  1. What material, printer and images, or image size output should I be looking at? Who has done it successfully before? E
  2. I have a 1665 I bought from Trevor a month ago. I took the whole thing apart after receiving it, just to make sure that everything was up to part. Love the 2836-2 movement in it. The HEV is definitely just like the gen one(from the information I have seen, read and pictures on the web) The o-ring was dry, so I lubed it and ensured that the spring/tensioner was bent correctly and tight. The crystal was just pressure fitted and had no gasket or o-ring. I GS glued it to the case, then ensured that the locking ring fit tight. The crown tubes were greased properly, as well as the case-back. Thus far, I can shower with it, wash the car, brush it after re-polishing the case and no issues with water seepage. I froze the watch in a 24oz beer flute filled with water. No damage. I won't take it surfing, but I would love to spearfish with it before summer ends to see how it holds. I have not changed the crystal on it yet, as this one seems very close to the gen article and looks good. Just my input and observation. E
  3. What Teejay said. You can even swap the bracelet for a NATO on here plus cash depending on the bracelet you end up with. E
  4. Awesome image Ronin. Common sense is always a good rule of thumb as well. Don't use your rep for surfing either. E
  5. Well, technically, the ones I have used are DG2813 based, use the DG2813 stem and hands, and have the DG2813 dial feet arrangement. This is why I cannot call them anything but a dg2836. The 2836-2 I have for the 1665 is an ETA asian clone. That I know. Used ETA stems, ETA hands and has ETA dial feet arrangement. Hence the Asian ETA. Ofrei has a really good deal on 2813s. Take advantage of it. E
  6. Thanks for the replies. I'll give the image replication a try. E
  7. Where doe sone source open 6 and 9 datewheels or overlays for ETA and DG movements? I would like to start modifying the 2783 movement for a better look and feel. Thanks. E
  8. Ok, on a lighter note, do you have any trashed dials in the 26.5mm-27mm range you care to "dispose of" cheaply? E
  9. The Comex dial in the first set of pictures looks to be the right size for the case, as you can see the t<25 markings on the bottom at 6 o'clock. I have encountered a slew of great looking dials in the 29mm mark. Too big for the case I have for this project. E
  10. I like the "yellowed" dial, though may not be correct. Gives it that aged GW look. E
  11. Ergo, you can put an ETA into an original A21j case. The 2836 and 4813 are both DG movements, and use the DG hands. I have used both with great results. Recently I purchased an Asian 2836-2 and it rocks. A little loud for ticking, but it's smooth and can handle me running with a pit bull and playing rough with it. The pit bull that is. E
  12. Where can one get the correct date wheel for this comex 1665? It would be for an Asian eta 28336-2. E
  13. I would love to find a way to modify a thicker bezel to look and feel more like the 5514 one. E
  14. I say, put another Gen (preferably new) Plexi on her and keep riding her hard. E
  15. I have a question on the 1665 particularly the HEV and the correct bracelet. Where does one get the correct o-ring for the HEV? and what bracelet/crown did come originally on the 1665? I have a 1665 from trevor that I am mod'ding and I like the riveted bracelet, though it may not be correct. What other options are there? BTW I silicone greased the HEV and bent the securing tab on the case and greased everything else in the case as well as GSing the crystal, so far 40psi under 24" of water and no leaks. E
  16. i hate to revive old posts(no I don't) been looking to get the GWSD finished and I think the t19 just looks right on the case. Great looking watch for sure. E
  17. @Panerai, Do not throw in the towel yet. You can sell some of the parts and hold onto the ones you know you NEED to use for your project. Of sell everything and start from scratch with the newly acquired knowledge. E
  18. The 4813 from Ofrei is the one with the shorter canon. There are 4813 that have the same movement height as the 2813. I have tried all of the variations. So far I'm liking the 2838 and 2836 dateless ones. There is always the Asian 2836-2 version. Seems smooth but have found a few issues with skipping and locking when playing tennis. E
  19. How is the Cartel case otherwise? Did you get the whole head or just the case? E
  20. The crown can have the clutch tube replaced, but you have to reheat it and have a donor crown with a good clutch and tube ready. Takes time and effort. Cheaper to buy a gen crown with a good working clutch and a gen tube that fits it. E
  21. The trevor case takes the 26-27mm dials. E
  22. Thanks a bunch for the pics. I have a 5514 case on the way and I think it will get the "pre-comex" treatment. Will do something similar to this you have though to have it be functional as a daily wearer. E
