I find the Orange Monster does run a bit better if I give it encouraging smiles and nods. But I draw the line at coming right out and COMPLIMENTING it.

I picked up a '64 GMT Master in perfect restored condition 1 year ago for $2880. I could sell it for twice that today. I'm hot on the trail of what I think will turn into another good investment, but I plan to wear it as a daily piece, like all my others. Deals are out there but you have to be committed to find them. It takes a lot of legwork, research and knowledge. That's why RWG is here... so you can learn about watches. Funny thing, the delectable Ms. Nanuq says *I* should be committed because of all these watches...

@Freddy, what case is that on the left in your photo? Daaaaaaannnnggg!!!! This has actually been very informative for me, in a painful sort of way. I've got the serious hots for Doxa recently, and they use ETA movements too. But have no fear, as they are "assembled in Switzerland". The watch I've got in my sights will cost me more than the last Rolex 1675 I bought. Is there ANY way to justify that, knowing the ebauche is ETA? No. There, I said it. Will I buy it anyway? Yes. One simply cannot trust arguments like this when it comes to love and lust.

Thanks Jeff! I actually dumped my suspension bike for a Kona 29er for a couple reasons... The hardtail climbs like a goat and I can't ride lazy over obstacles anymore. Man studs are expensive for it, like $135 a pop. Then I use the Pugsley when the snow is more than 6 or 8" deep on the trails. Last winter I got into some axle deep powder and it was heaven. Have you seen Pete Basinger down your way with the GDR team? If you do tell him Bob says hi.

Boy I dunno about the warming effects... This was almost the coldest summer EVER here in Alaska. For sure there are dangers, 2 people were mauled by bears 1 mile from my home this summer. So we are careful when we go out. Today I only saw moose and hare tracks.

@Chino You just keep riding until your legs fall off. Seriously, I make sure my pack has nothing breakable in it, and if I get REALLY tired I stop and put the pack down next to a tree and sit on it and lean back in the sun and take a breather. I'm usually good for an hour of riding before I need to take a break... if it's really an epic ride then I'll stop several times and have some water and nuts at the midpoint. I have to make sure my midpoint happens before my water bottle freezes... no way am I putting it inside my pack! Sorry for the nasty blurry photos... my iPhone has got some goo on the lens and it's all blurry now.

Lordy, Lordy, Lordy... someone get me a chair before I fall down. Wonderful results. Some fine day you'll get that gilt dial mounted up and the watch reassembled, and you'll post a picture. All I can ask is, please preface that post with a warning. Make the letters about 3" tall and bright blinking red... so I have a reasonable chance of avoiding a heart attack. Thin cases rule!

WOW. That gilt dial is over the top gorgeous. You're building, in my opinion, the finest Frankie I've seen. Certainly there are others like the Snowflake and Oli's COMEX. But I'm a sucker for small, thin cases. I'm preparing a place for a 300T or 600T in my watch shelf and that will be nice. But I can never hope for a 6542. Spectacular.

It's terrifying to feel your sanctity is taken away, your safe place at home. Just remember your FAMILY is your "home" and nobody can take that home from you. Hang in there friend.

If you wind up needing some rare parts, don't forget Ziggy. My Gigandet is just back from the Spa and the pinion was broken on my center seconds wheel... v72c vintage. He had a source that got him the part. It was expensive but what are you gonna do? The watch HAS to be correct. He might be able to scrounge up some stuff if you need it. Another source would be Ron Rogers in the Joshua Green building, downtown Seattle. He has a nice supply of old stuff. Are you SURE you don't want to send me that watch now?
