  1. Thanks all. Swelling has gone down today and looks like the broken areas are less than we thought yesterday - the gum was very swollen and one of the teeth remains was hardly visible. Today a bit more is evident. He's doing well and our nerves a bit better. He's had a few incidents poor lad - broken nose from a horse throwing him 3 years ago, and worst 5 years ago he ended up with 2nd degree chemical burns on his legs due to wrongly applied treatment by a nurse. Luckily he survived and recovered from both those, but it's like we're hyper sensitive to anything happenign to him. Thanks for the kind words. We'll see what the news is tomorrow... Thanks all...
  2. Thanks Andy.... Much appreciated...
  3. Just venting here as I need to get this out of my system.... My 12 year old son had an accident last night. OK not major life threatening....but as a parent I'm sure you'll all understand... He'd gone with a friend and their parents for stay over in a village 40 mins away on the coast. Wife and I and daughter had dinner and settled down to watch a film together. At 10.15 pm he calls us to say goodnight. Everyone in great spirits...just a cool Saturday night right? 15 mins later the friends mother calls to say our son has fallen off his skate and broken both front teeth and badly hurt his lip. (seems the road had bumps he didn't see and the wheel locked in something and threw him). She rushed him to us and we headed straight up to Barcelona to the main kids hospital. The lip is messed up right where you can see on the top surface - no idea how it'll heal they said. The 2 front teeth are messed too...one broken very close to the gum. The other half way. We have some of the bits....only some... We got home 2am (and I think I got a speeding fine in the process as I saw a speeding camera flash as I passed, distracted on the way back from the hospital). Tomorrow we head to the best dental reconstructist there is in the city (if we can get an appointment). Meanwhile my son (now over the shock) is trying to be brave and lift our spirits. We're keeping brave faces and joking and stuff, but inside I feel sick. He had such fantastic teeth - perfect - and he's only 12..really handsome lad and fantastic nature.... Like I say; nothing life threatening so compared to many it's a minor thing. I know to put stuff in perspective, but it's my son..... He's always having things happen, and I wonder - if there is a higher being or guardian angels - what the f**k are they playing at? He doesn't deserve the track record of incidents he's had (no need to get into it all here but for one so young he's been through the mill) Maybe a bit heavy there - I need to vent. Anyway - wish us luck that he can be fixed up OK and that this is over as soona s possible with a positive result. Thanks all..

    Hair loss

Interesting one this.... I started developing a bald patch at the back some years ago, coupled with general thinning and receding temples. I put it down to genetics and change of climate as I moved to a much hotter country (still here). I consulted some people and places. Hair transplants are very problematic. If you're lucky and don't get the barbie doll look, you still have the risk that hair loss continues so the transplant is left looking isolated. There's a guy in our village who did a transplant for his temples. The loss continued, and he has 2 little islands of hair at the front that look silly. And yes; he was doing sumplementary treatments theoretically to stop further loss. General conscensus seems that one of the scalp treatments can slow the loss process down. But can't stop it. And once lost, the hair won't grow back, so products claiming re-generation seem false. Friend of ours is a professional image stylist, and she has told me numerous times that the reality is there is still no real cure or really effective preventative action product. It's all genetic. You may be able to slow the process if you find the right product for you. But then that means continued use for prolonged period, and a failrly high cost. Her advice and what I had to resign to; cut short, and think Sean Connery.......
  6. 3 watches with A7750 high beats. 2 Hublots (V1's) and a PAM sub. Of the 3, 2 have had problems. Basically crono hands slipping so not resetting properly, plus a power reserve issue. In one case the movement had to be scrapped off and replaced, and the replacement A7750 high beat also has suffered slipping crono hands. This may be more to do with the models in question - a modder has advised me that the HBB's have really poor quality hands tubes for the stems, making them unreliable. That said the stems and tubes on A7750 AP's is of very good quality. Just the secs at 12 mod is delicate and needs a thorough going over.....
  7. Gen crystal is not absolutely flat. It is slightly domed. I see the bracelet here has screws not pins. Like I said; hard to find now.... Also rep bracelets are slightly thinner than the gen. Not much so you would notice easily, but a fraction thinner. Clasp looks laser etched rather than engraved. Gen is engraved. Gen has single AR on the inside. Transparent - no tint at all. I have a gen black face on speedy strap, and had a gen blue Bond some time back. Mary is pretty trustworthy, and the best old school factory stopped making the most accurate ones years ago. they occasionally come up used in for sale sections. Depending on what she's asking for this, it looks overall pretty good.On par for what's available from the factories today, except it has the benefit of the off set HE valve ie above 10. (at least from the pics).
  8. Interesting..... What to look for in general (ie what would be best): * HE valve slightly above 10 (towards 11) - this one seems to have that so good * Well defined (squared cut crown guards) - this one seems to have that - difficult from the angle of the pics... * crisp waves and print on the dial - can't tell how good from the pics. Needs to be angled in light to see * hands length - I think those hands are a shade short, but swapping for gen hands is not expensive (though you'd need to relume the dial or swap a gen dial for lume balance) * bezel insert colour - gen is a darker blue. This one looks slightly too light, but is on par for reps. * pearl - should be flush in the insert. The pics show the metal ring slightly above the insert. The shape and form of the pearl looks OK. But it's not centred in the triangle and looks slightly off set to the left. Could be the angle of the pics. I'd say, if not offset, it's acceptable. Just needs pushed down flush. Probably moddable. * gen bracelet has pins for sizing links. Most reps have screws. So if this has pins (can't see from pics) that's a bonus. Not easy to get bracelets with pins - I think the factories only make with screws now.... * datewindow and date font - you have the white box border(correct) and what looks like the right date font. Overall looks pretty good. I'm sure By-Tor or other Omega experts will be able to better correct my comments......
  9. I bought one from Offshore when he opened up, and it's the dog's B's...
  10. @ThinkBachs. I'd read from Lani I think how to remove the insert. Pry off pearl with thumbnail - it literally popped right off with little effort and no damage. Heat the bezel with a hairdryer. Takes a few minutes and you end up with a very hot metal watch in your hands... Insert a bent paperclip in the pearl hole, and prise/level up enough to insert a very fine screwdriver behind (0,8mm blade). From there (and you need 3 hands) - hold the watch, keep heating with the hairdryer, and shimmy the screwdriver around the bezel underneath the insert. Very gently. Comes off easily....no damage.... RE Pearl in Cousins. I've had a look round their site but have problems as it is reference number orientated. Anyone have the correct reference number for the pearl that would go better than the rep one? Thanx
  11. Thanks gents. The 2 pearls I have are both blue lume. One slight green/blue in daylight. The other white. i'm still debating on changing back to the green/blue one as the white is too bright compared to hour markers, and the other one glows better (better match to dial and hands). I'm debating over sanding more. It's really, really tedious. 2 hours to get where I was. However I may leave it a bit and come back. What I have noticed that's bugging is that the replacement insert 8sanded) is a hair thinner on outer dia. than the other one, leaving a fraction gap to the bezel inner edge. Most visible around 50, though I'm debating whether it's actually the bezel that isn't machined 100% on the inner edge side.... Yes - anal...... But it's bugging me.....
  12. Well......2 hours of sanding on medium grade metal sandpaper.....circular motions, crossing, figure of 8's. Jeez this insert is hard..... Managed to trim a little off so it no longer sits above the bezel edge and crystal. Infact it's flush. The insert that came fitted (wrong 10) has a simple tapered inner form. The correct 10 insert has a flat band on the outer edge. The metal bezel has a stepped channel around the outer edge, then a rising taper towards the crystal...so all different! Anyway... As the watch came (note crystal is about 0,6-0,7mm above the bezel insert, insert slightly recessed against bezel edge, and note the pearl colour and wrong curved top of triangle - gen seems to be straight????)... Now crappy phone camera pics from today after last night's adventures.... Like I say; it's sitting flush.... So....opinions? Should I go back to the wrong 10 insert? Keep sanding? (is the gen flush or the crystal higher and the insert slightly recessed in the metal bezel)? Change the pearl? The one on the watch now is much whiter. The one on the wrong 10 insert has slight green/blue tints... Would be great to get people's opinions. Leave alone as is, or do something else???? Thanx all..
  13. Oohhh kaaayyyyy..... Nipped out to buy a small metal file. All i could find was 14cm in triangular, which I think may serve. Plus some 1.5 grade (medium coarseness) metal sandpaper. So later I'll be having at it as were.....we'll see. Still not sure how to balance pressure and ensure it's flat. How about the pearl re. original thread? The gen has pure white or milky white with touch of blue/green? Gen pics I've found show both !!
  14. V. nice. DSN per chance? Or someone else, coz that case looks similar to the old factory famed cases (meaning higher and clearer 2 step bezel profile). A7750? Ah - I miss my PAM250. Got stolen by an AR merchant........
  15. Hmmm. The insert is ceramic, not metal. Hence people have said they've hand sanded. I'm just looking for more info - type of paper, better explanation of method (how to keep even pressure) etc.
  16. I like the shark pic........which toe did he get... Seriously - I'd read people saying they'd managed to sand by hand. Don't have a dremmel. And what do you use to hold the insert meanwhile? Damnation; I hadn't counted on this being so complicated........
  17. Hi All. Few months ago I bought a DSSD from Mary, along with the correct 10 spacing bezel insert. At the time she didn't offer the watch with the insert fitted. Now she does...grrrr.... So finally yesterday I got enough courage to start trying the swap. I am NOT A MODDER....at all.....someone once praised my McGuiver handiwork over PAM crownguard hot glue fixes, employing also tissue paper and a hammer.....nuff said! Read threads about this (inc. the Gio and Lani ones). There only seems to be 2 after searching several times the forum. Got the pearl off easily with just my thumbnail!!! If it had been accidentally bumped sideways I'd have lost it...one to watch... Hairdryer softened the glue, and I managed to prise off the insert. In the process found it was already cracked at 1 through the hour marker. No chips hence it was never spotted, but it's completed cracked through... Cleaned off the old glue. And set about the correct 10 insert. (1) sanding - jeez. I only have basic sandpaper in the house, and was at it for a few minutes as a test. Nothing. Zero. Not even a little powder. (2) pearl - the wrong 10 bezel had a pearl that glowed better, but in daylight is a blue green colour. The correct 10 bezel pearl in daylight is white, but lume is dismal. So - what help do I need here??? How do you sand this bugger? It needs maybe 0.5mm - 0.75mm reducing in height. What can be used, as the paper I have did nothing? Any tips on sanding to get an even flat base so it will sit correctly and not low on one side? On the table, holding the insert in just fingers it's very hard to get any even pressure around the insert. So a risk it'll not be sanded flat... Also the pearl - is the blue green one correct to gen? (yes I know - where are the pics....maybe when I get home tonight). Have people used the white one with poor lume? Thanks all in advance for any help this novice, cack-handed, would be modder, can receive.....
  18. I'd be up for one again depending on price. I have a 44mm one from Blackbard (works v.well). I'm missing 47mm and 45mm for my RAD.
  19. Being a Scot myself it's great to see pics of the homeland. I think you had a good time - hope you enjoyed our wee country... The black and whites with touch of colour are superb. How do you do that???? Ahh - I can smell the heather and whisky.....did you try haggis?
  20. If you want another one just to be on rubber, why not just buy the strap and a spring bar tool??? If it's a UPO it'll accept a gen strap. Alternatively get the best rubber starp version that fits the UPO. Unless you want a different dial and bezel colour combination UPO that is....
  21. Class isn't he..... That's a superb thread giving great information and insight.....congrats!
  22. I read that where the dealers update the watch with the corrct bezel insert, they remove the bezel, disassemble, and machine the inner edge of the bezel where the insert sits. Where others have modded to fit the corrected insert, they've simply removed the insert, sanded down the correct one, and re-glued. For fixing the gap you have, means removing the bezel assembly and seeing what's wrong. From there if a fix is possible. So...............any bezel experts out there that can comment for fixing this?
  23. Thanks guys. We'll call it gen ETA for the benefit of the doubt.
  24. Looking to make sure this movement is a Swiss ETA 2824-2. Anything here says otherwise??? Thanx all....
  25. Hi Ubi. Good question. Seems to have been on dealer sites (at least Angus) since last year..... Anyone know anything?
