000 I think it's a perfect middle ground to start a rep from--not using a gen that's too cheap or from a company that's not well branded & easily recognized, and it's not using a gen that's too expensive or from a brand that's too high-end for a lot of people to pull off.
-
I wish they'd rep this one--the Tiffany's Mark T-57: Because $3,000 for an Eta is just plain nuts.
-
Yes--short lived, but definitely was a gen. Tiffany's has had their name stamped on Rolex, Cartier & plenty of others--now the have Baume & Mercier.
-
Out of curiosity, how do they adjust the beat? Is it by A, B, or C, or what other parts/method? Thanks
-
I guess I'll have to--it's already running 30 seconds fast in 6-7 hours.

Speaking from a sales perspective, I think over the long term the greatest ROI one could possibly make from creating a new watch, would be the duplication of a Rolex. Simply put, more people have had & will have those over any other brand (i.e., everyones been through a Rolex at one point, but not everyone will necessarily own a Vacheron, IWC, U Nardin, etc.). If it were my money being invested in a new creation, I'd bet either an exact replica of the Sub, SD, or GMT would probably bring in the most money. And if it's a 1:1 match, most people will bypass every other dealer's model around--including the MBWs--to pay through the nose for something that even beginers can easily add gen parts to. Hell, it'd practically be a gen straight from the box, if it's done right. I know I'd buy one; and I bet 60% of the rest of the board would too eventually. I think that's where you'll get your biggest return on investment.

A Free Christmas Present For All The Members Here.

No there's no intended particular theme, just came out jazzed it up a bit at the begining and went more classical towards the end. -
My girl has a Ladies Datejust model with the gold-plated 2671-2 movement in it. I found it running extremely fast (20-30 min a day) after I had over-oiled it, and took it to have it serviced & rebuilt a couple weeks ago. I got it back Tuesday, and I find it's still running about a minute or so fast a day. I shot some pics of the movement itself and labeled the only 3 parts (I know of) to adjust the beat/timing of the watch. It seems like nothing I do can properly regulate the watch--either it runs a little fast, or it runs a lot fast: Looking at the picture above, I find that the closer you move B towards A, the movement runs a lot faster (I'm guessing because it shortens the stroke on the part with the spring). I haven't tried moving A towards B yet, as I figure this will have the same effect. On another Ladies Eta 2671-2 she has, I've got the watch regulated to my computer's digital clock and it's almost exact to the second every day. On that particular watch, I never had to adjust A or B, because C seemed to to the trick. On the other watch (using this pic as an example) if you turned C toward the left (clockwise) it slowed the movement down, and sped it up if you turned it to the right (counter clockwise). I'm guessing unless somehow these two 2671's are different, the same apply to this one as well? On the above movement, I've got A & B about as far apart from each other as they'll go and have C all the way to the left (which seems to be slower on the other movement). Now in the 15 minutes it's taken me to shoot & write this, the watch shown above is already running 2 seconds or so fast. Am I going about this the wrong way, or is there anything else I can do to properly get this watch regulated? And is it possible that this particular 2671 is just a piece of garbage? Thanks again for your assistance. (Here's a shot from the opposite side of the same movement, if you need it)

More like Celebrity Death Match.

You gotta love the anal-rash...

Is it true--in terms of normal wear & tear/breakage--that it doesn't matter (even on the 7750 Asians) if you let the chronos constantly run, instead of always keeping them off? I thought I read somewhere that their constant running was either irrelevant or might actually help them. I could be off on this one, but I could have sworn I've seen that from The Zigmeister or someone... And does anyone know if it's actually worth springing for the new secs @ 6 swiss movemnt (i.e. Josh's Daytona), instead of the new Asian secs @ 6? Or is that one also a time-bomb because of the extra gears needed to make it run @ 6?

Cheers--thanks for the compliments all of you. Enjoy. -
Here's a zip file of a mix-CD I put together, that we've been listening to lately. I think it puts one in the Christmas spirit, if you aren't already. I've tried to combine some lesser known songs that aren't played to death on the radio stations, and perhaps some you haven't heard before (or weren't necessarily assosiated with Christmas)--all in all, I think it works pretty well together. I've put them in MP3 format & uploaded it using Rapidshare, so just click the link below, then click "Free", then wait for the countdown, enter the code it gives you & d/l to your hard-drive. It is a zipfile, so you'll need WinZip (free internet d/l) on PC, or Stuffit on Mac to unzip the file. 20 tracks in all; I hope you guys & gals enjoy, and Merry Christmas! 1) The Christmas Song—Nat King Cole & Frank Sinatra 2) Good Morning Blues—Ella Fitzgerald 3) Christmas Time Is Here—Diana Krall 4) I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm—Billie Holiday 5) Boogie-Woogie Santa Claus—Lionel Hampton Orchestra 6) Dig That Crazie Santa Claus—Ralph Marterie Orchestra 7) The Christmas Blues—Dean Martin Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas—Frank Sinatra 9) Carol Of The Bells (A Capella)—Boys Choir of Harlem 10) Dance Of The Sugar Plum Fairy (Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite)—The Philadelphia Symphony 11) Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!—Frank Sinatra 12) The Christmas Song—Nat King Cole, solo 13) Deck The Halls—Nat King Cole 14) O Little Town Of Bethlehem—Nat King Cole 15) I Saw Three Ships—Nat King Cole 16) Caroling, Caroling—Nat King Cole 17) Silent Night—Nat King Cole 18) Ave Maria—Luciano Pavaroti & Placido Domingo 19) Carol Of The Bells (Orchestra Version)—The Vienna Boys Choir 20) Ode to Joy (9th Symphony, 4th Movement, Ludwig Von Beethoven)—London Symphonic Orchestra http://rapidshare.com/files/5336331/Xmas_mix.zip.html

I've heard it called, "Carol of the Bells", but also "Choir of Bells". I believe the first is the most common name.

Tommy's Solid 18k White Gold Rolex President Franken-gen

I dunno, to each his own, but unless you actually own the hotel/club/restaurant you're wearing that in to, no one's buying that. And you better not be driving yourself there. -

I Need A New Camera, Any Thoughts On A Good One
gioarmani replied to milwaukee's topic in The looney bin
If I could throw in my two cents, if you're just looking for simple, inexpensive, point & shoot, you can't go wrong with the Canon Powershot--brilliant color. Since I quit shooting for a living, the Powershot's all I use for my basic 'round-the-house stuff (and all my shots on here). They're generally around $300 bucks, and they have excellent macro (close-up) capabilities. If you're not doing too much enlarging past your typical family photo-album 4x6in prints, you don't really need anything bigger than 5 megapixels--don't let the store salesman waste your money. If you're looking to invest long-term in a worthwhile hobby (other than watches ), an SLR is definitely the way to go. -
Nice on Mac too--Firefox & Safari.

Fantastic piece.

Bump. I guess this plan fizzled out?

First quote: "I hear there's rumors on the Internets that we're going to have a draft." —second presidential debate, St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 8, 2004 Second quote: Bush using "The Google", probably on the internets. http://thinkprogress.org/2006/10/23/bush-s...ses-the-google/ I hope history will duely record this fool as one of the most ignorant, uneducated, and just plain worthless men to ever enter American politics (if he hasn't already carved it in stone himself). He's single-handedly made me question whether Americans should even be allowed to vote.

It was on Youtube...let me see if I can find it.

Does no one pay attention to Bush?! It's "internets".
