  1. Some time ago I spotted the Joerg Hysek Abyss Explorer. Like both the RG and steel versions. However just wondered if anyone has bought one, and what the feelings are - both the quality in it's own right, and how it compares to the gen. I can't find any reviews here..... Thanx all
  2. Well. First thing I did with mine is clean it up. Case - used simple metal cleaner (the cotton ball already impregnated type for silver polishing). lite rub over and good clean after with a cotton cloth. For the bracelet I removed, did the same with the silver polish. Then soaked it in oil. left for impregnation. then cleaned off and finally rubbed over with a cotton cloth. Now the case and bracelet don't make noises, and feel much more 'silky'. Was amazing how black the silver polish balls became, indicating the metal as received was pretty dirty....
  3. For the bezel no you can't remove and glue. And the DSSD bezel seems a bugger to get off. I've tried and can't do it... I think the Doc was talking about the insert only. That does look to be too big a gap. Sorry - I'm not a modder so can't offer advice on what can be done.
  4. It's a very close call.... On mine the K of 'LOCK' is at 6 exactly, and the O and E on the top words nearly centred with the 10 and 2 markers. My concern was always that the 6 hour bar looked crooked. But when I put a line on the pic it seems to be an optical illusion. What I've also read is that the centering of Gens can vary. I think yours looks pretty good, and would try not to worry too much....
  5. Cheers gents. So a poor PAM00093 it is..... The blue dial is not textured. But has a metalic effect - not concentric circles or anything. But not flat or matte. The cyclops is on the inside (is that normal). And I agree - looks like a chinese 21J movement...when you pull the crown it's uber wobbly. The Ti case - now the look and feel isn't steel, but the weight says steel to me..... I'll be nice to him and tell him to enjoy it as, but not bother any mods. Was the PAm 00093 ever repped? I don't recall having seen one.
  6. To all PAM experts. A freind of mine came back from Turkey recently where he'd bought 2 reps. One an IWC Cousteau, the other a PAM. The Cousteau is not brilliant..... Both cost him some
  7. Given that the case is angled - wider at the bottom than at the top with the bezel - this may account for the differences in claims over diameter of 43mm or 44mm. Will depend where you measure it . where across the top, and at what height on the case side. Now - who is this dealer then????
  8. To add... UPO has 22mm lugs I understood other 45.5mm PO's can have 22mm OR 20mm lugs......not just the 42.5 PO has 20mm lugs. Meaning som 45.5 Planet Ocean fakes (which are not the UPO's) have mistakenly 20mm lugs......
  9. I bought one of these drivers from offshore, plus threadlock. Works fine.....recommended, and a far better price than the silly ones some dealers ask for...
  10. All right - how can we get to be your friends and place an order.......... Stunning; simply stunning......... Welcome
  11. Hi and many thanks... I think I'll give the Mac Gyver touches a miss in the future - lesson learned. I really need to get a bracelet pin tool.....
  12. I'm not a modder............ I have a 44mm caseback tool gathering dust, as I've only ever used it twice - once to see my 196 movement (ooooo..nice) and once to regulate my 113 via a toothpick and Ziggy's instructions (left a bit, steady, right a bit.....now poke gently.....) BUT.........the other week I got brave and had a go at the hot glue crown guard floppy lever fix. My Fiddy and my 196 were the chosen victims. The 113 escaped as I couldn't get the bloody pin out. Dismantling - no probs. Losing bits - not at all - everything was put safe and found for re-assembly.... Glue application - fiddly to say the least, but finally managed. Re-assembly - and HERE is where I need some help..... Both are re-assembled and miles better than before ie not floppy (especially the Fiddy). BUT ... Fiddy crownguard top face has been left with a couple of light scratches from pushing the lever pin back in (I confess - don't laugh - I used a hammer and toilet paper to protect, which more or less did the job) 196 pin lever didn't want to go in all the way, and is currently sitting just under 0.5mm above the crown guard. So - what can I use to get rid of the scratches on the fiddy guard, and what can I use to push the 196 pin home finally? I have NO watch tools bar Offshores famed screwdriver set. So only household and basic DIY implements.... I can't find anything for driving the 196 pin home that won't leave some form of indent (ie small screwdriver and tapping with a hammer again) Any suggestions all? And remember - I'm kack handed......
  13. Hi and 'welcome'... The thing about the A7750 is that it needs to be serviced and regulated. Once done it should be a good workhorse. The A7750 is not a movement that all watchsmiths are familiar with, and can be a little tricky to work on. So you need to locate someone that has good experience with these and can service and regulate for you. In EU Domi / Francisco are amongst the modders who know it well. In Canada Ziggy of course. US Rex I think. Outside of these there are probably more people. For Australia not sure who does what there.....
  14. Hi For you what are the signs that it's not a UPO? Dial has cwon feet logo Case has a serial number in one corner Bracelet end links have 951 inscribed Hands look right length (second hand fractionally short compared to gen, but UPO's have that) HE valve at '51/52' compared to bezel numbers - so just above 10 as per gen. What's telling you it's not a UPO?
  15. Looks like UPO. Omega logo has the clwon feet (wrong to gen but not a huge issue, and all UPO's have this). HE valve looks right. Hands length look right for UPO. Ask to check if strap band is 22mm width at lugs, tapering to 20mm at clasp. Also get a pic of the clasp for the engraving. Only issue I see here is pearl position - it's a fraction too low in the triangle. it's touching the silver band of the insert, whereas the gen sits just above the band. I'm not sure if all UPO's are like this, or whether she can find one with a better pearl position. If she's already sent it, then I'd say it's a UPO and a nice one, so enjoy.... One thing - I suggest you remove and re-glue the bezel insert. Typically the factories use a crappy water based glue, so if it gets wet it'll drop off. Carefully remove it and re-fix with a better glue. There are threads on this so do a little searching here about it.....
  16. I'd also heard other 45mm PO's had the wrong bracelet size. The gen and 'U'PO are 22mm at the lugs. Some other PO's have been 20mm at lugs. BTW - I find the 42mm is too small. the 45mm for me doens't feel unbalanced. The 42 is a shade bigger than the 300m Seamaster (Bond type or black face) which is 41.5mm. Today not a big size. So long as your wrist is minimum 55mm 'wide (across the top) the 45mm PO will be OK. In the end the size point is a matter of taste.....as it were....
  17. There's a Sinn U1000 PVD for sale here in RWG as we speak. Looks a good price....... Have it re-lumed and you're away.
  18. Agree - option 2. And I'd be down for a couple..
  19. Having now acquired an Ultimate DSSD with all blue lume, I'm debating having it re-lumed (dial, hands and pearl and at the same time change the bezel insert for the correct 10 one). Out the box the lume IS BLUE, but for me is not so strong. or intense, even taking into account the difference in colour base compared to say C3. It's a 'gentle' blue glow, that also fades relatively quickly (compared again to say Tritec Superluminova C3). Has anyone had their DSSD re-lumed? If so what's your thoughts over the results achieved - notable difference in intensity / length of glow? Any before and after pics? Having done it, you happy with the result and recommend the mod? Thanks in advance for comments.....
  20. In the Rolex section I posted a thread this week over my Ultimate 316F from Mary in Watch International....have aq look. I'm not a huge Rolex guy either, and compare a bit to my 45.5mm PO
  21. For a while I've been debating over buying a DSSD. With all the versions evolution, flaws and debates, I was hesitant. However with the Ultimate 316F and Laniki's review, I became decided. This is my first Rolex, never having been a huge fan. I always felt the Sea Dwellers and Submariners were a shade too small, and I was never really attracted to the rest of the models. But the DSSD kept comming back on me.....so after much deliberation I decided to go for it. I chose Watch International (Mary). I'd never bought from her before, but had had some communications and enquiries and had always been very impressed with her communication and style. After having located a watch, we debated over the pics, and Mary herself decided to locate another one since the crystal on the first was a shade too high. Her own initiative it must be said. Watch and correct 10 bezel were posted on 25/3. They arrived here in EU yesterday via EMS, so good shipping time of 2 weeks. So what do I think? Upon unwrapping (the packaging used was excellent - flawless) I have to say it's a nice piece. There have been so many reviews that I'll try not to repeat. Rather, I'll give my views from a non Rolex person. I compare to the 45.5mm PO - my gen. The DSSD wears surprisingly well. Yes it's much thicker (I think 3mm); I was worried it would look stupidly high on the wrist, but from most positions it sits well. The bracelet taper is typical Rolex and much more than the PO. PO goes from 22 to 20mm. The DSSD goes from 20 to 18mm, but you notice it. Whilst meaning it looks slimmer, it does mean the watch fits well around the wrist bone (or at least mine that sticks out...). However the case size is good with enough presence without being a big flat hockey puck. In the respect it's on par or slightly better than the 45.5mm PO. It would look much bigger than the 42mm PO. Styling in the flesh is very nice. The glossy ceramic bezel and gloss/semi gloss dial, with the hour marker rings and silvered hands, pick out light. They sparkle and shine, attracting the eye. Build quality is very good. No marks. Watch head feels solid, though not as heavy as the PO. The bracelet being typical Rolex feels flimsy compared to Omega bracelets (the PO or the Seamaster). I think the rep bracelet is said as being pretty good compared to the gen. It's more to do with the dimensions and thicknesses of the parts, all being on a smaller and thinner scale compared to Omegas (rep or gen). Bracelt uses screws for the links so adjusting is simplicity itself, and the glidelock works excellently (hope it doesn't break as per some reports - again rep and gen). The 316F steel has a very evident colour and sheen difference. I haven't cleaned or oiled the bracelet yet, but the difference is notable compared to the Omegas or my (suposedly) 316L PAM cases and bracelet. The DSSD in 316F simply has a different colour and almost texture. Engravings are all good - the rehaut in particular is very hard to see normally. It's there though. Lume all blue, though I'd hoped it would be more intense. But it is blue and even throughout. In terms of the transaction with Mary - she was simply a star. Good communications throughout, and very very patient. I'll be going back to her for something else, so for now I'm very happy indeed. As said the packaging was flawless..... Pics? Well I'm no photographer and this watch has been photographed to death....but anyway. Pics here are a mix of what Mary sent me as my watch, plus a couple of quick Nokia camera phone wristies from the desk..... Movement is meant to be Swiss 2836-2. I'm no expert here so can't be sure it's not a clone. I hope not...... That's it - small review. Any PO wearers considering the DSSD I'd say go for it. Thanks for reading....
  22. If ever there was a Fiddy expert, it's Mr Babola here....... Hope we'll be seeing more of you again.....
  23. For me just looks like there's dirt in the lettering (E, G and T especially). Wooden toothpick and scrape it out should do the trick, and will avoid scratches. Position, depth etc I'll leave to the experts..... Otherwise nice looking piece.
  24. Great to see you back around here Babola......long time.....
