LHOOQ, I have a feeling you'd really like the Orient CER1P004D ... it is clearly Datejust based. Really nice.

New Tudor watches: Tudor Pelagos and Tudor Black Bay

I generally don't like the trend toward moving all watches past 40mm but that Black Bay looks fantastic. I wish it had the drilled out lug holes. -
What is the best aftermarket 1665 GWSD dial (and hands)?
watchguy51 posted a topic in The Rolex Area
I'm looking to do a final upgrade on my older MBW GWSD, and I was wondering what the best aftermarket dial and hands are. I can't tell the difference between the MBW hands and gen, but the dial has a couple quirks. I was thinking of going with an ingod dial, but I was wondering if there is any that is better. The hands would be for a 2836 so I'm not sure if a hand change is necessary or do-able. Thanks! -
I have this 1016 rep... I got it because it was the only one I could find with the proper sized coronet, and I had also seen a gen like it with the thicker numerals.

I generally dislike rectangular watches, but the 1931 re-issue Reverso really is a beauty

I'm looking for a good bezel insert w/pearl for my 1665, and I'm wondering what's the best non-gen one I can get. Thanks!

How'd you get that gold rotor? Looks great -
Maybe it's because I've just always been a movement guy, but I would say it's definitely worth it. Having an interesting movement is half the value of a watch in my books. The thing I like about the rep world is that you can get a watch with some nice parts (ETA mov't, cool casebacks, sapphire crystals, etc.) for cheaper than you would a gen. If you're already going to spend more money, best off having a nice high end movement rather than a plain, common ETA. The movement is the main reason I'd be willing to pay more money for a gen. Once you put one in a franken rep, you're pretty much at gen level. Not having to cut off dial feet on a gen dial is a major plus too. If you don't put in a gen movement, at least put in another interesting movement. I could list some if needed, and maybe someone has some insight as to which would fit in the case.

Yep. I guess the previous owner over bleached it, but I always really liked the faded grey-blue colour anyway. I put it on a navy blue canvas strap to match.

I was posting earlier in the week about my 1665 I had just bought. Anyway, I'm home now and got a chance to see it and take some pics today. I'll have to get the lug holes drilled out for sure, but if anyone has comments, or any input on other mods that would be worthwhile, let's hear em. Not sure what the story with the crown is, but to me it looks nice with the proper crimping on the inner side. The crown guards have nice shape to them too, and it looks like the caseback paint was already removed.

I have an old generation MBW 1665 great white SD (pics coming on the weekend), but I don't have the bracelet for it. Should I seek out a bracelet for it and some 585 end links? Or should I get a tropic strap and maybe a Rolex buckle? I have never handled a tropic strap before so I don't know anything about its longevity or quality. I have never seen one on a SD though, so I take it they were only ever really put on subs (I don't mind being the first though). I'm thinking a nato is out of the question, because the watch is already so thick. I wouldn't know where to get a decent bracelet for it though, if I went that route. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Differences between old and new MBW 1665s

thanks for this! I'll take good pics when it arrives, and I will have to find someone in the Toronto area to drill out the lug holes (hm, who I wonder) -
Differences between old and new MBW 1665s
watchguy51 replied to watchguy51's topic in The Rolex Area
Not sure if this can help me get any more info about my incoming MBW, but here is a photo and some video screenshots of it. If anyone can give me a general idea to the extent of the modding/parts that may be needed, that would be great. -
Differences between old and new MBW 1665s
watchguy51 replied to watchguy51's topic in The Rolex Area
Thanks for the reply, this is really helpful. Do you know which era MBW had the more accurate caseback? And did neither version have properly drilled lug holes for 2mm springbars? I also heard that the older ones had glued down dials with 'Singer' stamped in the back just like the gens. Do you happen to know if these are any better or have more of a texture? I'll have to post my own pics of the watch once it comes in. -
I have an MBW 1665 great white incoming, supposedly an older variation that better accepts gen parts. I was wondering if anyone knew all the differences between the old and new MBWs. Thanks!

I'm looking for good gilt dial sub, and it looks like Puretime sells them these days... but only with 21j movements. Is anyone selling them with a 2846?

Show us your watches with bleached bezel inserts
watchguy51 replied to watchguy51's topic in The Rolex Area
Mine was really stubborn... even after lightly sanding it, as most people do, nothing happened after an hour of sitting in 2 different brands of un-diluted bleach. It only worked when I heated up the bleach on the stove first. I think most people have to just leave it in diluted bleach for 20 minutes. -

Nice SD, any story behind this one? Where you got it, how it was done, etc
