  1. While i think these threads are funny (and contribute my own bit to the madness) i do agree with The Zigmeister - this guy needs to have his leash reigned in and his threads locked/deleted. Someone that might not pick up on the stupidity or the sarcasm may actually try to use these methods and damage an otherwise good watch.
  2. Trust me, I almost kept the thing when i opened it up to inspect it! I think you're mixing my post (and my father) up with crystalcranium's father I felt my Dad out a few months ago on the topic to see what he thought (while showing him my then new Breitling GT rep) and he had no problems with owning a rep. I picked the 5517 because he had owned one in the 60s that he bought from the ship's store when he was in the Navy for - get this - $100. He sold it to a friend thinking he would just buy another one at the ship's store and they stopped carrying them. He always regretted it and this was my chance to get him his 'Rolex' back.
  3. I didn't even notice what Hamster and Capt. Slow were wearing, I was too busy laughing through most of it. I rather like Clarkson - I wish we had a proper car show like this on here in the states, but alas we'll never get something that openly criticizes a car over here. Everything has to have kid gloves. So I'll just have to continue downloading it every week and burning it to disk to watch.
  4. I thought that looked like a PO, but i couldn't bear to pause it while the show was on to look - I was going through withdrawal waiting for the new season to start.
  5. i like to use tissues and rubber bands and instead of a hammer, i use c-clamps. I just grab the clamps i use to compress the pistons into my brake calipers when i put new brake pads on my car.
  6. Nice new sig pic Ubi
  7. I believe that model Daytona rep uses the standard Asian 7750 - It is the only daytona I would consider buying as I wouldn't want to deal with the highly modified 7750 in the seconds at 6 model.
  8. I'm in for one with deployant.
  9. My step mother threw a big party for my dad's 60th birthday last night and I have my dad the Sub 5517 from Josh - complete with Rolex box and papers I got off Ebay. Suffice today, everyone at the party was floored! The watch got passed around with everyone saying "I've never seen a real Rolex before! Look at that second hand sweep!" Everyone was fooled - albeit I'm sure none of them know watches well enough to know that it was a rep. I told my dad in private (immediate family knew already) and he couldn't care less - he absolutely loved it! I think I'm going to get one for myself actually, i had a few days with the watch before giving it to him and while I didn't actually wear it, I was very impressed with it. I only wish my camera wasn't MIA at the moment so I could have taken pictures.
  10. I got my LV Sub rep from Paul (wo-mart) - the "so called perfect" sub and the only problem I've had is I lost the pearl last week - fixed with an aftermarket insert. It has an ETA movement and after I adjusted it it keeps to +1sec a day. Very accurate and pretty close (CGs could use some work and the crown is a little too big) It also looks great on a NATO strap! (see sig)
  11. I wasn't in the lounge on my last business trip, but I noticed quite a few nice watches just waiting for my flight. Two subs, one Breitling, and two Omegas. Not one Panerai though.
  12. U.S. Marine Corps Rules 1. Be courteous to everyone, friendly to no one. 2. Decide to be aggressive ENOUGH, quickly ENOUGH. 3. Have a plan. 4. Have a back-up plan, because the first one probably won't work. 5. Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet. 6. Do not attend a gunfight with a handgun whose caliber does not start with a "4." 7. Anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice. Ammo is cheap. Life is expensive. 8. Move away from your attacker. Distance is your friend. (Lateral & diagonal preferred.) 9. Use cover or concealment as much as possible. 10. Flank your adversary when possible. Protect yours. 11. Always cheat; always win. The only unfair fight is the one you lose. 12. In ten years nobody will remember the details of caliber, distance, or tactics. They will only remember who lived. 13. If you are not shooting, you should be communicating your intention to shoot. Navy SEAL Rules: 1. Look very cool in sunglasses. 2. Kill every living thing within view. 3. Adjust speedo swim wear frequently. 4. Check hair in mirror. U.S. Army Ranger Rules: 1. Walk in 50 miles wearing 75 pound rucksack while starving. 2. Locate individuals requiring killing. 3. Request permission via radio from "Higher" to perform killing. 4. Curse bitterly when mission is aborted. 5. Walk out 50 miles wearing a 75 pound rucksack while starving. Air Force Rules: 1. Have a cocktail. 2. Adjust temperature on air-conditioner. 3. See what's on HBO. 4. Ask "what is a gunfight?" 5. Request more funding from Congress with a "killer" PowerPoint presentaion. 6. Wine & dine 'key' Congressmen, invite DOD & defense industry executives. 7. Receive funding, set up new command and assemble assets. 8. Declare the assets "strategic" and never deploy them operationally. 9. Hurry to make 1345 tee-time. U.S. Navy Rules: 1. Go to Sea. 2. Drink Coffee. 3. Watch porn. 4. Deploy the Marines
  13. I've heard they are great, a few members here have them. I've only just started my Panerai collection so I haven't gotten one yet.
  14. I'd say it's a little crazy AND stupid to pay that much for a strap.
  15. King has a couple of Heuer Monaco reps. http://www.cclv.net/TAG-015.htm http://www.cclv.net/TAG-013.htm That's about all i know of. I'd like to see some vintage Heuer reps as well.
  16. I"ve only had to call them once - when I ordered my LV Sub from Paul - Which ironically was the 2nd time I'd purchased from him and they still wanted me to confim the transaction. They asked if i knew him and said yes and then they gave me the warning about sending money blah blah.
  17. Doing some cleanup around the house today so I'm just wearing my Tag Heuer Link
  18. Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony!
  19. Mine's a rep, I got it from Eddie Lee in October.
  20. I didn't know there was a 'creamy' color dial? My GT is the white dial as well and i guess it's not "255,255,255" white, but it's white
  21. I actually just sent Pugwash a PM about this. I'm looking to go the DSLR route - kind of looking at the Canon Rebel XTi right now, but I'm open to other options too.
  22. Great pics! I can't wait to get a decent camera and a light box and start trying to take some pictures half as good.
  23. Thanks JJ but i just ended up ordering a new insert - but good to know about the peral at ofrei - i was browsing there and completely missed that on that page.
  24. I concur. I didn't come here initially looking for a Submariner as lots of newbies do, but I still spent about a week searching a reading up before beginning to post. Research is your friend. If you really want a good Sub and you're willing to spend a grand US for it, you might as well just wait and save a bit more to pick up a used genuine, they can be had for $1500-$2500 which is actually around what my gen Tags have cost me. If you want a really good rep but not perfect they are out there, just spend some time reading. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
