  1. Not that this website is any authority on movements but form your own conclusion with regards to the 2836-1 Movement. From my research, it does look like an older movement, I wonder if these makers found a surplus of old stuff ?? http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi...&ETA_2836_1 But according to this site, the specifications are: ETA 2836-1 Features automatic sweep second day: quickset, 2 languages date: quickset hack feature Data 11.5''', Dm= 25.6mm, H= 5.05mm 17/21/25 jewels f = 28800 A/h power reserve 40h
  2. I mistyped in my original post obviously... but ETA does make a 2836-1 , I was going to find the difference last night but simply was to tired.. will look for it today unless someone gets to it before me. edit: also, it appears as though I may be wrong on the 116200, I dont think it's a white dial milgauss but a datejust model. sorry for the mixup.
  3. As promised, I have purchased this Rolex Milgauss Black Dial to do a review. Model: Rolex Milgauss 116400V Movement: ETA 2836-1 Sapphire: Genuine Green Crystal with AR coating (coating has a green/blue hue) Bracelet: Oyster w/Easylock system Extras: Faraday Cage Anti-Magnetic Shielding System Measurements as taken by a digital caliper are as follows: Case w/crown: 42mm Case w/out crown: 39.75mm Case Back to Sapphire top thickness: 12.60mm Lug Width: 20mm Bracelet at Clasp: 16mm This Limited Edition Milguass 116400V M-Series watch has been called one of the most collectible modern watches ever. It's French name suggest high resistance to magnetic fields (with magnetic flux density up to 1,000 gauss) and (The Genuine) a perfect choice for someone who works in close proximity of high magnetic fields, the replica... not so sure what that surround is made of. The stainless steel case is 40mm (actually measured at 39.75mm) in diameter with the aforementioned green sapphire crystal and with text on the caseback. The case also features the desirable smooth bezel, and polished center links on the Oyster bracelet. The genuine case is water resistant to 100 meters, the replica.. you try first and report back.. lol This watch is a pleasant surprise to someone who is not thrilled with the idea of owning a Rolex (that's me!). It does not emanate that flashy jubilee look at me sparkle and will not likely be the first watch in the crowd called out as a replica. As far as accuracy goes, the coronet seems accurately placed on the dial and the fonts are all pretty accurate except for the "Milgauss" where the lettering is too thick, the spacing of the swiss made is spot on as well. I think that the second hand is just a little too short but only by around 1mm. The color of the second hand is pretty close but could be just a tad darker imo. The model number is accurately stamped between the lugs "116400", what I do not know is if the genuine says "Orig Rolex Design 116400" maybe someone can confirm this wording on a genuine for me. What is glaringly inaccurate is the case back. I have not seen a genuine with a holographic sticker (not in any of the pictures I have found thus far) and the model stamped on the holographic sticker says 116200 which is not a model number for a Milgauss. I do not know if all of these have this error, it may just be a mistake on mine, but as previously noted, the case is accurately stamped between the lugs. Now for some pictures: Please be sure to look at the genuine and replica comparisons. GENUINE: REPLICA: GENUINE: REPLICA: GENUINE: REPLICA: GENUINE: REPLICA: Some additional pictures for your viewing pleasure.. Here's an interesting picture I took... I wanted to catch the AR reflection in the black glass table that I shoot on because I thought it would show a saturation of the blue and green hue that I said was present in the AR coating, the black defused the green in the AR and with the incorrect position of my lighting you can see a green AR feathered across the sapphire..
  4. I have sold a dozen v2 skylands and have had movement problems with 3 of them. I have sold 2 dozen V1 and did not have a problem with any of them. My very good friend babola had a problem with 2 consecutive ones I sent him,, they are ticking time bombs imo.. yet... wearing mine frequently without an issue... ?? lol .. ?? it's Russian Roulette I guess.
  5. Not a rolex guy so I wont pretend to know what the inside of the two cases look like, but regardless,, it will always help if you can supply a picture so it is better understood what is striking what.. I'm sure you will find a way through some help here to get it in there..
  6. The guy is shady, Hont was breaking away from him when I pulled him on board at RWI. He and Hont were business partners, has a room full of people that sit on IM and will chat with you. Everything was swiss to them,, no clue what AR coating was, etc.. until I worked with Hont and hont explained differences to them. He has benefited from me working with Hont teaching him movement differences, etc.. Hont did not completely break away from him until about 2 or 3 weeks of me working with him to get him "forum ready". You might get luck as the guy above did,, but these guys are 9 months removed from not having a clue.
  7. Still in love with my 07 Cousteau Diver..
  8. Ok, I'll throw in my passion for pistols and target shooting. I truly enjoy developing my skills of accurately shooting a pistol for distance and speed. Only carry it now when I am volunteering for events with the Sheriff's Department (deputized) and large bank deposit days. Here is my Omega UPO with stock lume (I am seriously considering buying a gen dial and hands and asking The Zigmeister to do his work) and my Glock 30 .45acp where I lumed the sights with RC-Tritech SuperLuminova.
  9. Maybe there is a correlation between Musicians (players and spinners.. lol) and Watches... maybe it's enjoying the finer things in life.. ? Stephane, that is a very nice setup! @scoobs,, I have not learned the keyboard yet but am trying to self teach myself the Hammond B3 Organ w/122 Leslie. I also play LP Giovani Series Conga and Quinta.. best sounding drum I have ever heard! Also mix on a Allen & Heath GL2400-32 and mixing live applications is my strongest point.. but I had to get out of the booth and play a little.. so I am semi-retired from that.
  10. I'd like to start a wrist check but a unique one. An ongoing one.. With some luck, we will learn more about each other.. maybe find some new friends with similar hobbies. Hopefully we can keep this thread going.. You have to include wrist shots depicting your other favorite hobbies other than collecting watches. Dont display your whole life in one post.. let's hit one hobby at a time.. but different shots of the same hobby is always welcome To kick it off I will start by posting my obvious obsession with drumming. This is my 2nd pair of gloves this year.. (I'm white collar with soft hands..lol) and my favorite pair of Vic Firth (Steve Gadd) sticks..
  11. Have a team going on RWI but not very many people jumping in on it (not surprising,, these are watch forums.. not sports) but none the less... some of us do share common interests.. . It would be a pleasure to have some members from RWG play with us. Pollow this ESPN Link: http://games.espn.go.com/ffl/tools/join?leagueId=512283 and the team password: darkside Hope to see some of you sign up. Thanks for the off topic section RWG.
  12. One think I am shocked to not see is the fact that on the SFSO , the blue and black dial, the impression of each indice was obvious against these colors, but not visible with the white dial. The glossy(er) black and blue dials make impressions more apparent, the dull slate color of Skyland was a safe choice for me for this reason. Admin LegendofSpeed on RWI told me that he held the Black and Slate side by side and said that this effect was more apparent on the black dial but non existent on the slate one. I receive this second hand but believe that he has a trained eye and I can rely on this observation as fact. Maybe it is different from one watch to another.. but this was the case with the ones he was holding.
  13. I have the same size wrist... it is fine.. Also.. if you measure a 111H from one side of the case to the other side of the crown guard... you will have about the same thing if not a little larger.. this watch is not too big for you! Here is a wrist shot... (you can see my "pannie line" on my hand .. lol)
  14. You are correct. I was a little surprised.. needless to say.. those were removed when I resized the bracelet.
  15. Breitling Skyland (v2) Review I wanted to purchase this watch because I have owned very few Breitling in the last couple years. This appealed to me because I wanted a sporty, rugged stainless steel watch that will look good on a bracelet or leather strap. It was also important to me that it have a quality bracelet and have a double AR Coating. The Skyland met all of these needs! Some quick measurements that are worth noting about this watch. Lug Size = 22mm Bracelet = 22mm which tapers to 20mm at the deployant Case to crown = 49.5mm Case back to Crystal = 18mm It's weight is unparalleled! Please see the comparisons below. Breitling Skyland (on bracelet) = 237.8 grams IWC Cousteau'07 (on rubber)= 152.3 grams Panerai 111H (on leather) = 130.5 grams I specifically desired a watch with a deep chapter ring. I really like like the looks of some many Breitling and IWC watchs except that they have small dials in comparison to their cases. It is my opinion that a deep chapter ring makes a smaller dial look bigger. I chose the Grey dial option because I felt the matte color will not show the indentation of each number on the dial. An example of these indentations can be found on the black and blue versions of the Steel Fish. I also have spotted this same effect on the Skyland with the black and possibly the blue versions. I feel that this effect is magnified on the glossy dials. Also notice the 1/2 textured sub dials. The vertical lines give it some personality. The details of the crown & pushers and the size of the case are astounding. I have not owned a chronograph where so much detail has been paid to the pushers, the Skyland really impresses. I feel the crown could have been a little bit better. The "B" is not as defined as I have seen on other models, but still not bad. It should note that the threads are much better/thicker than that of the Steel Fish however I could not find the beginning of the threads easily by turning it counter clockwise...odd.. The Bezel is very nice with bezel screws at 5, 10, 20, 25, 35, 40, 50 & 55. A nicely etched "B" appears just to the left of the pearl position. The etching on the bezel is better than I've seen before in the aspect that I do not see the machining inside each number. The hash marks seem to be of consistent spacing around the bezel. The pearl is high quality and is nicely centered (unlike the blackbird). The font used on the bezel is spot on.. almost perfect! Although I have only found 1 image of a genuine case back (a small image) it appears to be relatively correct. The bracelet on this watch is better than that which was on the Steel Fish. I have received this opinion from supermanx as well. It has high quality screws that hold those links in. I did not have any problems with them, none were seized or stripped. Sizing was easy! The bracelet is nicely numbered as well. this is a nice bonus. The single deployant clasp is very nice. It has a tight fit but is a little sharp. This can easily be fixed with a little sand paper. The detail on the clasp and catch are very good. The case back (which fits very snug) protects an asian high beat (28,800) 7750 movement. Crack open that case back and apply silicone grease to that gasket for better water resistance!
  16. Indeed, thanks for sharing.. I almost did not get it even though I'm in love with it (does not really make sense) Mine will be delivered tomorrow..then I will try like hell to take some nice pictures of it.
  17. Yeah guys,, this is kind of new to me even though I have seen these types of threads before... I'm not up on Rolex because I have not been much of a fan but I fell in love with an Anniversary Milgauss when a friend of mine (Rolex AD) pulled one out of the safe and let me try it on. I could kick myself for not finding a way to buy it. Also really liking the ceramic dial GMTII ... so I figured I would begin searching, etc.. Hoping the fresh crop of noobs would learn with me..
  18. Expecting a a couple years not quite up to par.. .but it should be some interesting football. I got tired of the drop back and pass to the sideline at the line of scrimmage. It got a little bit predictive after 500 attempts in the previous year. Sending Lloyd Carr off with a victory was a fantastic feeling... beating Florida in the Bowl Game..
  19. Your probably right.. the sophistication of the process is likely costing a lot of money.. Let's not forget that when things cool down on watches.. we see a big price decrease... easily argued that it is because the costs of replication have now been covered.. lol.. I'm sure it is covered in one good days worth of advertising and sales on the forums... but .. whatever.. Here is a video taken of an assembly shop for replica watches.. 500 to 1000 watches can be produced in this guys house... http://www.hautehorlogerie.org/spip.php?pa...id_article=1832 come on guys.. dont fool yourself here.. there is a lot of common sense that you can reference when you ask yourself why watches have increased in price as they have. But chances are that you will only see the Larger Prices attached to the "Genuine Fake Watches"... the Genuine ones folks.. stay away from the Genuine Fakes..
  20. I need to improve my knowledge in Rolex, so I was doing some reading.. .I came across this article.. I think people forget that even the genuine is not always perfect. I guess this makes me really question which is the correct.. when they all seem to be "correct". :x Ok, I have reposted a repost.. anyway... I'm sure it will be an interesting read for someone... so ... here it is.. I will copy some of the content here for .. but the link to the original article is here: http://www.minus4plus6.com/paracromblu16710.htm I posted below some of the most relevant to our hobby, things we pick apart on a daily basis.. but there is more than just this in the link I posted above. Below are pictures of various 16170 anomalies. Click on an image for a larger picture. 1. "-" is shifted to one side on Rectangular II. 2. "Oyster Perpetual Date" has larger spacing in between on Rectangular II. 3. "Swiss Made" is smaller on Rectangular II. 4. The rim on hour markers are thicker on Stick II. You can see the "-" has shifted Difference in spacing and line weight Swiss Made is smaller on the II dial Thicker hour markers on the II dial Oyster Perpetual Date spacing is wider
  21. @RobbieG, Indeed.. we all have different opinions on the definitions of greed... I will take a page out of the Dealer book and apply it to my pocketbook... I want to have more of it in there..... To overplay devils advocate on this issue has lead to Paralysis by Analysis.. plain and simple. Main Entry: greed Pronunciation: \ˈgrēd\ : a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (as money) than is needed I'm sorry.. I think I hit it on the head... but I'm sure it can be argued in 500 other different ways ... which also leads to paralysis by analysis.
  22. Forged from Gens... lol.. and they still manage to f**k them up on a daily basis.. I do not see the weak dollar in the whole issue as the prices quoted to me are in RMB and it has shot through the roof. @dluddy.. drama is over rated.. what we need.. is more cow bell..
