  1. It's not the solution you want to hear, but you're gonna have to grind that crystal retaining ring way down anyway to get the super-thin rehaut that a 6536/42 has. My rehaut stands very slightly proud of the case, and my retaining ring is triangular in cross section. This accomodates my very thin bezel and equally thin insert. How about if you grind down your retaining ring until all the parts fit, then apply a flaring tool (like for plumbing work) to flare out a new lip around the top edge, onto which your bezel will snap? I still think your insert is so thick that it will never fit completely down into the bezel properly. How about a thicker bezel with a deeper channel?
  2. Ah but there are times Chuck Norris is not actually kicking butt. In those times he is doing constructive things like practicing his teatime etiquette. Honest. So Sarah Barracuda might be doing similarly benign things like cleaning her moose rifle.
  3. Amen to that. To the "rough men that stand ready to do violence on our behalf" .... THANK YOU.
  4. A few things that are floating around the Web about Sarah Palin had me concerned. They seemed completely out of character for her. Until today, when I received an analysis piece that dug into the claims and laid out their analysis, with derived facts. I feel much better now. THIS is the gal we know and love. http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/sliming_palin.html
  5. Do a lot of reading and get to know the various weird combinations Rolex produced for their models... then shop armed with that knowledge. I picked up my 1675 a year and a half ago for $2800 because it had a rare dial. The other bidders were afraid of it, unsure if it had a genuine dial. So I got it for a steal.
  6. Verrrrrrrry nice! I like them a lot except that "2" in the insert in the first picture is just SO squared off on the one on the left!
  7. Roger that, my friend... a few hundred stitches later, I can agree with you "from the other side" of the learning curve. At least, I *think* I'm over the learning curve. I hope. Yikes!
  8. I was just thinking about how good life is to me and my family, and it occurred to me that I am surely not alone. So tell me, what are YOU thankful for? Me, I'm thankful for health and a strong body, my family, my friends, and for opportunities in life.
  9. Y'know what I'd do? I would take her $5,000 and add $5,000 of my own money, and get the $10,000 sapphire bezel FF. Think of what that would represent to her.
  10. Michael Jordan tried it... didn't work. Armstrong would be a fool to do it. But then again he already acted the fool and divorced that ever-patient wife of his. So maybe he's ready. I've lost a lot of respect for the man.
  11. Best advice: don't waste money on a watch that is "almost" the right piece. You'll never be satisfied with it and will wind up spending more in the long run. Save for the sapphire bezel model.
  12. IWC 372301 I came *that* close (holds fingers up real close together) to buying a gen in Atlantic City.
  13. My gosh, you moved in next door to JETMID!!!
  14. Welcome back! I can't see your photos on my iPhone but I bet they're sweet.
  15. You could use "B" and attempt to match the 6542 details to the bezel so they're period appropriate. But I'd say to go with the "A" bezel more for the reason of distinctly setting it apart from a NCG Sub case. I mean, what's to stop me from dropping in a GMT movement in my 6536, using my coin edge bezel with a bakelite insert, and calling it a 6542? You can avoid that with bezel "A".
  16. Get her one of these. It's a white porcelain face, solid gold, and elegant. This one is for the delightful Ms. Nanuq.
  17. A is definitely most accurate tho not quite right. B is for the 6536/6538/5508/5510 and it's even sorts wrong too. Considering what was even available 8 years ago both are lightyears better than that. Go with A but get it made from (poorly) plated brass.
  18. Welcome aboard!
  19. Excellent news! Now you can actually VOTE all those misplaced and wrong minded political opinions you hold! Ain't America great?!!

    Kit List

Start with the 10 Scout Essentials (notice there are no flashlights on this list) and add in what will fit in your pockets. Some of these won't fit, but it's a starting point if you have a backpack. For mountain biking I use a small daypack and I bring compass, map, matches, tire kit, first aid, mirror, water. Scout Essentials 1. Map and Compass 2. Sun and Insect Protection 3. Water Bottles filled with disinfected water 4. Rain Gear and extra layered clothing 5. First Aid Kit 6. Matches 7. Tell someone your itinerary 8. Extra food 9. Pocket Knife 10. Watch For backpacking you can use as guidelines some of the checklists I've put together for my Troop: http://www.nanuq-alaska.net/Troop215/packdiagram.jpg http://www.nanuq-alaska.net/Troop215/backpackchklist.htm http://www.nanuq-alaska.net/Troop215/summerlist.jpg http://www.nanuq-alaska.net/Troop215/winterlist.jpg
  21. Well said. Precisely. A democracy demands a well-informed populace. "What did I give you? A republic, if you can keep it". -B. Franklin
  22. Good Lord, man ... NEVER use my name and hers together in the same sentence! She has Google and knows how to use it.
  23. Yep ... Politics as usual. Wait till you REALLY get to know her! The son of our senator, Ben Stevens, once replied nastily that people from the Matanuska - Susitna valley are "Valley Trash". She gleefully jumped on that and now refers to herself as Valley Trash to kind of stick a knife in his ribs. So I coined a new phrase: "Valley Trash to Valley Forge" GO GET 'EM SARAH!!!
  24. It's not that I'm heartless or anything, but I don't understand the crises (plural). Hurricane force winds are the norm here and we don't see that kind of devastation or anxiety. 70mph winds on Turnagain Arm mean it's a good day for windsurfing. 100mph winds in town are bothersome. Yawn. Ask Sarah Palin about wind storms, being from the Matanuska - Susitna valley! The delightful Ms. Nanuq spent the weekend in the mountains with me and we had hurricane force winds and rain a day and a half when we got into Prince William sound. The only damage was to my hearing. The rain was hitting the hood on my jacket hard enough from the side to make my ears ring. No crisis, we just got good and wet.
  25. Did you miss the part about how she vetoed $500 million dollars in pork spending in Alaska alone, and fought like a scalded cat to expose and eliminate earmarks... Even those produced by Republican congresspersons from Alaska? That kind of no-holds-barred approach to governing is hugely attracting here at home and I suspect the rest of America will dig it too. (and the cash you save will fund a PILE of reps!)
