1. How do I follow an Ubi post? From my hike tonight...
2. Another one from a favorite climb, this is the north side of McHugh peak climbing out of the clouds. North Suicide peak and Ptarmigan peak are across the valley above Rabbit lake.
3. Here's a Photosynth panorama from the weekend, below the foothills heading back home.
4. There's an app called Photosynth that I use to capture 360 degree panoramas of places I go. I think it's still free, so here's an idea: How about if we use this thread to share Photosynth panoramas of "where we live"? It would be a neat way to immerse ourselves "inside" a 3D panorama of another member's location. I'll upload one from where I live so you can see what I mean.
5. Praetor, it depends what I'm doing. If I'm going somewhere epic I'll bring my cell phone, insulated inside my backpack so the battery lasts. So they can find my corpse if necessary. Otherwise I just carry the Scout Essentials in a backpack with some water and high calorie snacks. I have a Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS watch that's a fun toy but I never bring it anymore. When I go out, I expect to be alone and I expect to be able to find my way back out, or I shouldn't be out there. Maps and a compass are a must-have. For snaux biking it's Mountain Hardwear Gore-Tex Tech fleece pants, Smartwool bottoms and a zip t-neck, Smartwool socks and Montrail Couloir boots, and a wind proof fleece or wool top. Marmot Randonee gloves and a double thick wool hat. Then I can peel off layers and unzip to vent and stay dry. For hiking and walking its the same but a thin hat and thin gloves, so I don't overheat. For cold camping (anything below -35F) I wear a HUGE Marmot down coat as the final layer, a beaver fur hat, O.R. mitts, and old Army canvas high top zip mukluks with Sorel 100 Below liners. I use a Mountain Hardwear King Tut down sleeping bag and two closed cell foam ground pads over a tarp in a snow trench. This evening I was out hiking in a -30F wind chill so it was wind proof fleece, Mtn Hardwear pants and a thin hat and gloves. Toasty toasty.
6. Yep. Oh, wait. Or am I supposed to wrestle the bear?
7. You're on! I'll trade my precious little tundra flower for your completed red-line build. I know that's a big demand, but she's a rare gem.
8. Holy Schmolies. Do you take children in trade?
9. There are much quicker ways to dry your watch. Exercise caution however, there is a slight chance you'll hurt your seals with this method.
10. Geese chasing you? This is why God made golf clubs. FORE! Okay, okay .... that was in poor taste.
11. It has come to my attention this member is attempting to sell a 5517 replica as a genuine watch on eBay. This is strictly against RWG rules, as such he is banned. Gentlemen, it's fine to research and build accurate representations of historic pieces. But it is never okay to attempt to pass them off as genuines. Nor to attempt to sell them as such.
12. That's another funny thing... why do people shriek and run when a goose chases them? You see it all the time. Hey look, it's time for t-ball practice! That brownie was maybe 100 yards away. I wasn't after his food and he didn't want to eat anything I had so we were fine. Mutual understanding.
13. Ha, those were in my front yard! Don't you know we Arctic dwellers live in igloos and fight polar bears to get to the mail box?! Just ask Asciwhite. Seriously, he's the newest addition at the zoo. My friend works there so I was able to get right up close and personal. Yep. Too darn close. WAY too darn close. This is as close as I like to get out in the wild.
14. This is a little better picture, this time I took the pics off my phone before I sized them down. It seemed to keep the image quality a little better.
15. Thanks, now it lives in the EU. Crazy thing is, I miss it!
16. Here's how far I took my old MBW (circa 1997). Gen triplock crown, insert and T39 superdome crystal. It was mounted to an old Paul's 1680 ETA movement, hence the silver datewheel. The crystal made the dial even better. Mine was ivory from age, the only thing I didn't like much was how deep red the lettering was. I wished it was a brighter red, otherwise I was very pleased.

17. There's a huge northern lights display going on tonight! Whoop whoop! My iPhone camera won't pick them up, darnit.
18. I took these today. He's a big boy! Probably close to 800 or 1,000 lbs.
19. Thanks! All original MkII except for the replaced Superdome 39 (also gen).
20. It's a great way to show someone "this is where I live". Here's the north side of McHugh peak with north Suicide peak in the distance. Great climb!
21. Heading out for some more great Alaskan wilderness. The sun is up and it's above zero now. Time to go!
22. Finland sounds very much like Alaska, but we have four huge mountain ranges too. And over 1,000,000 lakes larger than an acre. If you have the Photosynth app here is a panorama I took today.
23. Beautiful cold bluebird day today, perfect for a ride.
24. SCM, was that the Kenai Fjords boats? I might have been on one of your trips! It was snowing sideways in Seward so we went north instead. We had a great lunch in the shadow of The Rock and walked the river bank among the pressure ice. The wind chill was -20F but the skies were blue so it was all worth it. What a glorious day for a birthday!
