  1. Thanks... It was an expensive build at just over 2 k, however, for me to find a gen in this condition I would have doubled my investment. Although, it heavily weighed on me every time the project stalled
  2. Tell you what P, if you run across an overlay that has the vintage fonts and will work with the 2893 let me know. I would be very interested in one since my current one is good quality but wrong font
  3. Well this great info and I pass it to the modder so these changes can be made.
  4. Its an eta overlay I found on ebay, it has no open 6 or 9 but some numbers have a vintage font as opposed to more modern and vice versa. I picked this over the silver one for the time being as the silver has too much sparkle and I figured it would look odd with the newer looking dial. I am very happy with the dwo and how it aligns, althougt the reason the date is riding low is the movement has shifted slightly lending to that effect. My next step is a custom movement holder ring and a true vintage overlay. If you have any leads on either that would be great. Thanks guys
  5. Ha ha, this is what happens when you send your 1675 to rolex for a dial service... They install the "swiss" service dial w luminova, its the latest of dial variants of a 1675
  6. It's been a long time coming and its almost there.... Its was a fascination I had since I was a young kid to own a watch rich in history, a watch that has a long history being one of Rolex's most popular sport models. The GMT Master with its unique Pepsi colored bezel insert is probably one of my favorite vintage pieces, or atleast on of the top 5. Being very interested in this watch I decided to do a little research and put together what I felt was a encyclopedia members could use to compare the variations of GMT's offered thru the years. Actually it was somthing that I wanted to use as a segue to a build that I had been working on for over a year or so, it quickly got out of hand as the information just hept stacking up and my build was nowhere near done. I would deffinately say this watch is a pain to build with great accuracy and reliability, there are many variables one would consider when creating this watch. It was my goal to build a version of the 1675 that would be accurate to a late 70's model and this is what I ended up with. Although not quite finished at the moment, its very close to being completed. I would like to thank PBdad for helping me with this build and his patience to see it thru. It was our vision to complete the build with the following parts and modifications. - Phongs 1675 case and caseback - Gen 116 Plexi - Gen Crown and Tube - Gen Service dial w/ luminova - Gen 7836 Folded Bracelet - Gen Pepsi Insert - Gen bezel assy - Gen ETA 2893-2 with pinion modification For anyone wanting to enjoy more pictures and history if this great watch just visit the sticky section at the top of the Rolex page and see parts 1 and 2. http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/149110-rolex-gmt-master-history-and-reference-pictoral-part-1/ http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/149112-rolex-gmt-master-history-and-reference-pictoral-part-2/ Thanks for looking guys... Pics anyone???
  7. Bingo, this is my exact setup except my ring is plastic and when installed it causes the dial to shift from the movement which creates alignment issues with the date ect. Mabye I should ask my modder to install a better movement ring, looks like yours worked out great. BTW, I did the pinion upgrade already to get more height for the hands. Have you had any issues with yours in the past??? I think my dial is held by dial dots and pressure from the movement tabs so im not sure if thats the best way. Thanks
  8. Hmmm, mabye I should take a look over there and see... And if it's a metal ring I could cut the area to fit the stem thru, like in the shape of a c but more closed. Thanks a lot bud for the heads up, this project has been a long road but so close now to being perfect now.
  9. Any ideas on where to source a movement adaptor ring to allow a 2893-2 to fit into a Phong 1675 caseset. Thanks eVo
  10. Sweet build dude, always liked the white dial on this one. M and I have been talking about doing a couple of GMT's, one the Sultan on Oman with the All blue insert and a Pan AM 6542. I think you may have swayed me towards the Pan AM Thanks for sharing...
  11. Hope he delivers by Xmas, if not I may cancel my LV order and go another route. Fingers crossed, and good luck with your parts search and that v3 bracelet is awsome.
  12. I see M has worked his magic once again, what an awsome watch dude. And take the advise of Freddy and By-Tor and mount that on a bracelet soon, I think you will find the brecelets of this time period are very comfortable. Btw, does the lume color differ on the hr vs min hand as its hard to tell from some of the pics. Enjoy a great watch bud.
  13. I must say I like how this connects the endlink to the bracelet, my gen 7836 tabs are not in the best shape and could stand a replacement. And since they are bent they have less presence and are not as noticeable as the one you've modded in your pics above. See here Nice mod, makes all the difference if you know what youre looking at. Thanks for sharing that
  14. I would be in to buy a few of these as long as the print quality is good. I've got some silver and white dwos from mansion house and cubic works. Some have open 6 and 9, but no flat top threes. The 7's are wrong for anything with closed 6 and 9, although the quality is very good. These are to be used with eta based movements, not sure how they fit on others. Gonna have them test fitted for alignment and will report back with a qc update.
  15. Looks great dude, perfect amount of vintage aspect going on here. And I totally agree on the aging process now days, just carried out too far in some builds.
  16. Great build, I plan to build a nice 6542 one day and have started to collect the parts needed to make that happen. I bet the new bracelet looks great, please post up some nice pics once you have time as im looking to into aftermarket options unless a nice gen comes along for the right price. Enjoy it, thats one heck of a GMT.. And on the back story, unless Rolex comes out and says this is a hoax I will hold out faith that these are real. Besides, im sure the execs were guilty of partying with strippers/hookers and such who in turn stole all of the watches and handed them out to the bums somewhere near sunset strip or what ever the drive was hear PA headquarters Im sure there are a pile of these Albino GMT's washing around on the ocean floor just waiting to be discovered.
  17. They are from David w/ JT in AZ, picked up several from him complete at $100 per set C and T w all gaskets. Only thing is tell him up front to send you the best ones and inquire that the picture is what you get and if they arnt as listed can they be returned. Hope this helps
  18. I've fitted the 2893-2 to drive my 1675 with the proper movement spacer and there were no fitment issues at all.
  19. I guess you could call it a tc, but its wm9 (so same thing really) Krp- Im using a Nikon to shoot these pics, other than taking pics of watches i really don't have a clue. Just get an angle that looks cool and shoot. The macro is pretty easy as its a manual focus and you can really dial it in. Mabye soon I will build a photo box and get a tripod with timing device. Hard to keep a steady hand when getting a good angle
  20. No Rh YM e or reason.... A day in the sun pictoral.... Theres not too much to say about this one as it needs no introduction. Just a camera, a YM and the right amount of sun Lets enjoy this saturday afternoon with a bit of sparkle. Enjoy.... Hope you enjoyed the pics...
  21. He is a god in the rolex forum... Has one hell of a collection of watches, tools, books, vintage parts and pretty much anything watch related thats bad ass and all us puny mortals only loathe to have.
  22. If you do the math this gen midcase is only $300 more than say a Phong midcase. Sure its not a big difference but at the same time you will have to aquire the crystal retainer ring with washer, caseback and the bezel assy which in gen form can add up pretty quick. All in all for that special build it seems like a fair deal, to me its not worth it since the Phong case is pretty convincing.
  23. Thanks guys, enjoyed putting this together for everyone... Working on part 3, however, busy with work and still collecting data from 16750 to Modern Ceramic GMT's .
  24. Thanks bud, thats gonna be part 3. Just not sure when I will be able to post up
