  1. What sort of work does he do?? Just basic modding? Or more extensive stuff, and movement servicing??
  2. That does look like it's 30s/40s era. The company is famous for it's 1960s Sherpa series of watches, which were great.
  3. I have some watches that need to be serviced... - a rep old style VC Overseas that has hands that now collide at certain times (I think), then stop - A2892 mov't - gen vintage Omega Seamaster that starts and stops - Omega 752 mov't - NOS Cyma Autorotor that starts and stops - Cyma 480 mov't I had a bad experience with watch servicing recently. I took the Cyma in... and it took months and months to get serviced, and I had already left the city. So I had to have a friend pick up the watch for me. Charged me $170 when I dropped it off, and it still has similar problems!! I'll post pics of the watch and the receipt tonight. I'm only a student, so that was a pretty bad burn financially for me. I don't want to take the watch back to that guy again. As I said, I'm in a different city right now. Also, I don't want him touching it. So I need a GOOD and reasonably priced watchmaker who I can send these too. I'd prefer within Canada so that my watches don't have to go through customs. But if it's not possible here, I'd send away to the USA. I also want some mods done to my Seiko Alpinist. I want a domed sapphire crystal installed (I'm prepared to order one), drilled lug holes (for 2mm springbars), and if it's possible (I'll need to do some research first), I want a movement transplant. Also, I'd want some dial work done. The dial text removed and my glossy applied markers turned matte. Any ideas???
  4. Are all Josh's vintage subs with that same good type of case as the 5512 (with the good bezel construction / lug hole placement)? If so, maybe I'll pick up a 1680 with the 2846... or a 5513 with the cleaner dial. I've been looking to get a good vintage sub for ages now.
  5. If it actually does have an Asian 2892, I would absolutely take that. I would ask for a movement pic and post it though first if you're not sure. It's a thinner movement, and usually used in higher end watches than 2824s are. I honestly don't think there's too much of a quality difference, but the handwinding of the A2892 is much nicer.
  6. What a beauty, any story behind this one?
  7. awesome.. getting a drsd has been my priority lately
  8. Starting on an experimental build right now... did some bezel bleaching. Took hours to get it even slightly bleached, but finally got it right, and it looks amazing. I'll post pics when it's together. I love that grey-blue colour!! Let's see yours.
  9. I don't mean to hijack the thread, but while we're on the subject of movements with cool features like the double barrel Lange rep, I wonder if there's a Chinese movement with a free-sprung balance...
  10. The whole project looks amazing! Where did you get the grey g10 nato??
  11. How did you decide on this movement, and how did you get the hands to fit? Looks cool!!!
  12. It's actually an in-house Favre Leuba movement (based on their manual wind 253), but during this era there was some sharing of a couple aspects of FL automatics (winding mechanisms, etc) that were shared with a joint production A.Schild based movement that FL, GP, Zodiac etc built on. One of the movements with that base was Zodiac's GMT 75B, which was used here in this project which I was thinking of: While it is a completely different movement than this FL 269, there was a bit of component sharing between these firms during this era, so I thought perhaps this too could fit Rolex mov't fitting hands (which after some consultation, I believe are on this 1675 build). But who knows. I thought maybe there were some modders here that need a little business and have a big stash of hands to test out on this thing. I also figured that being a no-date watch, things would be a bit more feasible.
  13. I have long collected interesting watch movements, and recently acquired a Favre Leuba 269 (little, extremely durable low beat auto movement) that I think would be perfect for an Explorer 1016. I think a couple of the mechanisms in it (at least the winding mechanism) are based on that joint GP-FL-JLC-Zodiac A.Schild based movement that people managed to fit the Rolex mov't hands to, and I was hoping to do the same. Is there anyone here who I can send my watch to, so I can pay to have it done by someone more professional at this than me? Anyone with advice, experience, etc.? If I sent it off, I guess it would have to be with all types of different hands to try out on the movement to see for sure which ones fit... or I'd send it to someone who has a whole big stash of hands to try. I was also thinking I should get a different 1016 for this. Thanks!!
  14. I'm really into movements, and managed to get myself a few particular ones that I've been after. I was wondering if there are any modders out there that do other mods, but specialize in movements. Maybe ones who have all different sizes of mercedes hands to test which ones will fit on the movement, etc. or maybe even be able to do some movement work, or install a low-beat ETA (provided by me) if the other movements don't work out. Thanks!!
  15. I'd love to hear how that movement transplant was done (how did you get the hands, dial, and date-wheel to fit???). I really want to do a transplant like this on a 1655 but have no idea how to deal with the issues like that.
  16. Is anyone selling ones with a pre-faded bezel? Also, who's selling the better COMEXes?
  17. I'm interested in getting a COMEX branded Rolex but had a couple questions. First of all, I have no idea whos is best to get, or whether I should get a SD one or a sub. But I was also wondering about the bezel inserts on these. I also see a lot of photos of these that make them look a blue-grey colour, sort of like a Tudor Snowflake (I love this), but I realize it is probably just people vintage-izing the insert. Which is it, and does it come like that, or is it people's own mods? Decisions decisions. Thanks!!!
  18. I really like the older 38mm VC Overseas watches with the numerals... but they seem to be out of production. I sent a message to timeshop since they have them listed on their site, but they say the don't have any. Any ideas? Thanks!
  19. Yeah, it looks like it... I was hoping there was already a seller who sells pre-modded ones.
  20. Hi everyone, I am looking for a VC Overseas, but the decent reps available seem to have something wrong with them... especially the dial or the one with the undersized logo. Is there anyone selling decent (even modded) ones? I also like the older 90s era of it too with the 12 numerals... but I'm not sure where to get the good version of it. If anyone has any tips, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!
